Suruki Supermarket is hands down my go-to spot for all things Japanese. They truly have all the…read moreessentials, and the quality is always on point. Their sashimi selection is incredibly fresh, beautifully cut, and perfectly packaged to-go. I'm a huge fan of their tuna--especially the otoro, chutoro, and akami--but you honestly can't go wrong with their salmon, uni, or any of their other fresh fish selections. Their hot food section is just as impressive and made fresh daily. Whether it's chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, salmon teriyaki, sushi bowls, nigiri, chicken karaage, or grilled salmon, everything hits the spot and tastes homemade. What really makes this place special is the family behind it. You'll almost always see Ken, Shu, Misako, or their mother Ryuko, and they make the whole experience feel welcoming and authentic. And if you're into whiskey or just a casual drinker, keep an eye out for their selection--they occasionally carry rare bottles like Yamazaki and Hakushu, which are getting harder to find these days. Overall, Suruki is a gem in San Mateo. Quality, freshness, and great people--what more can you ask for?

They have a cheese department that they pair with the wine department and can suggest various combinations for get-togethers and intimate dining. I love their hot bar for takeout and their deli can make handmade sandwiches that are second to none. I'm so glad this grocery store is in town and would recommend it to anybody who likes food as well as likes to cook. Speaking of sandwiches, it's not unheard of to go in there for lunch have them make a turkey or roast beef sandwich, get a side and then on the way out there's a Jamba Juice right next-door. Make my day!

We did a little grocery shopping for my stay and it was so refreshing. We got veggies, breakfast, fancy cheese, and ready meals. It was a cute small spot for the town it was in! I was pleased with the amazing ready meals we got. I got a salmon dish on top of rice with zucchini. It was so good and I wish I had a piazza's near me. I love the Brie cheese we got with the fig jam. I got some of my fav sparkling water too which was nice!It has definitely inspired me to find some of my own. The service there was great too! The two guys at the check out were fast and very kind to us. Overall it was an amazing experience and I can't wait to spend a little more time when they're not closing.

Parking is much easier and less of a maze…read morethan the Hillsdale one, an easy breezy in and out, as with all T.J.'s it not too overwhelmingly large aka Costco but also not a mom n pop pinky dink supermarket. It's perfect with all sorts of things you never knew you needed or wanted, less market than a treasure land. Everyone super helpful and on the ball, all aisles neatly organized and labeled. The parking lot readily accessible. The exterior is pleasing aesthetically laid out with flowers and bouquets, as is the front of the entrance. Nothing not to love here!
