Paella Meeresfrüchte und Hauswein
Emily L.

La Sepia is located at the Sternschanze stop in Hamburg, which is filled with a bunch of hipster restaurants and boutiques. I liked the location cause La Sepia is right next to the Schanze's Sofa Bar (Zöe), so I can easily just walk on over after dinner to relax on a nice vintage sofa and enjoy some late night drinks. I had dinner on the night of a World Cup game so everyone was outside and all the restaurants were showing the game. It was really an event to see. The complimentary garlic dip at the beginning was okay, and a little bit on the saltier side, but when you're hungry and waiting on your food it doesn't necessarily matter. My boyfriend and I had the White Hauswein with our dinner. They brought our a bottle of it, and payment was calculated based on how much we actually drank, which I found to be liberating. I had the Paella Meeresfrüchte, which I definitely could've shared. The main problem with La Sepia is the wait and service. We waited for our food for over an hour and every time we asked about it, the server said he would go check on it and let us know, but he never came back. This happened about 3 times in one sitting. They would avoid us and it was just ridiculous. My boyfriend, who is a local, said that that was the norm of La Sepia. Make sure your BS tolerance is high the night you visit La Sepia. Otherwise, I would just come eat during lunch time to avoid the crowd.

We were invited to a large dinner party at La Sepia and had high hopes. The folks around the table kept buzzing about how the restaurant is known for it's good fish, and any fish I was bound to order would probably be the best fish I had had in a while. Unfortunately, the fish at La Sepia blows. No, I didn't get a bad dish - the folks next to me, who also ordered the "Fischplatte" (an assortment of different types of fish), received the exact same meal. All sat there swooning over their meals as I stared bored over my food, fork in hand, and exclaimed: "THIS is what you think good fish tastes like?!?". Don't get me wrong - for many people, the fish at La Sepia will be the best fish they have ever tasted. These people have probably been mainly having fish from the Elbe river. The sauce is pretty good. For the rest of us who are used to Mediterranean fish, the fish at La Sepia will be dull, tasteless and boring. Conclusion: He who travels to the coast of the Mediterranean sea shall have real fish. He who stays in Hamburg should stick to sardines.

I haven't found a better place to eat good fish in Hamburg yet. The place is really busy but it is definetly worth waiting for a table. Try the Taschenkrebs 'natural' and the Jakobsmuschel-Spiesse!

The food was fantastic. There was only one waiter which made it difficult. The location is great too.

Good quality and quantity, best sea food in town. But if you go there during busy hour you may need to wait for a while or need reservation

it's the best dish I've had. The way they cooked seafood with tomato soup is really nice, it tastes delicious.

This little restaurant which focuses on fish is really popular among locals and travelers alike…read more Came here today at the advice of my airbnb host, who described the restaurant as a typical Hamburg style seafood restaurant. Got there around 7pm on a Monday and it was really packed. I was eating my myself and asked the hostess where to sit- she said I could sit at smallish table with two other German lads. At first, I thought, how can I do that? Wouldn't they mind? But then I had remembered that communal style seating is quite common in Germany, so it was quite alright. It also was quite rainy, but that didn't stop people from coming in and queuing up to eat. My German was quite rusty, so I didn't know what half the things were on the menu (German only). So I opted for the Fischmix which a lot of people seemed to have ordered and enjoyed both on Yelp and TripAdvisor. The Fischmix, which comes with 5 different types of fish including tilapia and salmon, was really good and tasty (also a little salty- as expected as mentioned by previous reviewers), but I enjoyed the flavors and the dipping sauces to add to the fish. The Fischmix comes with a side of sautéed vegetables, which I ate with each bite of fish with some of the dipping sauce. Also, each fish entree comes with a salad, bread that's topped with pesto, and potatoes (which I chose the "chips" option). Definitely a hearty meal and well worth the €11.90 for my Fischmix entree. I'd definitely want to come back here again sometime on another trip to Hamburg and try all the other fish dishes. Hopefully next time I'll have more time and pop by Karofisch again soon!

The vegetables are dripping in fat and the fish soup is 1/5 oil 2) the fish soup was disappointing but the fish was fresh 3) the portion sizes are smaller than expected. How is it compared to schabi? 1) Better in atmosphere and choices and their fish and chips and sauces + free bread 2) Worse in how it's grilled, freshness and too oily However both schabi and Karo are cheaper but both didn't convinced me in their taste and made of of their fish m chips.

CASA FRANCO FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…read more I came here twice with the company I was working for. Since my boss always paid for everything. BUT I'M SURE IT'S REALLY EXPENSIVE :D I think if I'd know the prices, I would pretty much give it ZERO stars hahahah. kidding :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, what we always got was: HUGE SCAMPIES ROASTET IN OIL + ALCOHOL served in huge flames A PLATE WITH DIFFERENT FISH FILETS + a unique secret sauce made by Franco STEAK, small peaces of steak with different sauces. and more. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Honestly I don't remember it all but I know you get a lot, and all the seafood you get are really really delicious. I remember I dropped the whole steak I picked it up and still ate it, that's how good it was. But I was drunk anyways haha. LOCATION: Very very small, I guess about 20 people max. It's great, because it gives you a nice familiar cozy atmosphere. If you have the money and wanna do yourself somethiing good. Come here.

For 27 euros you get a four-course meal complete with a flaming scallop starter, fish, more fish, and a delicious dessert. Mmm. The owner of the restaurant is fantastic. He's so attentive to his customers and makes a huge effort to entertain the entire restaurant. We got several free shots of alcohol and the entire restaurant toasts together. The atmosphere is cozy, festive, and lively. There was even a traditional guitar singer that serenaded us twice in the night. My favorite part of my four course meal was the parrot fish and the crème brûlée-like dessert. I'm not sure what it was, but it was GOOD. We also ordered a bottle of wine, which was 22 euros a bottle. I'd say the style of the food was Portuguese fusion. The fun part is that the chef decides what you will eat so you don't have to order your food. The fish that he served us was extremely fresh. I think this is a great place to go with some friends or to celebrate a special occasion like a birthday. At the end of the meal, the owner also gives the ladies a single rose. :) Four solid stars for the food, and 7 stars for the service. I'll most likely be back!
