It is the perfect spot for those on the go as seating is very limited. Inside, you'll find the place to be quite charming. Stone covered walls, warm lighting & the aroma of freshly made coffee makes this place feel like one out of a storybook. Both times I've gone, I was greeted by the friendly staff who did a wonderful job keeping everything in order as it was quite busy. I usually don't opt for hot coffee, but as it was a cold and rainy day, I opted for what I believe was a brown sugar honey latte. For munching, I had the strawberry croissant. The coffee itself was very small in size, but it had great flavor. It was subtle, with the perfect amount of sweetness. The croissant was flaky and the layers of the dough filled crust were incredibly delicious. is it the best coffee I've ever had? Certainly not, but the service and the charm of the cafe make it all well worth It. It truly is a must try spot when visiting Edinburgh. Stop in for a hot cup of coffee, take a stroll and get carried way in the streets of Edinburgh.

On our first visit to Salt Cafe they were unfortunately fully booked with a few walk ins waiting at…read morethe bar before us as well. This tells you how great the place is before you've even visited, so we were adamant on coming back as soon as we were back in Edinburgh. Ringing a few days before, we booked a midday spot for brunch on a Friday. And you know what, it's a good job we did, as it was still super busy when we arrived. The menu consists of breakfast (served till mid afternoon so we'll call it brunch), and other lunch items with a range of specials available. As part of the specials, there are regularly changing smoothie flavours. I had a blueberry, oaty, gingery thingy, and it was delicious. For food my boyfriend had a full Scottish with extra haggis, and I had eggs benedict with a sausage on the side. The food was absolutely amazing, and a special shout out goes to that sausage! Yummy with a capital y! Really good standard of food, good service and a cosy atmosphere inside. It's the kind of place you could take the parents to, whilst also being suitable for a hungover breakfast with your mates. Just make sure you book in advance, but it'll be worth it I promise.

The cafe was an adorable old house turned into a cafe and we got a seat near the back looking over the garden in the back of the space. It was really nice. My wife got the seasonal eggs Benedict and I got the peas a la salt. The Bennedict was good, but seemed like it was missing something. My best guess is that it's just the English muffin wasn't as sturdy as I'm used to and I'm used to it that way. The peas a la salt came over sourdough bread with bacon, black pudding and a poached egg. Same as the Bennedict, it was all yummy, but not amazing. The peas were very far from mushy (which is good), but maybe could have been a bit firmer. Things just didn't quite come together the way I would have hoped.

I couldn't believe Blueberry Hill wasn't on Yelp. Maybe its because it caters for a breakfast/lunch…read morecrowd, but I love this little local gem and its an escape when working from home :-) Its small (about 5 tables that seat between 2 and 4 at each) but very popular with locals of all ages and can fill up very quickly as people pile in. Does the usual cafe food: sandwiches (my fav is chicken, chorizo & lime pickle on brown gf bread but my mum swears by the roast beef which is cooked in-house) as well as soups and baked potatoes. Specials change constantly and today included chowder, baked trout and quorn chilli. Cakes are homemade and cover everything from tray bakes to cheesecake. This place is a gem - cheap but excellent fresh food - 4 stars, but only because I've not had cake yet...

When I arrived around two I very quickly realized I wasn't the only one with the idea for a pop in, as all of the tables were full and there was a wee line in an already wee place! What I noticed while I stood in line pondering what to get was the extremely reasonable prices. Around two pounds for a baked tattie with some fixings? Less for sandwiches? Awesome! If there had been a place to sit I may well have gotten real food, but as it was I got a small latte and a piece of millionaire's shortbread, all for the extremely reasonable price of between two and three pounds. Not bad considering how much one drink from S-bucks is! The staff was very friendly despite being eyeballed hungrily by the line of folk waiting to be served, and when I tried both my treats after leaving I was pleased as punch. Both were perfectly lovely! Have already mentioned this place to the other half and will definitely be back to scope out the noms!

THE GOOD: PESTO PRESSED SANDWICH - mozzarella, almond pesto,…read moresun-dried tomatoes, and spinach. I love pesto, and this was pesto perfection! The pesto was fragrant, it packed a bold basil flavor, and they used a generous amount! The pesto was made with almonds instead of pine nuts. Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference. The multi-grain bread was a good, hearty choice. I liked that they gave me the option to have the sandwich pressed. I gladly said yes, as nothing brings a sandwich together better. ;) The side salad was a pleasant surprise. It was a spinach salad with balsamic vinegar and sunflower seeds. It was a great way to squeeze in some extra veggies! The only thing I would change is to add more sun-dried tomatoes. Vegan cheese doesn't always have the best melting abilities, but I was okay with that. THE BAD: The cupcake was dense and flavorless. The only good thing about it was the icing. The cappuccino tasted burnt. It was the worst I've had during my entire European trip. My sandwich was good, but unfortunately my overall experience was terrible. I have never had worse customer service than I did at Chapter One Coffee Shop. The disrespect I received was flabbergasting. It truly made me feel awful. I wanted to leave, but my need for caffeine overpowered my desire to walk out. After I sat down to finish my cappuccino, I thought maybe it was just me, maybe I was overthinking. However, shortly after, an employee came to my table and apologized on the other employee's behalf. That was nice and validating. It confirmed my feelings and experience. Trust me, I get that working in the service industry is difficult. Nevertheless, there's no excuse for that type of behavior. It put a sour taste in my mouth, and everything I ate was tainted.
