It was my son's 16th birthday and we were trying to find a place that served dessert of some kind so we could celebrate appropriately...Veermaster was the place...open late and although crowded inside and out, we were given a table right away for the 2 of us. Our server was nice enough to accommodate my request to put a candle of some kind in the Baked French Roll Crumble dessert I ordered...there was a bit of comedy when he couldn't get it lit at the table and he had to take it back to the kitchen for help. And it was not just a candle but a full on sparkler...so quite the visual treat. I also had a neat shot of Jägermesiter. I'd never had it before and wanted something local to the region. We're vegetarian and the next night, our last night in Germany, we wanted another authentic German meal of some kind and saw they had "Anton's Cheese Spaetzle" on the menu. Okay! We'd already had our fill of vegan schnitzel and bratwurst elsewhere...let's give Spaetzle a try! We both ordered it...We easily could have shared one as it was quite a generous portion that neither of us could finish. It was pretty good...basically a German-style mac and cheese that came with a very fresh and impressive-looking side salad. We also ordered "3 Kinds of Bruschetta" - This is where we should have done a little more translation research as, again we're vegetarian, and one of them was herring. Okay, lesson learned for next time. The tomato and olive bruschettas were good though. We felt really well taken care of here. We had no problem getting seated on two very crowded nights in a row. It's an upscale comfortable place to eat in with plenty of seating at outside tables right on the Reeperbahn if you want that atmosphere. Die Pommes waren labberig, überhaupt nicht knusprig oder richtig zubereitet - und obendrein ungesalzen. Das Fleischpatty war vorgegart, erneut aufgewärmt und total trocken. Der Bacon war in Fett oder Fritteuse gemacht, völlig zusammengekräuselt und geschmacklos. Ich habe noch nie so eine schlechte Mahlzeit für 19,50 € bekommen wie hier. Als ich bezahlte und der Mitarbeiterin sagte, dass das Brötchen extrem trocken sei und sie es selbst sehen könne - es lag unberührt auf dem Teller - meinte sie nur: "Gehen Sie doch zu McDonald's nebenan. At the same time, you have to deal with the rude behavior of the staff, who suggest you go to McDonald's because the food they serve is terrible and inedible. I ordered a burger with fries - it was truly awful. The burger bun was at least five days old; it completely crumbled apart. The fries were limp, not crispy or properly cooked - and had no salt at all. The patty was pre-cooked, reheated, and completely dry. The bacon was fried in oil or fat, curled up, and totally tasteless. I've never had such a terrible meal for €19.50 as I did here. When I paid and told the staff member that the burger bun was extremely dry - she could see for herself that it couldn't be eaten and was left on the plate - she said, "Go over to McDonald's next door, maybe they have something that meets your expectations." I'm shocked to hear something like that from an employee, especially after paying and offering honest feedback. Apparently, this business doesn't care about its customers - so the crap will continue to be served. So here's a good piece of advice: never go there - find somewhere else.

Whenever I visit places that claim to be specialists I like to be guided in my choice. This part can really make or break an experience. If not guided with professionalism and entusiasm I might as well go somewhere else. In Alles Elbe the entusiasm is contageous and the love of beer is undenieable. Even the tapas-like dishes were presented with a love for quality and taste - made us want to taste everything. And so we did. The smoked ham was more than delish, so was the 'syltz', but after all we came for the beer... The two beers I had were great. I especially enjoyed the Brewcifer 'Rhubarb wire', a saison beer with rhubarb and basil. Eminent taste and such personality. So tell the host or hostess what kind you like and be bold when guided - you might strike gold! Remember that tap beer can be tasted before decision is made.
