This is the place when you daydream about having a wine shop you dream about having. This is the place you wish was your own wine version of Cheers. This is the place you wish was on your street. This is my favorite wine shop I have ever visited. Great selection generally in the 15 - 35 euro range, but mostly in the 15 - 20. Rhone Valley seems to dominate and I believe the common thread was that they were all natural wines (in short more than organic, close to bio dynamic, picked by hand and only natural yeasts used amongst other restrictions...) Add seven euro and the owner will give you a glass, a plate of whatever charcuterie and cheese he and his wife have in the back, and a place to sit and have your bottle. There isn't a more perfect place to sit on a small winding Parisian street and contemplate nothing at all while the world carries on without you.

They do not have a reservation system and the wait can be a while after first seating since all the food come out one at a time for all groups. Note: more bottles than single glasses but worth it considering the ambiance and conversations you can have! A typical Paris discovery...while walking down a side street on the way to lunch, we noticed this…read moretiny (TINY!) wine shop and wine bar that had some rare empty bottles displayed in the window. So on the way back to the hotel we stopped by and within a short while we were best friends with the charming co-owner, Vincent, an ex-sommelier (speaks passable English). Don't expect anything too fancy as you squeeze into the table with a half dozen seats (there are also a couple of tables on the sidewalk), and we were apparently here on shipping day so the floor was overflowing with cases of wine. A steady stream of locals stopping by for a glass of wine and a bite at charcuterie at lunchtime. But Vincent really knows his wines, and if you do too, you will have a great time. We sampled what was open and then bought some special bottles to take back to the States. We also got a tour of their wine cellar, which is a very dusty basement that looked like it was dug out sometime around WWI. As you can imagine, the mentioned cafes were packed, with wait lines and on top of that it was hot outside. So instead we kept walking to find this cute little place, on Rue Jacob. One outside table seemed to be waiting just for us. There was construction outside so maybe this is why it was not as busy as the rest of the places but to us that was perfect. We grabbed that one table, wanting to do the "must do" outside seating Paris thing, and immediately the girls that worked there came out with waters and menus (English version). They set the table for us, and allowed us some minutes to make our choice. They had some food options, including meats and cheeses to pair with their wines. We were planning to eat somewhere else so decided on wine only. Debating on which one to get, they brought us samples of 3 different ones. After our first glass they came out and recommended others, also allowing us to try them before purchasing. They also brought some fresh prosciutto on the house to accompany the wines. The staff was so nice, prices so reasonable, and the place so cozy, we spent there more time that we had intended and loved it. This was a lovely experience and one I would repeat if I find myself in Paris again.

Then, as we walked down a somewhat quieter street on the Northwest part of town, we came across a quiet place with a large bay window, Le Petit Jacob. we walked in and asked about a table, but then we spotted that there was one solo table out front. the gal there said she would bring out wines for a us to taste, "don't worry" she said, so we got a spot on the sidewalk. She came out with a couple of red wines. We tried both and ended up getting a glass of each. Very nice pours by the way. It kicked back in out chairs and couldn't believe our luck. It was a great spot, in the middle of a "T" of 2 streets, so we could see things going on in every direction. after a bit, the girl came out again and offered to get us another. We tried 3 more reds and chose 2 more glasses. We were tempted to try some of their bites, but we had more walking to do. The menu looked tempting though. After some time we headed out, after we had paid there extremely affordable check. I think water would have cost more. I'm not sure when we will be back, but Le Petit will be one of our stops again, 100%.
