My wife and I spent four days in the Cote d'Or sampling wine and Michelin star restaurants. Some peeps will know this routine. Anyway, one night we were very tired and the concierge of the hotel recommended this young restaurant. The chef formerly worked at La Benaton another Michelin restaurant in the area before opening this restaurant as his own venture. La Superb is small, chic and modern. We sat at the counter. We enjoyed an awesome 1er Cru while watching this chef handcraft our meal. We were amazed that the chef and one assistant made each meal to order while the customers looked on. This is a very transparent presentation and something very new to the Michelin realm. The desserts are even prepared on the spot and not premade. Wow. Dinner here was precisely the kind of eating that jaded my palate in California. Apparently the chef is a former Michelin star holder who closed shop somewhere else to open a calmer place here. Our meal wasn't bad, but it was far too expensive for the results. The poached egg with haddock and boudin noir was more flash and dazzle than satisfaction. My steak with béarnaise sauce was properly prepared but only adequate in flavor and satisfaction. The date, on the other hand, loved her sweetbreads with mushrooms. The dessert, pineapple with banana cream, is hard to describe so I'll leave it at this - tried way too hard to create an ugly, largely off-tasting dish, the essence of chef ego getting in the way of a good thing. read more
