The hotel fit the bill to have our stay at the same place as the 50thWedding Anniversary celebration. But it does not help coming from a 4 star hotel in Quebec City and then making our 3-4 hour travel to Chicoutimi and making this place as our home base for the next 2 days and 2 nights. It did not help upon arrival that farming around the area made this time of year in October the time to lay down manure..yeesh the smell was hard to overcome for this city girl.
The place in my book falls in a 3 star category. The entrance and check in desk were standard. The hotel staff were polite and courteous. The beds are standard with standard 2 pillows and the blankets were old style. The bathroom had a certain smell which made me shudder. Especially when I noticed a clothes size sticker that was attached to the wall and was not attached by myself nor my other room mate.
The place has been in use by this particular family for many years as was a reception for another family member. Looking back at some old photos the scenery has not been changed. No updates to the hotel have been made.
So what are some of the plus points to add to this review?
Free Wi-Fi, a pool for the use of my nieces, two hot tubs for the older crowd to relax the sore muscles and thankfully in close walking distance to the Super C and the local bakery.
The reception area was adequate for the use of the anniversary party and allowed for specified details made by the party planner (my cousin). She was specific of what she wanted and the details were followed through. The space we used was roomy enough for the 200+ guests. The only pitfall that I could decipher from the francophone speaking parties was that the cocktails did not fit for the guests prior to the reception. And although last minute changes were talked about over the phone the final product did not allow for the appropriate number of cocktails during the hour.
The Sunday brunch was nothing to sneeze at with ample choices. From toutiere, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pot roast, fruits, breads, cereals, and yogurt.
The hotel's dinning area accommodated for the extra guests that morning and set up extra chairs and tables.
Overall, if you can overlook some of the minor details that are standard in other hotels (modern efficiencies) and take this place as is, then your stay here will be adequate for the purpose intended. But if you require the certain standards that might seem a luxury if placed in this hotel, well then you have to look for that hotel in Chicoutimi that makes these luxuries standard.
