For a restaurant that just opened a couple of days ago, I had a great experience at Daniel Wischer. Apparently it is a well-known traditional fish restaurant in Hamburg, but this is only their third location.
The offerings are fish sandwiches, fried fish sandwiches, fish plates, and various side potato and salad options. They also serve wine by the glass.
I had a Bismarckhering (pickled herring) sandwich, which was served simply on a nice soft roll with some red onions and lettuce (no dressing, surprisingly), and a side of fantastic french fries (pommes). The fries were thick-cut, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and well-seasoned with salt and some other savory goodness. The fries came with a healthy helping of mayonnaise. All of this for about 7 Euro, which is a good deal in my book.
You order and get your food at the counter, and there's a large seating area inside if you're eating in. They also offer takeaway. I'd definitely recommend it for a quick lunch, and will be back to try more options. read more
