I got and shared three dishes: Hamburger Krabbensuppe (shrimp soup), Krabbenbratwurst (shrimp sausage), Nordseekrabben (North Sea shrimp sandwich). Got there around 7pm on a Monday and it was really packed. I was eating my myself and asked the hostess where to sit- she said I could sit at smallish table with two other German lads. At first, I thought, how can I do that? Wouldn't they mind? But then I had remembered that communal style seating is quite common in Germany, so it was quite alright. It also was quite rainy, but that didn't stop people from coming in and queuing up to eat. My German was quite rusty, so I didn't know what half the things were on the menu (German only). So I opted for the Fischmix which a lot of people seemed to have ordered and enjoyed both on Yelp and TripAdvisor. The Fischmix, which comes with 5 different types of fish including tilapia and salmon, was really good and tasty (also a little salty- as expected as mentioned by previous reviewers), but I enjoyed the flavors and the dipping sauces to add to the fish. The Fischmix comes with a side of sautéed vegetables, which I ate with each bite of fish with some of the dipping sauce. Also, each fish entree comes with a salad, bread that's topped with pesto, and potatoes (which I chose the "chips" option). Definitely a hearty meal and well worth the €11.90 for my Fischmix entree. At one point I figured the only way to tell which country I was in was to listen to the two older guys having a loud conversation instead of listening --- and notice they were speaking German. Upstairs is fairly standard "Irish pub" look, but the basement decor's a bit odd --- the plaster is painted like huge wood beams and stone walls with "windows" opening out on blacklight-illuminated fantasy scenes. One section of the wall has a sea god who belongs airbrushed on the side of a van. Very odd. Food, eh? The Guinness was excellent (though a half-liter instead of a pint), and the fish and chips was much better than I'd expected --- I'd rate it as a good but not excellent chippy. I would have even arranged myself with ketchup though... if I had been asked. I was also surprised to find out that the fish chunks had burnt into the styrofoam box, which apparently wasn't fit for its takeaway purpose at all! Of course, this is another of those very German places with an opaque €10 minimum spend for card payments. €7.90 is quite ambitious for that kind of food so I would have expected credit card acceptance, but I had to part with my last tenner and receive old metal in return. To sum it up, it was probably edible but I was still kind of underwhelmed, as I've experienced much better service at other railway station food outlets. A little more professionalism wouldn't go amiss. Ironically this is an example of a corporate-run fast food outlet that is surpassed in quality by franchised outlets of the same chain. Berlin's central station Gosch is operated by SSP and accepts credit cards as well as mobile payments even for small purchases. And thus I'll take my custom elsewhere in the future. If you are booked for an ICE train, hold on to your cash and spend it in the train's buffet car where you'll likely have better value for money.
