The most amazing breakfast sandwich on the planet!
Lisa S.

So when traveling we always use yelp to help us find the best places to eat and 1 Abercrombie Lane did not disappoint. Close walk from our hotel, it was the perfect breakfast venue. Small place with seating in the lane, but it was amazing! Highly recommend. This is, hands down, the best breakfast sandwich we have ever had!

Flat white

I have come here a few times for breakfast. I have enjoyed all my meals here. The small shakshuka is a flavorful and light breakfast. I also really liked the breakfast sandwich with a bagel. The flat whites are very tasty. It's in a tucked away spot in an alley, so you need to look for it, but once you find it, it feels like a calm little haven in the CBD.

Breakfast sandwich is life!!

By far the best breakfast sandwich and bagel I've ever had in my life. Sometimes I dream about it, sometimes I imagine any other breakfast sandwich I Happen to be eating tastes like it. It was tricky to find this location because it's down a small alley, but it was absolutely worth it! The establishment is very very small but everything is super fresh, the staff is amazingly welcoming and warm and you really can't get an experience like this in too many other places. I would easily make my way back to Australia just to come back and eat another bagel sandwich here. Please refer to photo for the breakfast bagel sandwich that has ruined almost every other bagel sandwich since.

Slow cooked beetroot and haloumi salad $15

This hole-in-the-wall is also down a laneway. Does that make it double times cool? Better still, they bake all breads, muffins and bagels in-house. Coffee isn't my fave in the area, but still decent. I often tout their amazing eggplant, slow roast beetroot and haloumi salad. A salad of style *and* substance. The cooks get andventurous with the sandwich fillings, too...like pork belly making bedfellows with kimchi, leek, sesame and chilli mayo. Or miso chicken with cucumber, slaw, coriander, carrot, daikon pickle and yuzu. You'll have to visit to find out the other 7 options. And that's not counting the specials. Seduced?

Baked goods and breakfast menu

If you have stumbled across the bar Palmer & Co and I know many Sydney-siders have. You will be able to easily find this gem down Abercrombie Lane. You can't miss it as the name and signage outside the café also happens to be the address - 1 Abercrombie Lane. I was a big fan of the BIG sandwiches and BIG salads the previous café owners had at the same location. I can now confess I'm a BIGGER fan of this café. The servings are just as big but the menu has been replaced by a healthier, yummier range of breakfast and lunchtime foods. The barista told me they have been opened for about five months. All I can say is I have been missing out for the past five months! I feel like I have discovered a gem and can't wait to share it with everyone. My friend tried the orange glazed carrot & miso chicken salad which she told me was just as delicious as it looked. I went for the beetroot and haloumi salad which was filled with healthy, fresh and yummy ingredients. Did I mention the servings are BIG?! We were so full of delicious good food we had to do a few laps of the block before filing back into the office. The only down side of our visit and it wasn't the café owners or staff's fault, was construction work going on in the building. We could feel the vibrations of the jack hammering through the floor. If you visit whilst the construction is still going on please don't be discouraged from eating-in as the construction noise wasn't loud enough to interrupt our conversation or cause any discomfort. All baked goods are freshly baked on premises. There is a selection of muffins, brioches, bagels and sourdough & rye breads for sale. They can be ordered for eat-in or take-away. If you're eating-in there are seats inside and limited seating in the lane way. I recommend not bringing a big crowd with you as there isn't the room. I'm already planning my next visit to try one of the Abercrombie sandwiches. I'll be taking friends and a big appetite with me. Can't wait.

The awesome menu

First impressions count, and GC had me at hello... That 'tash, is to curling what.... Curling is to the winter olympics. Awesome sauce! I fully expect moustache rides will be on the menu if business ever hits the skids. Alas, despite the gleeful charm of the curly coifed one, nothing short of an excellent coffee with character was going to make the all important lasting impression on me and sadly in that area GC disappoints. I gave GC the Soy Latte test and the Long Black test and it just doesn't measure up to other coffee in the area. I like strong coffee with complexity and GC just doesn't have that. It's not the worst but it is very weak despite using the same La Marzocco espresso machine (that Barista's rave about for ease of use) as other places in the area. The service at GC however is very good and to some people that's first priority. So if you aren't too fussy about your coffee and are looking for a smile and a spring in your step from an energetic soul then get your morning fix at GC, and start the day on a happy note.

We came in thinking it was just a coffee shop, but it's essentially a restaurant that also has a focus on coffee. They have a full bar and a window to the outside where you can order just coffee and tea to go. As for the interior it's dimly lit and sort of has romantic date night vibes. We essentially only ordered coffee and one person ordered a cake slice. The lychee cake was pretty good per my aunt. A couple people ordered the Coco Loco, which is basically an espresso martini on steroids with Nutella and something like a Ferrero Rocher. I ordered a latte and their Affogato. The latte was very smooth and BI is arguably one of the best I've ever had. Is the Affogato a cheat code because they use like a tiramisu ice cream? You could argue that case. You can also buy their blends of coffee beans, subject to availability. While the latte was very smooth, I can't say it was mind blowing but it was still pretty good.

I also reserve 4 and 5 star reviews for exceptional service with unforgettable dining experiences. The ambience is intimate but also noisy. I will say the coffee here and in Australia in general is some of the best coffee I've ever had. I ordered (2) espresso martinis, pancakes, and the sirloin steak breakfast with a side hashbrown. My pancakes were stone cold but I will say the aesthetics on it made it edible. The pistachio butter cream was to die for. My steak was ok ; for the price I simply just wanted more. I could be wrong but I doubt it was even 6oz. If you have this place on your radar be sure to make reservations. This goes for almost every restaurant in Sydney. My server was Cassie who was very personable and even gave us tips on what to watch out for dining in Sydney.
