We were staying next door at Hotel Feregrino and could smell the delicious scent of freshly made tacos every morning. Seriously, they have these massive vats of pork cooking in the front. You can sit down in the restaurant for a nice sit-down experience or grab to go from the front. They provide limes, hot sauce, cilantro, pico de gallo, everything you need. Tacos are MX14 (slightly above average price for the area, but not by much, and they are completely worth it), and they are AMAZING! Like rock your socks off amazing. All salsa options can be ordered with or without chile. The menu is varied, so if you don't like Mexican there are different international options (bagels, sandwiches, eggs, etc). Most dishes are accompanied by a number of things like fruit, bagel with fresh cheese, French fries, salad, etc. They make their own bagels. Price is right considering the quality and quantity of the food. Service is usually fast and attentive. The owner regularly comes out of the kitchen to greet regulars and ask if everything is great. Sunday mid mornings are by far the busiest time of the week and you might have to wait to get a table, but otherwise the place is usually quiet.

The problem was the customer service. The owner, a Tigresa wannabe, was rude to the customers and waiters. Micromanaging everything and promising new customers a table in a few minutes. She was promising our table. Then she ordered check to be brought to us, and asked the waiter to wait in front of me until I pay, while I was still finishing my coffee. Rude, rude, rude. My wife was so upset and offended by the owners behavior that she started crying. The table in front of us was the same story. Worst thing is that she kept on promising all the new customers a table in a few minutes so people pilled up in front of the restaurant. Even for micromanaging you have to have skills.

My volunteer group decided to go for dinner one night. I was super excited that they had salad on the menu. I was happy to get some vegetables to balance out all the tacos I had eaten, but half the salad was shredded iceberg lettuce. Loved the stuff on the salad, but they could've done a better job balancing. That said, salad was hard to find so I'm still grateful. And it came with a quesadilla on the side! A pretty mediocre one, but nice to have. The restaurant also serves breakfast all day and the omelettes looked delicious. Service was nice, but it took a long time to make everyone's food and it all came out at different times. Not going to miss this place, but was glad that I got a midweek salad.

You need to turn into what appears to be a driveway. The entrance is toward the back on the left, where you'll be greeted by a valet. I'm not sure if it's open parking at certain times, but valet was the only option on Sunday morning. The food, service and ambiance were all 5 stars. Lots of art on the walls, all apparently for sale. The fresh pastries were tough to choose from, I opted for the cinnamon roll with dried cranberries. It had the perfect consistency: just the right amount of gooey center to contrast with the outer edges, which were more baked and a little tougher. The dried cranberries were a bit of an overload, which made it sweeter than it needed to be or should have been, but those were easy to pick out. The frittata was delicious, but way too much cheese. I left a good hunk off to the side to spare myself from serious fatigue upon exiting, assuming I would have been able to stand up on my own accord. The refill coffee was the only thing that was really, really bad. But, they offer Americano from the machine for an extra $5 MXN. Just go with that and skip the unlimited refills on the drip pot option.

The ambiance was great and the servers were good. The guava water they served was delicious. The soup of the day was a simple star pasta soup. I ordered the Nopalero which is basically meat strips with cactus (nopales). The meat was a little dry/tough and not a lot of flavor. Could have used some sauce. The table salsa help but that wasn't even really spicy but it was good. The bean portion was small as well. The desert was a small tasty yogurt. Overall decent but sadly will probably be forgotten. This place has a lot of potential though. Maybe it was an off day? Again, I was hoping/expecting a little bit more since it was recommended by locals. Also a big disappointment was they don't accept credit cards. This is in the center of town and has a professional feel so I thought they would. I hate having to always have to run around withdrawing cash from every place I visit in Mexico. I thought that would change by now.
