In my opinion La Salida has the best tacos. They have a large variety of tacos, carne asada , posture, avocado, chicken and the even do beef ribs. Worth the short ride from the Border. Great service and priced exceptional well. Three of us were there today, 10 Tacos three cokes 220 pesos. Like $12 USD.

I had a short wait by the food truck, but service was prompt. I had a pulled chicken sandwich with Cole slaw. Meat is served dry but I had the option of five different sauces and I chose the mild Smoked Applewood. Slaw was good and not runny at all. The meat was very tender. Gunny walked around and chatted with his customers, as usual, and let me sample his sauces. The Angry Gunny sauce is definitely hot!!! The smoked sweet red chili sauce is also good. He gave customers a tour of this new restaurant. Rose, the woman selling her sweet treats, was also there. She will have a display case on Fridays with her brownies, peanut butter cookies, scones. She is also a retired CI warrant officer. I really enjoyed the camaraderie, talking to other military retirees. The ambiance is still in the works. Gunny wants to add a dog-friendly horseshoe pit and more outdoor seating in the future.

Everyone we interacted with was kind, courteous, and tried to be helpful. Unfortunately, the food was very underwhelming. We ordered the burger with mac & cheese, a French dip sandwich, biscuits and gravy, chili cheese fries, zucchini fries, and drinks for two adults and two kids. None of us finished our meals. My son's mac & cheese had a pool of oil underneath it, the biscuits and gravy left a greasy film on the roof of our mouths, the cheese on the chili cheese fries tasted very artificial, and the zucchini fries were slimy. I also found a piece of brown paper in my food. I showed it to the staff, and they apologized. They told me they would remove the meal from the bill and even offered me a cinnamon roll for the inconvenience, which I initially accepted because I appreciated the gesture. However, when I went to pay, I realized they had only discounted the meal by half instead of removing it entirely. At that point, everything kind of fell apart for me. I no longer wanted the cinnamon roll because I was genuinely disappointed with the entire experience. I didn't argue about it because the staff had been very kind, it had already taken quite a while just to pay, and I needed to leave. Another surprise was the pricing. The menu made it seem like the meals came with a side, but we were charged separately for each one. The drinks were around $4 each, even for the kids. Our total came to $73 before the partial discount and was still about $65 afterward. I understand this isn't meant to be gourmet dining, and I'm usually perfectly happy with simple diner food if it tastes good. Unfortunately, this just didn't. It was one of those meals where you leave thinking, "Well, I ate," but not feeling like you actually enjoyed it. For the price, it was especially disappointing. I honestly feel like we could have had a better meal almost anywhere else for less money even somewhere like McDonald's, and I'm not a fan of McDonald's. I truly appreciate how friendly and accommodating the staff were, which is why I'm giving more than one star. I just hope the food quality and value improve because the service deserves better than the food that's being served.

We were pretty excited as we walked in. The atmosphere inside was cool, I really thought it was a cool touch with the old train car that you sit in. The service was fine, it was a little odd with the robotic delivery thing that brought the food to the table along with the waitress. Where I really can't give a good rating is the food. I ordered the brisket plate, a coworker ordered the chicken. The first red flag was that it took only about 2 minutes from the time we put our order in until the food showed up at the table. I don't think I've ever seen food come out of any restaurant so fast, unless it was a fast food place. I was so focused on the wrinkled, withered half chicken on my coworkers plate that I didn't really even pay attention to my brisket. The chicken looked like it had been overcooked for way too long, and then had probably sat underneath the heat lamp for quite a bit longer. Watching him try to cut through the skin with a steak knife would have been really funny, except we were both pretty hungry. When I got to my brisket, there were several good size slices of meat. There was a smoke ring evident on the top of the meat, but none on the bottom. My guess is that it had probably been smoked on a flat pan or something else that kept smoke off. The overall smoke flavor was fairly weak, nowhere near what I expected for a brisket. The worst part however, was that I needed a steak knife also to cut into my brisket. It was tough and dry. My best guess, based on the texture and a weird aftertaste, is that it had been smoked, sliced and frozen, and was then reheated in a microwave (if you've ever nuked a steak, you know how it makes the meat taste). The coleslaw and beans served as sides were alright, though the beans were over salted. Overall, this was a disappointment for food. Neither my coworker or myself were able to eat more than half of the meal, and I would not recommend it to anyone expecting good BBQ.

I'm a pescatarian and came for my better half who wanted BBQ. There's a black bean burger on the menu, but I assumed it's the frozen kind. And I confirmed it is. But they had a shrimp poboy, which was done very nicely on a fresh roll. And they happily substituted the veggies for some homemade potato chips and coleslaw. Both were excellent sides . I give my meal an 8 out of 10. Pretty darn good for AZ - I've done worse in New Orleans! The two meat platter with ribs and brisket brought a smile to my better half's face. She gave the ribs a 10 and the brisket a respectable 8. Portions were huge and most of the brisket came home. Sweet potato fries were very good, extremely hot and fresh. The cheesesteak chicken sandwich was also rated a 10. Our fourth diner ordered the chicken salad, which was a huge salad based on a bed of romaine with lots of chicken, black beans, crispy onions, avocado, corn, and other stuff. Also rated a 10! And enough left for lunch tomorrow! Our server Alyssa was great. And the chef, Jesus, came out to see how everything was. Kudos to him and the restaurant. We are not locals, but my father in law is. If I was here, I'd come regularly to make sure they continue to do well. So from someone who typically passes on BBQ restaurants, this is one not to miss.
