A grand old hotel that looks like it's heyday was in the 80's-90's. The hotel did not look run down but it did look dated in decor. My room was comfortable and healthy in size. It was two Queen beds and had a separate area for sink and mirror and separate toilet area for doing your business. The layout of the room made me feel like I was at my uncles place who lives in a forgone era. He was a slickster back in the day and I'm sure this hotel was just the same. I took a walk and there is a huge water park for the toddlers a big pool and a few hot tubs. Really a large pool complex that you could spend hours at with the kids. The also seemed to have extended hours compared to the usual pool hours which typically closer early at hotels. Lastly the hotel had a happening looking bar with a few lizards hanging around. Also a wonderful restaurant La Seigneurie which I ate at. I'll review that separately but their specialty is beef! Hotel WIFI was a bit slow at peak periods in the evening but that's par for the course. Hotel room also had a fridge which was a nice pleasant surprise. Overall a comfortable stay and I'm sure the best hotel in the region. A great place to stay at with kids but come with tapered expectations.

The breakfast is very good and there is a nice bar in the lobby, There is everything you really could want in a hotel here...pool / dance club (in the basement...but nice) and a very nice restaurant for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Absolutely fabulous views of the fjord from the dining room and the patio area adjacent to the hotel and parking area. There is a road in front of the hotel, but it is far enough below the hotel level that it does not enter into your view of the fjord. Comfortable adirondacks available to lounge in and enjoy some wine, etc with your view. Food was a bit hit or miss. There is a five course table d'hote menu, a three course, and an a la carte menu as well. The Panda greatly enjoyed the filet on the first night, but found it a bit chewy the second night. I had a fabulous gravlox app the first night, but the soup (cream of turnip) was not something I would have ordered if it wasn't included. The bison the first night was a little rare / chewy, but the cod on the second was perfect. Desserts were excellent at both meals (creme brulee, creme caramel). The room was quite small, only about a foot from the wall on one side and maybe two on the other. While the auberge itself is an older property, the room had obviously been updated recently with led lighting, an interesting closet / dresser solution, and flat screen tv (I think there was only one English channel though). The HVAC was not loud enough to be an issue. The mattress on the bed was softer than I like, and probably should be retired soon. Wifi was better than the average hotel There is also a small bar in the hotel, though we did not take advantage of that. All in all, the issues were far outweighed by the plusses. Staff was friendly, most spoke at least some English, and I would go back in a heartbeat if I had the opportunity. Recommended.

Quiet and clean room with a nice workspace, a large flat-screen TV, free wifi, a mini-fridge, coffee/tea service, a nice washroom with the usual supplies, and in the lobby area, laundry, computers, gym, pool and free parking. Bed is plenty comfortable and the curtains do a decent job of blocking the bright morning sunlight (depending on what time of year you're here, of course). Free parking. There is a Tim Horton's within walking distance, as well as Mike's and a Subway, plus a supermarket that is accessible without having to go outside in the weather.

The AC unit is one of those units mounted to the wall under the window, something I would expect from an older outdated hotel. 2. The shower had very little water pressure, I think I've felt rain with more pressure. 3. Although the hotel looks generally updated with modern features, none of there power outlets have USB ports. There was not one USB charging port in the room, and a quick scan of the common area meeting room in the lobby seemed to also have the same old non-USB outlets. 4. The english translation written in the rooms information booklet could use a good rewrite, some of the translation just doesn't make sense. (This is very minor and I wouldn't even mention it if I wasn't making a list with other items) 5. There isn't a change room for the pool or exercise room. 6. We were told the outdoor pool is heated, but clearly they meant "not heated" or "heated by the sun only". Thankfully it was a very nice day and the cool water was refreshing. 7. The toilet in our room would not flush correctly and would constantly get stuck and keep running unless the handle was jiggled just the right way. (If home I'd fix it myself, but when paying for a hotel room like things I won't be touching that. Its vacation for a reason after all) 8. Multiple lights were out in the elevator buttons so you could never be sure of a successful floor selection until the doors reopened. On the plus side, the hotel is very clean, mostly current updates and very friendly staff. I would have no problem staying here again and if most of the issues from my list we fixed my review would easily be a 5.

These rooms are large spacious rooms with a Queen bed, jacuzzi tub, sunken living room with fireplace, and private balcony overlooking the St. Lawrence river. The other building is the main lodge. We had a beautifully decorated corner room in the main lodge, which was spacious, had 2 walls of windows, and access to a shared balcony. Each room in the main building however is different. The hotel sits high on a hill with spectacular views. There is a fenced in pool at an upper level. We had breakfast included, which was one of the best breakfasts we've ever had. Buffet table with danishes, croissants, fresh fruit, etc. You can, in addition, order one of about 12 egg or crepe dishes off a menu. Food is not only tasty, but is presented beautifully and creatively on the plate. Dining room has 2 parts- one is more casual, and one is more formal. There is also an outside patio with (an electric) fire going in a fire pit, and an outside covered area with wicker furniture with cushions where you can gather for a drink. We used this area, while waiting for preparation of our desserts. Dinner is fantastic. 5 course meal (table-d'hote). We liked it so much that we chose to eat here a second time during our 3 night stay. Would recommend this restaurant even if you are staying at a different hotel in the area. Hotel is run by a family, and service is friendly and warm. Very helpful in giving advice regarding and booking activities. For those who visit the area, we recomment the following: 1.Baie St. Paul- artist colony with lots of galleries, restaurants 2.Iisle aux Courdres- take free ferry across. Rent bicycles- tour the island in about 2 hours. 3. Hautes-Gorges Provincial Park- hiking, biking, kayaking and canoeing on the Malbaie river, boat tour 4. Whale watching (amazing- saw lot of whales!) 5. Magnificent golf course overlooking the river

With last renovations in 1999, the property is in horrible condition. Everything is peeling, broken, smelly or dirty. While the exterior is still as iconic as it once was, this resort is in a state of despair. Let's back up. Arriving to the Fairmont, valets did not offer to help with bags or even hold the door, just stood there chatting. Front desk staff were kind and helpful, but the lobby looks like a terminal of JFK rather than a hotel, the amount of people is absolutely crazy. Infinite amounts of screaming kids and zero luxury atmosphere. If a Carnival cruise was designed in a French revival style, this is what it would look like. The guest room is acceptable and while renovations are needed there also, the views of the river to partially make up for the massive shortcomings. Perhaps the highlight of the property is some of the included activities, such as ice fishing and a beautiful ice skating rink during the winter. That was truly fun. The dinner restaurant here is quite good as well, servicing Quebec classics like locally raised duck and local venison. The lounge area overlooking the river leaves a lot to be desired, the staff work very hard, but at any given point, there is hardly anybody working and just like the lobby itself, very crowded and without a dress code, resulting in a very sloppy atmosphere and kids running around. Lastly, the Nordic spa. This should be the highlight, but once again, it is not proportional to the number of guests. There is no space to even turn around in those pools, no adult pool option and just a sense of filth. Thus, as a whole, Le Manoir Richelieu is not a property I can recommend.

My only criticisms are (1) the valet staff was either inadequately staffed or not concerned with providing prompt service (2) the old fashioned layout puts many of the bedrooms at the end of a maze not immediately adjacent to the core common areas.
