We regularly eat at Bitton in Alexandria. Today we experienced a Seafood Banquet that was a special for the weekend and it was beyond expectation. Each course was tasty, fresh and flavoursome. At $75 per person it was incredible value as we had individual course dishes of Sydney Rock Oysters, Calamari, Cured Salmon, Tiger Prawns, Mussels Moules Mariniere, Market Fish along with a side baguette and french fries! We were surprised at how much was included. We literally couldn't fault the dishes and let the Chef know that it was a 10/10 experience. Bravo Bitton! read more

Booked a table. There were two other tables dining. Already not a good sign. Asked which wine to recommend to the waitress, and recommended the most expensive bottle up front. Hmmmm! I ordered one of the specials, as it was talked up so much that I couldn't resist. When it arrived, I dived in and was instantly disappointed. Where was the crab? Where was the lobster? It was just a bowl of minestrone soup bland with a slight hint of fish. No meat at all. And was $40. The pate was nice but needed more bread, which was provided, knowing that my main was a complete disaster. Between dinner and dessert my friend wanted some fresh air and after returning the dessert was already sitting on the table ice cream melting, like we were being rushed to leave, yet there was only two other tables eating, and on that note, the third table seated after we arrived, were placed at the table next to us... when the entire restaurant was empty and this was not covid safe at all. I was lucky enough to get a seat at Pepe Saya's "Last Supper" at Bitton. We were seated at the back in the outdoor area which was perfect during these unusually warm autumn nights. I'd never been to Bitton before so I'm not sure if this is normal but there seemed to be a very high proportion of waitstaff compared to what I'm normally used to at restaurants so we were looked after very well. Our menu consisted of the following Single Origin Sourdough Bread with Herbed Pepe Saya Mascarpone ENTRÉE Cream of Pumpkin Velouté with WA Skull Island Tiger Prawn confit in Pepe Saya Ghee, Crispy Pancetta and Pepe Saya Crème Fraiche MAIN COURSE Free Range Chicken roasted on the bone served with Potato Dauphinoise and Smoked Pepe Saya Butter DESSERT Poached Peach Crumble with Pepe Saya Mascarpone Ice-cream It was all so delicious!!!! I loved the Tiger Prawn on the cream of pumpkin. I could smell it from the other table already it was that strong. It tasted just as good as the whiffs of flavour that traveled through the air. The pumpkin velouté however did get a little bit rich towards the end, especially when you ran out of prawn. Would have been nice to have gotten another prawn with it but that's probably greedy me talking. Speaking of, the herbed pepe saya mascarpone was so yum I asked the waitress if I could get more sourdough. She hesitated before saying it might cost extra but she'd check but then just came back with an extra slice for all of us. #winning! My other favourite of the night was the potato daupinoise. Man everything is so fancy and french I can't pronounce it. It was just the right softness and moistness. So so good. Overall each course was actually very generous and I struggled to finish the main course which mean I didn't finish the dessert which was of monstrous size. It wasn't the prettiest of desserts to be honest. In fact I might have even considered putting it in the ugly bucket and taste was it was just ok. The peach crumble just wasn't sweet enough on it's own and probably needed another scoop of ice-cream for the size of it. Pepe Saya's ice-cream though was delicious as expected. All in all a great night for only $60/person. Can you do this again next year Bitton? read more

If I could sum up this French-themed restaurant in three words it would be: all day breakfast. Try the delicious strawberry crepes or simply watch all the interesting people pass by while sipping the exceptional coffee here. Sure, you can pop in for lunch-but this place is all about the breakfast. It's a very family friendly cafe environment serving above standard cafe food. I saw safe handling hot drinks around kids and a playroom out the back, which gives mums a much needed break. On the downside, the portions are somewhat small and the food quite pricey. read more

I live near Bitton and ate there several times. The dishes I had where all decent. They were nothing to rave about, but good enough to continue eating there. In particular, they prepare their eggs really well, not overcooked as I find often in Australia. However, the last time I ate there I had a conversation with David, the owner, since I had an idea he would have good information on where to source ingredients in Oz. I was looking for spaghetti squash as it is called in the U.S. I have found in Australia it is sold as "vegetable spaghetti" and you can find it at Harris Farms btw. Anyways, when I asked David about it he took the opportunity to insult Americans' taste in food and laughed at me. Really. I was shocked. One thing to insult me behind my back, but straight up to my face! Jackalope. He lost a regular customer. Plenty of other places to spend my dining dollars. read more

Alexandria is rapidly becoming a hot spot for food and shopping, Bitton Gourmet Café is a classic example of how this suburb is evolving. A café, a grocer and a patisserie; Bitton provides the classiest of foods in a totally unpretentious setting. It's has a great relaxed atmosphere and is very family friendly. Run by David Bitton, he prides himself on his personally run café and provides wonderful service to each and every customer. There is a definitely a homely vibe to the place. I once went with my friend who is gluten intolerant and were pleased to discover the many options for her, they cater wonderfully to the gluten intolerant. However, when her dish came out it was covered in what appeared to be breadcrumbs. They happily gave us a new one but just remember to reiterate your concerns. The breakfast is delicious and unique, try their truffled scrambles eggs on warm sourdough bread with forest mushroom. YUM! For lunch you can't go past a juicy Wagyu beef burger on a tasty Turkish roll. A little taste of France in our very own backyard. read more

We've had a few lovely meals here. The service has always been friendly and attentive, and the wait staff all know the menu well. Last night I had the truffle risotto which was delicious! Decent size servings and average prices. Very relaxed comfortable vibe, and the owner often comes around and checks on each table. Both visits we've had a complimentary brûlée which I suspect is the norm. Highly recommended. read more

Excellent little French bistro. The food is great, provided you aren't health conscious - the garlic bread in particular was soaked in butter, but absolutely delicious. The staff is friendly and delightful - having to leave in a hurry to make it to a show, without time to have dessert, they made some small servings of creme brulee and offered them for free while paying the bill. read more

Great place where the service is impeccable. The staff are all friendly , personable and efficient. The Owner David is a gentlemen and is heavily involved in the day to day. He often walks the floor greeting customers. Coffee is brilliant. Great place for breakfast lunch or dinner! C'est magnifique! Button is truly delicious and a real gem as they serve food late! And by late I mean 4pm and you can still get everything on their menu. Perfect if you need a really late lunch/early dinner. It's a family friendly restaurant with a play room out the back adjacent to a gorgeous veranda with vines and fairy lights. Lovely and heated in the winter times and I'm sure it would be absolutely divine in summer/spring. All the dishes on the menu come with a wine suggestion and the staff are only too happy to recommend something else to drink depending on your tastes. Everyone knows their stuff here and it's refreshing to see waiters really knowing what is on the menu and what flavours go together. It's a little pricey but well worth it. I had a beautiful pasta dish with roasted vegetables and mascarpone cheese and it was the perfect size! The real stand out of the meal was the desserts. We shared between us a chocolate fondant, which oozed the chocolate sauce just like it should, a lemon meringue tart which was the perfect mix of sour and sweet and some hazelnut praline crepes with cinnamon ice-cream. I don't like ice cream generally but I almost devoured this one. It was so light! They also gave us a free mini creme brûlée each...I'm not sure why but I wasn't complaining. The creme was so smooth it basically melted when you put it in your mouth and the crunchy sugar on top was perfect! read more

This is by far my favourite restaurant in the Inner West!!! The beef eye fillet melts in your mouth, and the peppercorn sauce is to die for!!! Friendly service and definitely child friendly since everyone around us had small children. The food was good but not as good as the other brunch places I have been to recently. I had the crepes and my friend had the corn and coriander pesto omelette. I also ordered the potato hash brown things on the side which were pretty epic. We did get a free very delicious mini Creme brûlée for desert which makes me think this place may be better for desert. There's a cute little outdoor area in the back if it's free! read more

Lovely introduction by the owner as you walk in. Breakfast was delicious and simple, but over the olive oil fixation - and here as a French place its seriously all about oil and fats. Don't eat here every day, maybe once a month - but it really is tasty. My client chose this cafe hence I showed up. :) Great coffee, awesome interior, KID-friendly (which made me go back in the weekend with my hubby & kid in tow) Always happy with the service here. This is a spectacular cafe. The best in the area. Great food, great coffee and great service. David Bitton is a talented chef with a a strong entrepreneurial spirit - he is always entertaining with humour and wit. Enticing menu. My favourite is the ham hock omelet. Creamy with indulgent amounts of ham hock, crispy toast and bitton's famous spicy tomato sauce. Closely followed by his crepes. This ever increasingly popular spot in Alexandria is a great for a bite of breakfast or lunch. It is one of those 'never fail' options that you'll find yourself going back to again and again. The experience is one of culinary excellence mixed with a casual café vibe. Mr Bitton himself is French so naturally the cuisine is French inspired. My pick of the whole menu is the 'crispy skin duck salad'($20). The cuisine here has become so cult that Bitton sells its own produce and has produced its own cook book. If you find yourself temped by the oils, sauces or preserves pick up a couple. For only about $10 each these are well worth becoming staples in your own kitchen. read more

Whatever the afternoon version of Sunday brunch is, I did that yesterday with an old friend who I haven't seen for a while. The attraction of Bitton was the French-inspired menu and on that point, this place came up trumps. My friend's eye fillet with red wine sauce was tender and perfectly cooked, my macadamia crusted barramundi was crisp-skinned and the flesh itself, delicious. One small quibble with my main: the over-cooked leeks imparted far too much sweetness and so some balance here wouldn't have gone astray. As for dessert, I really loved my lemon meringue tart. The pastry was light and unobtrusive and the filling, superbly creamy. Did I say the coffee was excellent? Well it was. I liked the friendly staff and the singer at keyboard was a funky and welcoming idea, except the volume was a tad loud. Trying to catch up on all the goss with my friend was awfully hard when having to shout above a deconstructed version of 'Billie Jean.' The paltry winter sun, made more dim by thin cloud, would have made the lighting of candles or the presence of an open fire worthwhile but hey, I come from the restaurant wasteland that is Waterloo, so I cannot be too picky.
