My mom had French onion soup that she enjoyed and my sister was a big fan of the beef tartar she ordered. We also had a chocolate crepe. La Source - 48 Blvd de la Tour Maubourg, Paris 7th I have been to La Source many times before and even recommended it to friends last year (September 2024) I ate here multiple times and the food was excellent. Unfortunately, on my most recent visit in 2025 during a girls' trip, the experience was so poor that I will never return. We came excited for their French onion soup and fish, which had been wonderful before. This time, however, everything was disappointing. The food was cold, flavorless, and poorly prepared. The fish arrived with a cold sauce, and the onion soup once rich and delicious was greasy, bland, and ice cold. After sending it back, it returned lukewarm but still tasteless. We barely ate four spoonfuls before deciding it was inedible. Another family nearby also commented on how bad it was. When I politely told our waitress that the soup wasn't good and we did not want to eat it, instead of handling it professionally, she was dismissive and rude, saying, "It's not for everybody, if you don't like it, it's not my fault." To make matters worse, the soup was initially left on the bill. When I questioned it, she argued with us, rolled her eyes, slammed items on our table, and even threw our change back at us in a very disrespectful way. This behavior was humiliating and extremely unprofessional. I have visited Paris 17 times and eaten at countless restaurants here. Not once have I ever had to send back a dish let alone be made to feel as though it was my fault for not liking food that was clearly poorly prepared. Other diners around us agreed the soup was terrible but paid anyway just to avoid confrontation. La Source has gone from being a favorite to a restaurant I will never set foot in again. I always stay nearby and used to recommend it to others but, from now on, I will warn friends and fellow travelers to avoid this restaurant at all costs. Quand j'ai expliqué poliment à la serveuse que la soupe n'était pas bonne et que nous ne voulions pas la manger, au lieu de réagir avec professionnalisme, elle a été désagréable et méprisante, nous disant : " Ce n'est pas pour tout le monde si vous n'aimez pas, ce n'est pas ma faute. " Pour aggraver les choses, la soupe figurait quand même sur l'addition. Lorsque j'ai posé la question, elle s'est mise à discuter, a levé les yeux au ciel, a claqué les objets sur notre table et nous a même jeté la monnaie à la figure d'une manière très irrespectueuse. Ce comportement était humiliant et totalement inacceptable. Je viens à Paris depuis 17 ans et j'ai mangé dans d'innombrables restaurants. Jamais je n'ai eu à renvoyer un plat encore moins à être rendue responsable d'un repas clairement raté. D'autres clients autour de nous ont reconnu que la soupe était immangeable, mais ont préféré payer pour éviter la confrontation. La Source est passée d'une adresse favorite à un restaurant où je ne remettrai plus jamais les pieds. Je séjourne toujours à proximité et je le recommandais auparavant mais désormais, je mettrai en garde mes amis et autres voyageurs : évitez ce restaurant à tout prix. This is such a fabulous brasserie in Paris. We've come here several years ago. Back again it did not disappoint, and exceeded our expectations, which were high to begin with. Amazing traditional, but also new and creative dishes! The portion sizes are very generous and of high quality. This is the perfect place to visit when in Paris to get a true 'French' experience, this is a place that is also frequented by many locals. Extremely friendly and helpful service. The initial staff member was kind that sat me. The woman waitress seemed annoyed that I was American. I ordered the fish dish. It was fishy and the sauce for the ratatouille was less than spectacular. I took one bite and sat for 20 minutes before they checked on me. Although I had sat for 20 minutes displeased, they did not offer to make me anything else and they charged me the whole cost of the fish dish. We found this restaurant near our apartment in the 7th district. It was our 2nd night in Paris. Ordered the onion soup and filet minions. The soup was decent. The filet was so bland and dry I thought they served me chicken. My wife ordered the sirloin steak medium. It was practically raw and likewise very bland. Our son had the spaghetti bolognaise he liked his dish. Dessert was the best overall, my wife had the creme caramel which was good, kind of like a flan. Come payment time he was cold and suddenly acted like he couldn't understand that I wanted 15 back from my 100. Even with writing 15 on the receipt, he acted like he couldn't understand. Until I accepted a 10 instead which he of course understood. That would have of course infringed upon a bigger tip. With my intended tip he was getting a 21% total tip, which is overly fair in here. (Even not considering I did not enjoy something that I ordered and only ate one bite, there was zero compassion and in fact instead, he was greedy. Not liking the food is my fault as I ordered something I knew was risque.) I would not recommend this restaurant due to a waiter purposely trying take advantage of a patron. That's something we shouldn't support. La nourriture était bonne dans l'ensemble. Conveniently located (across the street from La Tour Maubourg Metro station) yet not too tourist-y. You will see locals hanging out there, relaxing with friends, and enjoying good food/wine. The blackboard inside indicates they specialize in Aubrac Beef, but I just couldn't pass plat du jour which is a wonderful looking whole fish, delicately seasoned with sea salt and a touch of oil to enhance without masking the freshness of the fish. We passed by and saw stunning beef-bourguignon, stopped in our tracks and took a seat with the locals. We ordered the beef-bourguignon and the duck confit and escargots from the best waiter ever! Sadly, the snails were the best part of the meal. The duck had been cooked so long, possibly microwaved, that it was HARD!! Like, cannot cut. It had rubbery skin (confit should be crisp), a clear sign it had been reheated. The beef-bourguignon special was all fat and gristle in an amazing sauce. But yuck. How totally nasty. I really want to give more than three stars but it's Paris and I place higher standards on a Croque Monsieur ("CM"). Any other place in the world it would have received four stars. I think that is fair. The owner/manager was fantastic, the waiter was diligent and good humored, and the seating was fun, albeit not too practical. Nice view of street scene. I started with the CM, which was pretty good but a bit too cheesy and generally lacking in flavor. I have had unbelievably CM in Paris, enough to almost convince me to permanently move here, but this was little better than restaurant chain quality. I was disappointed and now have to spend time tomorrow night finding a proper Croque Mons. Followed the disappointing CM with duck and potatoes. Both were very good. The duck, consisting of leg and thigh, was flavored nicely, cooked PERFECTLY, and good sized. The potatoes were quite different than anything I've ever had; they appeared to be mashed, formed into egg shaped balls, and pan fried. If that is not how they were made then I just thought of something and will try it out at home. No coating or anything, just the potato. They were perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and the texture was just amazing. In all, I enjoyed this place. The staff was great, the fellow diners were friendly, and the room was quite comfortable. read more

We are here three times during our stay. Our hotel was just around the corner so it was convenient but more than that the food is good and the service is great. I went here in March, when I was in Paris for spring break. I was a bit nervous in Paris, as I don't speak French, and I didn't want to be the "obnoxious American," and the waiter we had here was fantastic. I attempted to order in broken French, and he helped us pronounce menu items, recommended good things (and not just the most expensive things on the menu). For example, we initially said we would order an appetizer, entrees and a cheese plate, and he told us not to order the cheese plate until we were done because we likely wouldn't be hungry for it. Of course, he was right, and we didn't pay the extra 12 euros for cheese we wouldn't eat. I had a seafood salad: smoked salmon and a white fish I don't remember with baby greens, shrimp and a light french dressing, and it was very very good. I would highly recommend this to anyone in the area looking for a light lunch. It isn't extremely touristy, but it also isn't exclusively French. read more

We were on the way to the Eiffel Tower and got a late start walking, but wanted to stop in a cafe for some coffee and a croissant. Surprisingly most places in this area were closed. So we were very happy when La Source was open and looked like a nice place for a coffee. However, they were out of croissants, but the waiter was nice enough to explain to us Americans to try some tartines with butter and jam. I have never tasted bread with butter and jam so delicious. Very convenient, easy to get seated, fast out with the kid's food and entrees, but a mysterious delay before the adults' main courses. The food was OK, nothing particularly interesting about chicken or "butcher's choice" beef. The mousse was fine, too. The problem came when she presented a bill that charged 17.50€ when we thought we had ordered the 14.50€ menu, then added a 3€ per person additional charge that we put down to an unadvertised seating charge, since we only got a bottle of San Pelligrino and a pastis. There are too many options in this category to get treated like this. It's unremarkable and disappointingly fast and loose with the bill. Keep walking. read more

This place found us. We left a museum and started to walk towards our next place to visit and it started to rain and we were hungry. It looked good. The waiter was very nice, recommended us some great wine. I didn't have a huge appetite so I ordered classic French onion soup. It was divine, really perfectly cooked and flavored onions. Hubby ordered beef tartare, something I am not opposed to eating as I eat raw kibbee, for those who know Syrian food. The difference is the cut of the beef, kibbee is super fine and I find the tartare is a bit too chunky for me so the texture I do not like. The beef here was a finer cut than usual and spiced perfectly and I was glad my husband couldn't finish his meal so I could have a few bites. read more

This restaurant had shaky service. When we came in the waiter asked us if we were having lunch and we said yes ( in French mind you)! Then he proceeded to give us the dinner menu (which we realized later when every table around us had the lunch one). Everyone in our party got an overpriced salad or chicken. It tasted fine but then our waiter abandoned us and started eating his own lunch at a nearby table. This was our first and completely arbitrary stop during the week+ June 2013 Paris spectacular. We decided order off the French menu without mostly knowing what we were getting. As an example, "Oeuf Mayo" - wanna know what this is folks? It's about 8 or so deviled eggs. My girlfriend at the time wasn't the biggest fan so I ended up eating most of them, and they were delicious. Imagine having all of these dreams and ideas of French food, and the first thing that lands on your table are deviled eggs - it was hilariously awesome. And of course I had to eat it all because I had to pretend this is what I intended to order. We also had a meat and cheese plate, where we learned that the French idea of meat plate varies greatly from the Italian version. The French was very heavy on pate, most of which was the hard version. Had my first experience with Country Ham here, and last (or so I thought), but I loved that we winged it and whatever it was it was. This was also my first French carafe of wine experience. In the states, where is the one place you get carafe's of wine? You got it, the diner. So imagine my surprise when I saw you ordered by various carafe sizes (this would repeat at many of the place we went to). But it was great folks. This wasn't the same stuff you get in the states, this was served in a carafe but better then a lot of restaurant bottles. I was never a fan of French wine, didn't like it and also felt there was a snooty attachment to it. Now I can't understand how I felt that way. The wine here was fantastic, all 125 CL's of it. This was my first Paris experience, and you never forget your first Paris experience, so there may be some bias here that is unrelated to the service or food. But at the end of the day, you're sitting outside on this narrow sidewalk in the culinary capital of the world - at the time it did not get any better. read more

Yesterday we were looking for a place to sit down & watch one of the World Cup games , noticed a few TVs-great. Was with my 15 yr old daughter & we have no idea what we did(a little distracted maybe looking for a seat tho we did say bonjour) but our waiter was SO rude to us! Barely any eye contact, took menus roughly out of our hands, short words. Adding insult to injury was seeing how utterly pleasant he was to the other Americans right around us. My daughter noticed he nicely placed their checks under this little tin cup but crushed ours into the cup! And food just barely average. They are lucky to get 1 star-only for its convience. I told everyone that when I went to Paris, I didn't have a bad meal.... except the very first one that I had. We were waiting to check into our apartment for our week in Paris and were instructed to wait at a nearby cafe until we were able to get keys. That being said, yes we were quite obnoxious Americans with our luggage in a tiny cafe. I thought I'd make up for that by communicating to the server in French, but he was not appeased. We were thrown into a tight little corner in this cafe and pretty much ignored for most of the time we were there. I had a Nicoise Salad thinking it was a safe bet to ease myself into the cuisine (I was coming off the high speed train and not feeling very well). I picked around for all the good pieces, but I wasn't particularly happy with it. Not to mention the hoard of flies that kept buzzing by. Every time we even walked by this place throughout our time in the city, we didn't get very pleasant looks from the servers. I'm sorry, your cafe is in the thick of tourist Paris... only a short walk from Invalides. Get used to it. read more
