The steak bernaise tasted good but so small that is was not worth the almost $50 cost. The highlight were the potatoes. Crispy and flavoursome. The biggest issue was the ridiculous pricing. Seriously, almost $100 for about 300 grams of steak to be shared between 2. I don't think so... Won't be back

The restaurant itself it tiny - very intimate. Catherine was a lovely host, going through all the details of the menu. The garlic bread was the epitome of perfect garlic bread. I had French onion soup as an entree; my freinds had the snails. Both were amazing. For a main, the three of us split a chateaubriand. I like my meat blue. This was the tenderest, leanest cut of beef I've had in a long time. It was served with a side of potatoes cooked in garlic and spinach in a bechemel sauce. All divine. We would have stayed for dessert, but we were absolutely stuffed. My friends and I eat out a lot - mainly pub food - and aside from the quality of the food, the other key difference was the food was served HOT!!! Straight from the kitchen, to the dinner plate and then the table. We rarely eat out where the food is served perfectly. Only advice is take wine with you - there's a bottleshop on the way from King's Cross station - because there isn't a massive range inside the restaurant. This was a brilliant way to prepare ourselves for a European summer!!

Each course was tasty, fresh and flavoursome. At $75 per person it was incredible value as we had individual course dishes of Sydney Rock Oysters, Calamari, Cured Salmon, Tiger Prawns, Mussels Moules Mariniere, Market Fish along with a side baguette and french fries! We were surprised at how much was included. We literally couldn't fault the dishes and let the Chef know that it was a 10/10 experience. Bravo Bitton!

    Booked a table…read more There were two other tables dining. Already not a good sign. Asked which wine to recommend to the waitress, and recommended the most expensive bottle up front. Hmmmm! I ordered one of the specials, as it was talked up so much that I couldn't resist. When it arrived, I dived in and was instantly disappointed. Where was the crab? Where was the lobster? It was just a bowl of minestrone soup bland with a slight hint of fish. No meat at all. And was $40. The pate was nice but needed more bread, which was provided, knowing that my main was a complete disaster. Between dinner and dessert my friend wanted some fresh air and after returning the dessert was already sitting on the table ice cream melting, like we were being rushed to leave, yet there was only two other tables eating, and on that note, the third table seated after we arrived, were placed at the table next to us... when the entire restaurant was empty and this was not covid safe at all. Not happy at all, sorry but I will not be back. Do not recommend!!

There were a couple of waiters/waitress that served us throughout the evening but all of them were very professional and nice. FOOD: love love love - fried fish fritters as a starter (free), so good....that you know your evening is going to be a bliss :) - free warm bread rolls with honey butter & normal butter, yum yum ! - Pan seared salmon (main) : loved the basil & prawn spring roll ! Perfectly cooked salmon....execution was PERFECT ! - Roast pork loin (main): my first foam experience (*giggle*) ! the chorizo & crispy barley risotto went really well with the pork....giving texture to the dish. - Warm chocolate fondant (dessert): thank god the coconut milk sorbet was not overpowering, went well with the warm chocolate goodness oozing out from the fondant :) I guess my ONLY (but small) complaint is that the salmon skin could be a little more crispy??? but im a picky eater....... (With such good food, I wish I can celebrate my birthday everyday.......but I guess my boyfriend will go broke!)

The food was good, obviously alot of effort involved in preparation of one dish and so forth. The chef seemed the kind to likes get intimate with the customers, so there were times we saw him serving and presenting the food himself. My partner was a bit unimpressed by these actions because he witnessed the chef get too close to the food when speaking therefore bits of spittle landed amongst the dinner. That aside, you have degustation or a la carte menu options. We decided on a la carte because both turned out to be the same pricing and we wanted to choose our own food and have bigger portions. Not that the portions were large to start with, nope they're typically pricy restaurant style sizes. Which to be expected so no big deal. We didn't order any wines but I peeked at that menu and it was decent, mainly Aussie wines with afew smatterings of European. We had diet cokes, which set you back at $8 per small glass. Everywhere you go these days everyone charges their own ridiculousness to a soft drink anyway. It's a small restaurant, requires reservations with a random mix of mirror portraits decorating one side wall. So if you're lucky you can check yourself out whilst you dine and we all know someone who enjoys doing that eh. For entrees we had octopus and pork belly. Mains was lamp rump and shoulder and waygu beef. Apparently the waygu beef had just been slow cooked for 15hrs at 97 degrees...so according to my scientific calculations, if we had been served an hour earlier would the waiter proudly brag to us that the waygu had been been slow cooked 14hrs... The waygu did come with a pulled pork roll situation which was probably my favourite of the entire dinner, too bad the waygu was so filling I couldn't finish the pork. For desserts we had a selection of European cheeses with crackers which we could've easily sourced at Coles and a Caribbean carrot cake. According to the chef what made it Caribbean was the random cubes of pineapple jellies. Hm. We also had extra side of potatoes which we didn't eat because they were plain as balls. And some bread rolls which came with honey and salted butter. There was a free fish cake ball served as a starter as well. This place was expensive there's no way round that. In conclusion, the food was top quality but good for one time visits only. We'd never come back here again, there's too many other pricy restaurants we enjoy more that we'd rather waste our monies on.

    You know how Sydney's on this dirty great mission to be more like Melbourne, what with the small…read morebar revolution, laneway culture, yadda yadda? Well here are two dudes making that shit happen right at the Crown St coalface. Paul Cooper lives & breathes a nose-to-tail philosophy that results in a slew of inventive deliciousness, and Erez.... well, it's just impossible not to like the guy. He's a rogueish raconteur with a gilded tongue and knack for a story. These chaps have moved their young families up from Melbourne and bring their south-of-the-border culinary sensibilities with them, and it's all class. Disclosure: I came here on a famil, and tried the following: Roast Melanda Park pork, Hawkesbury River squid, pearl barley, sweet potato, peas & apple sauce ($33). The colours alone were epic, a synesthesic rainbow. Herb crusted Milly Hill lamb rump, onion tarte fine, fetta, eggplant & red pepper sauce ($31). I'm a lamb bandit from way back and this was a peach, served with a fine skirt of succulent fat that melted like butter. And a surprise winner - the fetta/eggplant creations, little packages of gold. If you're a red fan, don't go past the Tibooburra Solitude Pinot Noir 2008 from the Yarra. It's $16.5 a glass, but, guh! The colour of a rusty penny and damnably good. The beef and bone marrow dumplings were also good. Rich, filling, best served with the sauce ladled over the top. Special mention goes to their signature quail buns: think a classic steamed pork bun with delectable chunks of ginger-spiced quail. Cue hyperbolic Pavlov's dog-style drooling. Will be back for these alone.

    My go-to place for lunch n dinner in Sydney town…read more The outstanding Chef Paul Cooper (disclaimer - a mate of mine - but still - I've loved his food longer than I've known him - I met him through an outstanding Sacher Torte and have prettymuch stalked his cooking ever since). He's a nose-to-tail chef and is really committed to sustainable seafood. So for me, it's a real relief knowing that most seafood is certified sustainable, and when it's not, real thought has gone into how it was caught. The meat (pork, lamb, beef) is sourced locally and mostly delivered whole or in sides, and it's butchered on site. Bishop Sessa is the kind of place where you can drop in for a quick quail bun fix and a beer, dinner, or a full on dego ($65 - absolute bargain and too much food for me - not that that stopped me eating it). There's also a high risk that you'll end up hanging around 'til closing time testing out the wine list and chatting to some seriously charming front of house. Stand outs are the pretty pretty and delicious scallop ceviche, the absolutely divine quail buns (I crave them as soon as I step foot in Surry HIlls), the pork, and an incredible Mulloway and chorizo number. I do always say this, but save space for dessert. If there is a Sacher on the special - eat it. If they let you, buy the whole thing. failing that, cheesecake fans rate the cheesecake, but my vote goes to the nougat icecream. Deeelicious. There's an upstairs dining room too if your group is too large for downstairs.
