Apparently they've been there several times because the owner greeted them warmly and welcomed me as the newcomer. The dining area is ornate and interesting. My daughter and her fiancé started with a chicken soup and Caesar salad. The soup was in a tomato base and they enjoyed it and the dressing on the salad. We ordered an eggplant parm dinner with ziti, veal marsala over linguine and a penne vodka with chicken. We all enjoyed our meals, which were substantial in size. I noticed that the sauces on my eggplant and ziti were different in consistency. One complemented the eggplant and the other went well with the ziti. I ordered the Spicy meatballs through the slice app, as that's where the website takes you when you look at the menu. I requested "very little sauce" as I hate the container being full of it. Of course it came and the container was full to the top with sauce and the whipped ricotta did not exist. The little bit of ricotta it had was all watered down by the excessive sauce that is not needed for 2 meatballs! I called to ask if they get the notes/requests that people ask and the girl that answered said yes they do. I asked if they just don't bother reading, or just choose to not pay attention? Basically her response to my issue was, "so what would you like us to do about it?" Honestly, nothing with the attitude that she provided, which is the way any young lady that ever answers their phone is. Earlier this evening, I ordered 3 items from LaStrada via Door Dash. My husband and I frequently pick up subs and pizzas from LaStrada's, but we never tried their entrees. Their pizza is good, but their subs are beyond good - they're a work of art. Maybe it's the warm bread or the real sliced turkey (instead of that cheap, fused together poultry product that masquerades as turkey), but LaStrada's subs are consistently fresh and delicious. A sub from LaStrada makes a sub from Jersey Mike's hang it's shredded head of wilted lettuce in shame. I wish I could just stop my review here, but unfortunately I can't. My husband and I never had a reason to be disappointed by LaStrada, so we decided to give their dinners a try. We ordered two entrees and a salad. What a mistake that turned out to be! Was Chef Boyardee hired to run LaStrada's kitchen? My husband wanted spaghetti and meatballs. The closest thing available on LaStrada's Door Dash menu was "Pasta and Meatballs" with a picture that showed meatballs with penne. No big deal - I just used the special request feature to request spaghetti instead of penne. Then I ordered Chicken Marsala for myself and a large house salad for sharing. The food arrived quickly, so no complaints there. When I took my husband's entree out of the bag, I saw that the restaurant ignored my request to substitute spaghetti for penne. Was it really that much trouble? They made my entree with spaghetti, so couldn't they have just boiled enough spaghetti for two entrees? I was annoyed that LaStrada wouldn't accommodate such a simple request, but since my husband didn't make a big deal about it, I let it go. Next, I took the "large" salad out of its bag. Oh, what a somber, colorless salad it was! For $12, someone could have at least added some olives like it says in the menu description. The salad consisted of mostly lettuce, maybe a half dozen cucumber slices, and exactly three small wedges of what looked and tasted like those pinkish, flavorless, supermarket tomatoes that typically come in cellophane-wrapped 3 packs. I'm talking about those tomatoes that barely even taste like tomatoes - they're more like sad tomato ghosts that got left behind when tomato season faded and pumpkin season took over. I didn't specify a dressing preference when I ordered because I prefer to use my own oil and vinegar, but the salad came with a side of dressing that had a deep red hue. I thought maybe it was French dressing, so out of curiosity, I dipped a cucumber in it and gave it a try. The dressing had a syrupy sweetness to it, but otherwise lacked any kind of discernible flavor. No biggie - like I said, I intended to use my own oil and vinegar anyway. After a few forkfuls of salad (at least the lettuce and cucumbers tasted fresh), I was ready for my entree. I opened the container of Chicken Marsala and took a bite of chicken with a piece of mushroom on it - and for a split second, I thought I came down with COVID again. It barely tasted like anything at all. After a second bite, I managed to identify a faint echo of marsala wine, but no hint of any other seasonings - I could barely even detect salt or pepper. To be fair, the chicken was tender, but it was bland and disappointing. It was almost like eating texturized warm water. But maybe the spaghetti was okay - there was no way an Italian eatery could screw that up, right? Spaghetti can usually be salvaged with a bit of salt, pepper, garlic, and olive oil, right? WRONG! The spaghetti was a soggy, disgusting, overcooked, waterlogged pile of MUSH. It had the same consistency as those slimy, disintegrating noodles you'd find in a can of Campbell's chicken noodle soup. At that point, I just gave up on my meal and resigned myself to eating a bowl of cereal for dinner. My husband was preoccupied with other things and hadn't tried his pasta and meatballs yet, but when he saw how disappointed I looked, he sweetly offered to share his dinner with me. So when he was ready to dig in, I grabbed my fork and took a tentative bite. The sauce tasted like canned tomatoes and salt. I didn't taste any garlic or basil or oregano. It was another bland, flavorless dish that somebody put zero effort into - but at least the penne was al dente and didn't have the mouth feel of soggy oatmeal. My husband didn't think his meal was "that bad" - until he bit into a meatball. Now, my husband isn't a picky eater. He has his preferences, but if he's hungry, he'll eat just about anything. This is a man who was raised in an Irish-American home and grew up on a steady diet of bland, boiled food. So if my husband declares that the meatballs suck, then the meatballs must REALLY suck. I had no interest in trying them for myself because I had enough disappointment for one night. If the rest of the food was any indication of what to expect, those meatballs probably tasted like microwaved balls of minced cardboard and meat slurry. First time ordering from La Strada. The experience was a pleasure from beginning to end. Called and ordered delivery, the gentleman that answered the phone and took my order could not have been any nicer. I ordered a plain pie, two chicken parmigiana sandwiches and an order of buffalo wings. The pizza crust was just right, not to thin , not to doughy. My grandsons (2 and 6) ate it without any hesitation. I had one of the sandwiches and it was very satisfying. I don't like a lot of sauce and this sandwich was properly proportioned. The delivery driver was just as nice as the gentleman that took my order. I will definitely be returning to La Strada to try some other menu items. read more

This is what you put in a garbage can at the end of the day. Called them back and they tried to convince me it's their "small portion". Avoid this place and spend your money elsewhere. Second and last time ordering. I ordered a cheesesteak with onions, peppers and mushrooms. Around 12 bucks nothing on it didn't even cover the massive not toasted sub roll. I also order Chicken cutlet sandwich, same massive plain roll. They didn't read my notes, I asked for lettuce, tomato and lite vinegar and nothing. I got a chicken cutlet with cheese. The offerings of available slices was pathetic for 6:30 on a Friday evening (btw - my husband mentioned on my way out the door that he heard the place had a change of ownership in the last year and folks were not impressed). My family's go-to Italian and the standard by which I measure all Italian take out. The prices are great, portions are huge, and the food is delicious. I think I've tried everything on their menu and have rarely been disappointed. If you just want pizza, this probably isn't the place. While good, it's on par with many places in the area. The reason to go to La Strada is the Italian meals. Their sauce is thick and heavily tomato flavored, not overly onion-y or filled with herbs. All the Parmesan dishes are great, all are generously sauced and loaded with gooey mozzarella. It's American Italian cuisine at its finest. The Francese is a surprise winner and you'll be thankful for the copious amounts of free, fluffy Italian bread that comes with each order as its perfect for mopping up all that delicious sauce. Solid basic fare, delivery, and good prices make LaStrada a good bet if your looking for something saucy and covered in cheese. read more

I ordered penne with marinara and they overcooked the pasta and put one of the most bland tomato sauces I've ever had on it. I'm willing to bet my life that was not marinara. They would have to pay me to eat that again. It is a shame because I loved the place a few years back, but trying the food again reminds me why I stopped ordering from here. First off from always eating inside prior to Covid-19 they are FILTHY. the dining room is dusty and dark crooked shaky tables and the bathroom I DONT EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START! For a restaurant that serves food they should be ashamed. The bathrooms I'm petrified of! Go to home depot and replace your dirty toilets and rotten old sink!!!! its scummy in the bathroom, dirty, not sanitary, the soap pump looks like its been in there for YEARS and they just continuously refill it with the hole to the pump caked up with black residue from dirt build up! soap costs $1.50 change those bottles! I rather not wash my hands then touch a thing in there. When my child needs to go I tell him hold it. Secondly the FOOD. Now for the most part the family is nice yes with the exception of one who is not the youngest and not the oldest and I will leave it there. He's not friendly and cocky for no reason. They are local place with a decent basic menu for a pizzeria. Lets talk current service during COVID-19. Yea they were opened and I have gone there week after week for pick up. I will tell you this and anyone who would beg to differ has their eyes closed and not there as often as I but I will tell you they DO NOT WEAR MASKS inside at all times. The delivery guys have in under their chins while they are in there yes this is the truth and unacceptable. and MANY times and YES MANY, your cook behind the main counter does not have it on his face at all or not properly. But these are things you let go because you spend money your children enjoy the place. Now over the coarse of time my family has dealt with them they do tend to not have the greatest food and they are not perfect which is ok but yes they make MISTAKES with orders. Chicken fingers many times way over cooked so well done and hard, order coffee they use a dirty Keurig and some old white plastic cup that one of the kids in there is nice enough to give us paper cups instead of that junk. Over the holiday called in for a fried calamari the portion was beyond insulting. It looked like my 7 year old and his left overs. Charged over $10 for a skimpy, empty unacceptable serving size. This same gentleman DID NOT CARE AND FELT IT WAS ENOUGH. There isn't enough room for the amount of poor people skills within this place with certain employees. To get to the main point. I was there with family and placed an order in which i have placed with them NUMEROUS times over the years and they managed to make it wrong 50% of the time. When your customer says chopped, there is only "one" definition for chopped. Fine tiny pieces, not whole small pieces or chunks. As so called cook you should know terminology. And when you prepare this food incorrect time and time again and become agitated because your customer tells you its wrong and incorrect yet again and again and again when do you stop being defensive and own up to it like a professional you should be? When it comes to food people want what they order. Also don't judge a book by its cover. Some food requests can be due to allergy, medical conditions, not just preference. So own up to your mistakes. I recently went for dinner and my food order was INCORRECT.. The waitress brought the food and stated ON HER OWN did it need to be smaller and that it would not be taken off the bill. Well no one asked you take anything off the bill but unfortunately the very simple request of the order was WRONG (yet again). Not only was that wrong the pasta portions were far less than usual but still charge $18.00. I counted pasta dish was split in 2 dishes for children as I always do and wind up with left over, one dish had 32 pieces of penne and the other 36. AS you read take a box of penne and count out 68 pieces and boil let me know how you would feel. I assure this portion was far less then what they usually serve. we were told it weighted the same for every dish. I order this dish week after week and assure you it was far less than usual. The same arrogant man was working and when he was asked to come out he was nothing short of just annoyed that we complained about his mistake and embarrassing portions. the third meal that came out didn't even have the correct animal on the dish. They actually served the WRONG order. The dish was brought to the door and some had NO MASK it was under chin, someone was taking out garbage in the back NO MASK on . you are preparing food wear your mask !!! this place is disgusting !!!!! WE WERE TOLD TO LEAVE WITH CHILDREN. I will ensure to spread the word. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Let me start off by saying the only things I like here are the eggplant parm and Sicilian pizza. The owner and the employees are soo rude!!! I first moved to Matawan 2 years ago they delivered to us twice then when I called the third time they acted like I was crazy they don't deliver to us. Then I decided since they have in the past let me try again and when I asked if they deliver they said ofcourse we do your in Matawan why wouldn't we? Next time I ordered back to it they don't deliver to us again. Same rude girl answering the phone everytime . Very weird! I have catered their eggplant parm quite a few times. My father went in one day and said why don't you deliver to my daughter and gave my address they said ofcourse we do she's in Matawan . I asked for angel hair got spaghetti I asked them to use garlic powder on the bread not the fresh garlic its too strong for me they didn't listen.
