Great patio to sit on during nice weather. We ordered the chocolate pancakes as well as the berry and cream and both were delish! Don't forget to try the chorizo.

Since then, we always look out for a Bills throughout the country on our travels. Three of us arrived, unreserved, for a table. OK, lets say we are 'oldies', and proud of it. The restaurant was heaving which is pleasing to see with this era of coronavirus. We were asked to wait while a table was cleared, cleaned and relaid. Meanwhile a younger couple with their family arrived and were shown immediately to a table, UPSTAIRS. Obviously, the young 'front of the house' lady had decided we couldn't have made it up the stairs. She was probably right and we were grateful. Within minutes our table was ready. A wonderfully comfortable booth. Our orders of full English, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and eggs Benedict were brilliant as was the coffee. It is also great to receive freshly squeezed orange juice and not the thin, watery, 'juice'. Service was second to none by two young ladies. Fast, efficient, friendly yet professional. Pricing is more than reasonable. I am always apprehensive about the 10% service charge. I have no objection to paying it as I would, for good service, leave a 10% tip but does it go to the staff. So many companies now put it into their profits.

This is a very nice place to come enjoy a tea and home made scone or some of the excellent food, should the main restaurant not be in your budget/closed. The menu is fairly limited for dining, but the quality matches that of the main restaurant. In some cases, the prices are a bit steep for a lunchtime meal, but with the ingredients used I can understand. Like the main restaurant the ethos here is quality. Happily, if you want a fresh smoothie, drink or a sandwich all are available at reasonable rates. There is also a lovely Mezzanine that is open on nice days in the summer and becomes a very pleasant location to while away an afternoon. be warned that the place can get invaded by affluent pensioners out for their tea and cake, but they kind of add to the ambiance of a tearoom with the major and duchess sitting at table 4 and the brigadier enjoying a slice of Victoria sponge opposite. They will also hire out the cafe for party events if you are looking for something a bit more upmarket and offer pre-order takeaway for catering occasions. Vera is also very sweet and enthusiastic about the venture. Again, quality ingredients and cuisine echo the ethos of the restaurant in the cafe. Good stuff!

We visited in Sept 2011 and discovered that the tables are left dirty inside and not wiped down once a customer had left. We then decided to sit in the garden area, but could see that the tables and chairs were not ready for customers to sit outside, chairs are left propped up against the tables which again had not been wiped down, they were full of puddles of rain from the night before. We found that out of three members of staff, one was excellent and hard working the other two could not be bothered. We had travelled up from Muswell Hill, North London and were disappointed.

Update (19/8/2024): The history repeated itself. We (myself…read moreand my husband) decided to celebrate an occasion at the Pizza Express Crawley. We had ordered Dough balls and just 1 Romana base Pollo Ad Astra. We waited for almost an hour but the pizza never arrived. Annoyingly we had to request the waiter again and with quite reluctance we were told that it would be ready in another 5 minutes. Another 10 minutes had passed with no response. Finally when we started to leave, the waiter just signed from the far end of the kitchen that he will be bringing the pizza. Another couple who had arrived at least 15 minutes later and seated next to our table got their order of 2 pizzas quite fast. This was so annoying to watch this utter racist behaviour from the staff. We requested to talk to the manager and when she arrived, she quite reluctantly apologised with little care about how our day was completely ruined because of this experience. This is happening for the second time at this specific store. Not sure if Pizza Express is a racist chain across the whole of UK but we would never recommend it to anyone we know and I will specifically make it a priority to remove the option from my employer recommended choice for business parties. Hope this matter is taken seriously if the administration team really wants to succeed in this competitive market. Thank you (2022): Had to wait a long time (~30 minutes) to get our food while the place wasn't even fully crowded. At least the food wasn't too far off the standards compared to their other branches for which it gets the 1* We got soiled/used plates with pizza and even had to ask for the pizza cutter (I think it's common sense to provide one with a large pizza). It was a lot better a couple of years ago but maybe the pandemic and current economic conditions have really hit them hard. Sorry to say but I cannot recommend this specific store to anyone and will probably not be visiting here myself even though I live in the area.

I paid an extra 1.5 to get the better pizza and it tasted like the cheap $3 microwaveable pizza from the grocery store. The funny thing is the standard pizza was a little better like little caesars in the us. The appetizers were bad but not terrible. And the topper was 2/4 employees in contact with us were sick and coughing all over the place. Save your money and go to pret a manger
