We came back to visit Guadalajara, and made a stop here again. We came last year and could not wait to come back. My family of 4 was satisfied with a regular size tomate special, and a small arrachera plate that comes with tortillas. Not like this place needs more people, there's always a wait and a line around the corner. It's Loud but really fun. Everyone was very attentive. A must stop.
La Tomate is a very highly rated taqueria on average sites so we went to check it out. Tip 1: Use parking garage / lot as there is no parking. If you do the parking garage / lot, you just back into your space Tip 2: Get here early if possible. It fills up quickly. Tip 3: If you're not a fan of Latin Hop Hop, Trip, or Reggaeton, then decide to go elsewhere as they have two very large TVs blasting the music videos non-stop. Tip 4: if you're a vegetarian, you're kinda in luck - sorta of. Be aware. They do have a vegetarian dish but it's cooked on a shared contact flat grill with all the meats. La Tomate lets you choose your dish. It could be tacos al pastor or a plate of mixed meats with cheese. The prices are affordable especially for Guadalajara. I don't get the cheese. It should be on the side but all of their mixed meats have cheese on top. The salsas are Facking good. Everyone single one. The homemade tortillas are legit. The lady that is slinging them in her station is a superhero The guacamole is also tremendous. I love that everyone is in uniform and shirts are tucked in and professional looking. The service was very attentive. Thank you Marco So, would I go back ??? Yes, but I would just order guacamole and a ton of tortillas and make guacamole and salsa tacos and I would request to sit away from the TVs.
This is one of my cousin's favorite restaurants and I can see why. This place is super popular. The staff was friendly. The food was delicious. They are known for their al pastor tacos. We liked the steak ones. The drinks were great and the tortillas are handmade. All the salsas they served were very good. It's a very loud and upbeat place. They did have a huge line but they worked very quickly to accommodate a us. The neighbor is very happening.

Los tacos salieron calientitos, jugosos y con ese toque que te hace cerrar los ojos y decir "ay, santísima... qué rico." La salsa... uff. Nomás tantito me la puse y sentí el golpecito exacto que necesitaba. Nada exagerado, pero suficiente para hacerme sudar tantito. El trompo estaba girando como si me estuviera coqueteando, y pues... caí. Y volvería a caer. El servicio también estuvo de lujo: atentos, rápidos y con una actitud que casi casi me hizo pedir "otra ronda... pero más intensa." Si buscas un lugar que te deje lleno, feliz y con ganas de regresar al día siguiente... aquí es.
Locals recommended this spot for dinner, and when we arrived, there was a huge line. We decided to wait and it was worth it! Great ambiance, the food was very good ,the meat was delicious, the drinks were a great bonus and the service was very friendly.
Fast service and great customer service. Emmanuel took good care of us as a party of 14. Food was delicious and came in at a good time. Lively atmosphere. Would recommend and come again :)
Wow! This place has one of best tacos I've had, maybe it was after a night of drinking but by far great taste. It's located in a busy hip area in Chapultepec in Jalisco. We came to try it out since I had heard the tacos al pastor were great and full of flavor. The place was very busy but the waiters/ waitress were very quick to take our order and actually suggested several options for us. We went with the tomate special which includes pastor asado,bacon, pineapple, bell peppers, onions, avocado, and cheese, we went for the large one which is enough for two 21.49 and two lemonades for $ 2.49, also comes with a lot of condiments to add to the food. They also serve you unlimited amount of tortillas which were soft and delicious. The place is in an open air, hype area where you will meet lots of locals. Staff was attentive at all times and quick considering the flow of customers. This place delivers on bold flavors and excellent drinks and very welcoming. Whenever in the area I suggest you give them a try you will not be disappointed.
Fabulous. I arrived for a late lunch and was able to be seated immediately although the place was packed! Service was quick - I ordered a corona, 3 tacos al pastor, and a side of cebollas. The cebollas were good and the tacos were jam packed with meat. They have both corn and flour tacos which I always appreciate. I did like the open-air feel, but there were some flies and bees buzzing around as a result. One drowned in my salsa as a matter of fact. Not much Tomate can do about it though. Docking a star because I didn't particularly love any of the salsas and the prices are a bit high (35 pesos a taco) but imo the quality justifies it. Just not the cheapest lunch around. Bathrooms were clean and they take credit card.
Asada, arrachera, and al pastor tacos were good although I'm not a big fan of dressing my own tacos. They were still delicious. The queso fundido with chorizo and mushroom was also a great dish. I loved the passion fruit and orange agua and for dessert the flan. Flan was decent I'd give it a 4/5 while everything else 5/5. Recommend.

Our Uber driver told us we HAD to go to Chapultepec because that was where all the night life was. We were just interested in the best tacos in Guadalajara. Turns out the best tacos are at La Tomate and it's on Chapultepec! Win Win. When I say the best tacos, I dont say it lightly. They serve you all the ingredients and sauces and tortillas separately. You get way more food this way rather than little tortillas already filled. And you can customize your taco and it is much easier to share. Which by the way, you can completely do with just one order. The three of us each ordered something and we had enough to stuff our faces and enough to enjoy the next day with some fried eggs. So yummy. They dont make a list and dont take reservations. You get in line which moves surprisingly quickly. No one jumps the line and everything is super organized. The service is amazing!! It's quick, professional, polite and attentive. They gave us extra tortillas with our left overs. I agree with our Uber driver. You HAVE to go to Chapultepec and you have to go to La Tomate

Char taco goodness! This is the happening spot in the Chapultepec area of Guadalajara to grab some tacos. There could be a line that wraps around the building but it is well worth the wait! Whether you want to order à la carte or their specials of plates full of made to order taco meats, you will not be disappointed. This is an upbeat and well decorated spot that is lively and has friendly staff. I had the tacos al pastor and some asada. Ordered some guac on the side and they give you all the salsas and condiments you need. Great taste and decent price! read more

Found this place on Yelp and thought let's give it a try. This is a super popular spot because it was packed and they had so many staff working. The food was good, we got a few different tacos and different dishes. The pastor is what they are known for. It wasn't bad in my opinion, I'm just used to pastor from LA. Their michiladas were delicious. read more

Visiting from California and needed my taco fix but one problem. I've gone Vegan! No problemo at La Tomate. Some of my friends who live here recommended it and it did not disappoint. My vege-tacos were great with grilled onions, tomatoes, cactus, bell pepper, mushrooms and PINEAPPLE. That was a really nice touch! We got seated within 10 minutes and our waitress was great. There was vintage 80's videos playing on their TV screens and I loved it. My friends loaded up with pastor and carne, so everyone was happy. I love how late all the taco spots in Guadalajara stay open. It was socially distanced for those who want to be cautious and offered everyone hand sanitizer and a temp check as you walked in. I know some people won't like that but it didn't bother me at all. I'm just a Gringo from San Diego but I would recommend this spot for any traveler. read more

This place was amazing! My wife and I walked to Tomate during the early evening when the restaurants and bars on Chapultepec Ave were just getting started and the crowds hadn't yet formed. But when we got to Tomate, the place was already crowded and business was booming. Even as busy as it was, they seated us almost immediately. We watched in amazement as a huge staff (probably over 30 wait staff alone) were incredibly organized and efficient. The fact that the place was full of local people and families was a good sign that the food would be good. And it was. We ordered the Tomate Especial which I had seen recommended online. Rather than order two plates, my wife and I decided to split one large one. Big mistake! It was an huge amount of food. In fact, we could only finish maybe one fourth of the food they gave us. And the food itself was delicious. A mixture of meats, cheese and guacamole with an accompanying variety of sauces. You simply take one of the fresh tortillas and build your own taco to taste. I actually felt so bad that we didn't eat more - but a stomach can only hold so much. Rather than waste the food, we asked for a container to take with us and as we walked back to the hotel we found a homeless man and gave it to him. It was good to know the food would not be wasted. If you visit Guadalajara, I definitely recommend visiting Tomate, especially if you love tacos. P.S. The place was named Tomate Taquería, not La Tomate as the Yelp review site says. read more

Great selection of tacos and beers in a friendly atmosphere. The staff are really friendly and speak very good English. Located at Colonia Americana area. I had the arrachera- meat and warm tortillas are served separately. It came with roasted onions, peppers and nopales - definitely a generous serving for one. read more

This place was instantly superior to any of the copycats I have tried in the states. The food WAS INCREDIBLE. So much flavor and so much authenticity packed into every bite. The slices of pineapple in the pastor tacos were a great touch. All the salsas were delicious and the service amazing. Be warned, IT IS A LOT OF FOOD. This place is excellent! The location is great on chapultepec. The food and drinks are so good had the "Zárape" which had chorizo, pastor, bistec, tocino, queso. Has great flavor with plenty of tortillas! read more

Great quick-service taco place, good for larger groups, very quick service. Their menu is fairly standardized which allows for them to serve a large volume of people. PS: the Mezcalita de Jamaica was a bomber cocktail - don't miss it! read more
