I rarely give one-star reviews, but based on our 2-night experience in March 2026 this place deserves no better. While the public spaces of the hotel look good, the 2 guest rooms we saw had issues. Given the mix of glowing and bad reviews I saw on the hotel's own website I have to wonder if the place has some rooms that are much nicer than others. This LaQuinta looks nice on the outside and is located near several other hotels, including a Hampton where we've previously stayed. We may have booked this place because it has a guest laundry... but I don't recall. There are a couple of restaurants within easy walking distance but there are no sidewalks to get there. This hotel and others in the area seemed pretty empty on the weekend we stayed. This wasn't surprising given Winnie isn't a touristy area and spring break was ending. We could not get into the first room we were assigned. The key cards didn't work at all. After being reprogrammed, they still didn't work. The afternoon manager tried her universal key and couldn't get in. The second room we were assigned, on the 2nd floor, took several tries to get in. The key cards didn't operate smoothly. Once we got in, the room smelled very strongly of disinfectant. We could hear a crying baby across the hall. So this room was a no-go as well. At that point I asked for a refund and we were told the room was booked through a 3rd party. While I wasn't sure that was true, we decided to try another room. This time, the card keys both worked. The first floor room was quiet and seemed clean, but showed wear and tear to walls and the floor. There was an odor similar to the 2nd room, but a bit less prominent. We tolerated it, and the 2nd night seemed better. Fortunately, the king bed was comfortable. The nightstands in our room each had 2 110V outlets, and there were also outlets on the sconces above. There was an alarm clock on one nightstand. We neglected to check it, and it went off at 6 am on our first morning. The TV worked well, and the room furnishings looked relatively new. The bathroom had a tub shower. Liquid toiletries in the shower were older bottles of Dove brand, but there was no shower gel... just 2 shampoo bottles and 1 of conditioner. There was a small bar of soap for handwashing. There were no washcloths in the room. Flushing the toilet took several tries each time. Water pressure in the shower was poor, and the temperature varied. There were very few patrons in the hotel the 2nd night we stayed, so there's no excuse for this. The tub floor was slick, and the grab bar location wasn't optimal. Breakfast was included, but the hours were extremely limited, 6-9 am, even on the weekend. The selection was familiar: powdered eggs, potatoes, and a sausage patty... plus a waffle machine for hot items. Only regular coffee or tea (Bigelow) were available, plus orange juice. The breakfast area was bright and cheerful at first glance... with some obvious issues (see photos). It's been a long time since we've stayed at a LaQuinta, and it's likely we will not choose this brand in the future. This particular hotel is a victim of poor maintenance and should definitely be avoided. read more

Not luxury and the building needs work, but reasonably priced. Extra firm bed with semi-soft pillows, so I slept well. Musty smell in the room at first until I turned on the AC. Noisy, dirty air conditioner, but it worked. One of the outside doors to the building had no latch or lock and the lobby is not always manned, so security is questionable. Dirty grounds that reek of Fabuloso, depression, and sweat. Rusted doors, stained carpets, did I mention it smells bad? Dirty mirror in room, blackout shades that didn't close fully. Ugh Checkout time is 11. I was told noon by the night shift clerk, and the sign says NOON. At 11AM, the front desk calls my room. Ok, no big deal. As I get back from loading my truck up, for some random things I left behind, I see 2 maids cleaning my room. WTF, I hadn't even checked out yet. Get to front desk, they clear up the confusion that C/O time was changed, assure me I won't be charged 2 days for my 10 minute late checkout and I go on my way... This hotel needs to communicate and train their employess better. Southern hospitality? Not here read more

Very clean room. We had really comfortable beds and the hotel staff was very accommodating on giving us blankets, towels and even let me use the toaster after the breakfast hours were over to toast my bagel. Also sent maintenance very quickly to fix our toilet which was not flushing all the way but fixed very quickly. read more

My son sliced his foot deeply on loose sharp tile by pool. Asked front desk for first aid kit, she barely looked up and said no. No one ever checked on him. Won't be back. Ice machine also out of order. Sign looked well used. read more

Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Room was clean except for the empty whisky bottle under the bed and the lost medicine capsule under the bed. The floor was slick and the bathroom door would not close. The door jam went over the bottom hinge and would not allow the door to close completely. We were in room 118. All in all the staff did a wonderful job, but the facility is in need of some TLC. read more

The bathroom ventilator, or whatever it's called, in room 204 was obnoxiously loud. There was an odd odor in the hallways but, fortunately, not in the rooms. Hotel was just okay. The 2nd floor hallway near the elevator smelled like skunk. There was something that had been tracked in on someone's shoe/boot that looked like it could be dog poop. When I told the clerk about it he basically said it wasn't his job, it was the maintenance's job. Any good clerk would have found a broom and swept it up to keep all the other guests from stepping on it! I know I would have! He spent his time sitting in the lobby chair watching television and staring at his phone and acted as if doing his job was a problem. The breakfast was mediocre at best. Neither the eggs or sausage was hot and the choices were slim to none. Comfort Inn and Suites was much better as was the Hampton Inns. The room was clean. Would not stay here again though, even though I do stay at the La Quinta Inn in Bryant, Arkansas and have always enjoyed that hotel. read more

Stayed here for two nights. I had a two room suite. No television in the living room. Had to watch TV in bedroom. I reported this to front desk, but no tv when I returned do second night. Lobby and hallways smells moldy. The room has a different and also unappealing smell. Checked out early. Around 05:30. No front desk person. Called out, knocked on door to office and no response. After 20 minutes waiting the phone rang and after a minute of ringing, a woman ran out from behind the wall to grab the phone. She then turned to me and I said "you were sleeping", she said "no I wasn't". She checked me out without another word. Avoid this place at all cost. read more

Service was great but the water pressure was awful, I was able to watch 2 entire episodes of Locke and key before there was 4 inches of water to bathe with. when telling the attendant on duty she said it was normal, but the normal guy I deal with at this location said no that eh would check it out. I'll probably stay at a different location or another hotel next time which is kinda sad because I love La Quinta hotels... but this one is a problem between the AC not working correctly and the water pressure. it's not really worth my money to stay there considering the options we have today. I even considered asking for a refund but he said we couldn't do anything about the cost. read more

Winnie Texas laquinta review landscaping full of weeds, Tall weeds growing through the pavers in the front of the property. Staff was always in the dinning room watching TV anytime you needed help at the friont desk. Dates covered the sidewalks and bird droppings everywhere. read more

We had an overall very good experience. The staff was always helpful and attentive. The room was clean and the location of the hotel was convenient. The only disappointment was the pool it didn't look clean, had black all around the bottom and on the sides. I wish I had pictures to share..I did not get in it..Also the gate had missing pieces that I thought could be dangerous as a child could walk through it and get into the pool...generally the outside of the property needed some attention to cleaning and the trash better dealt with. However if you need a good place for a good price especially if you have a pet I could recommend this property... read more

My husband and I found LaQuinta by Wyndham to be a clean, comfortable hotel with a friendly staff. The room was large with a King bed, a couch, two lounge chairs and a TV. The bathroom had a tub and shower, and amenities. The heat and air conditioner worked well as did the microwave and fridge. A full breakfast with hot and cold options. Great coffee. We would recommend changing the bed and living room furniture so you could sit in the chairs or on the couch instead of the bed to watch TV. read more

Clean but needs routine maintenance. Torn carpet, missing handle on closet door, chipped wall paint, rusty towel rack, rusty flange on toilet shut off valve, light bulbs not working, missing desk drawer handle, and exposed particle board on door to where the refrigerator lives. All this in room 103. Lobby and breakfast area looks great. Good breakfast selection. When I checked out and gave clerk a list of the problems, she thanked me and said most rooms have problems. The owner isn't spending money on maintenance issues. read more

Nicely re-done suites! We fled from a house with no power or water to stay here for three days during the deep freeze emergency in Texas. The hotel had power but lost water on the second day. Everyone at the hotel was kind and resourceful in dealing with the crisis, giving us buckets to take water from the pool to our rooms for flushing toilets, for instance. They were very flexible with check in/out times and did what they could to get all of us through a tough situation. read more

The service was great! We had to leave home in the middle of the night from a flooded house due to the TS Imelda. We got the and got a room right away. Service was great from wed-sun. Even was going to extend our room for us but ended up goign to a friends house to stay. Rates were great. ONLY reason I did not give 5 stars is because smell of the room would take your breath away. The 2 individuals that, I assume, were talking care of the bar were sitting in the lounge area watching TV. I did not say anything to anybody than as I was in a hurry to be on my way. read more

The La Quinta was okay. It was some what run down and you could see the wear and tear in the rooms. The over all mood was down. I have stayed in several hotels over the last few months and many use the pandemic as an excuse to lower the value of the stay. For example this hotel gave a "brown bag" breakfast which consisted of an apple, fruit bar and a bottle of water. I some of the hotels the still serve a buffet but you point to what you want and they put it in a container for you. Another hotel just had a person take orders for how you wanted your eggs or omelette prepared. There are way to make the customer feel important and La Quinta did not. read more

We had a mostly pleasant stay. We were there for 3 nights on the weekend of the Rice Festival (which had been cancelled due to TS Imelda a few weeks prior). The room was large with plenty of space. The air conditioning and fridge worked. There were just small things here and there that prevent me from giving a higher rating. The hotel is older and wear and tear were evident. Two of the three interior doors did not close easily, forcing us to either leave them open (one was a bathroom door, the other to the bed) or shut as they made a loud noise and were difficult to close. One of the TV remotes was not working, the handle to the shower was falling off and we did not have hot water the last night and next morning of our stay. The pool was out of service, but considering the damages from the storm a few weeks prior, this was not surprising nor disappointing. Lastly, I feel the rates we were charged for the rooms was too high for what we received. read more

This is a long review but will give you pretty much my whole experience with the hotel, and I travel around the Louisiana/Texas area a lot. This is a nice hotel in a good location right off the highway, easy on and off of I-10. They do allow pets, I saw a few dogs while here. The rooms don't smell like dogs though, ours actually smells very nice. The elevator and hall kinda have an odor but it's not overwhelming. The elevator acted like it didn't want to work at first but it does, it's just slow. If you're looking for something safe, I definitely felt okay traveling by myself and walking through the parking lot at night. My boyfriend travels for work and on the weekends I occasionally meet him wherever he happens to be and this was the first time that I've had a problem getting a spare key to a room. Usually he will call and leave me one at the desk because I often won't get to the hotel until after he's gone to sleep. They had no key upfront for me and after driving hours and it being 11pm, I just want to get to the room. Of course the room is under the manager of his company, not his name so it took a little time to get the key. (Never had a problem at any of the other 5+ hotels he frequents.) Monday he mentioned that the hot water didn't work, he called the front desk and maintenance was supposed to check it out. I never heard him talk about it again so I assumed it was fixed and there I was, on Friday night, the water is COLD. Not even warm but just plain cold. I did enjoy the working hair dryer they had in the bathroom, I used it as a body heater and to dry off with after the freezing cold shower. I left for most of the day Saturday to go visit my parents near Houston and when I came back, I brought cheesecake. When I get up to the room to put it in the fridge, it was hot. I called the front desk and she was very polite and helpful, I hear it running and I did troubleshoot a few things with wires and the knobs and but it just wouldn't work so I gave up. The AC is awesome though, if you like a cold room they definitely can give you that. So I bet you can imagine where I stored the cheesecake until we ate it. The rooms are very spacious and ours had a king bed with a couch, two chairs, a table with outlets and plenty of room if you need to bring business or school work. The beds are comfy, they have the memory foam mattresses and give you plenty of pillows. The internet doesn't stay connected long and was kinda annoying to have the message keep popping up so I just used my data for most of the stay, but the wifi is free. The breakfast doesn't start until 6 on the weekends, which we didn't know, and they had people inside making themselves coffee so we walked in and started making plates. The employee was a little aggravated with us going in 20 min before they opened up for breakfast and you could tell by her response when we talked with her. There are a few other chain hotels I passed and could see from our rooms window, I'm not sure which one is the cheapest, but this hotel is nice and I would stay here again if I was promised a hot shower. That's the main thing that made me have a negative impression on this place, who enjoys cold showers? read more

Hotel itself is wonderful. Our room was huge. They are pet friendly with no fee or breed restrictions. Bed was super comfortable and the room was very clean. Breakfast in the am consisted of fresh waffles, oatmeal, cereal, eggs, sausage, bisquit, coffee and juices. I took off one star because their parking lot sucks if you are towing anything. We have a car on a tow dolly behind our truck and it was a nightmare. read more

The hotel is convient, right off of the interstate. It's clean, the rooms are average size and the beds were comfortable. Pets are allowed. There is also a business and fitness center for guest. The staff was friendly and check in was quick. Breakfast was less than impressive, it didn't match up to other hotels we've stayed in, and we ended up going out instead. The pool is outside, on the small side, and the water was not clear or useable during our weekend stay. We enjoy a cold room at night, the a.c. didn't cool the room down as we hoped. read more

Let me start off by saying that this a very CLEAN and safe hotel! My husband and I travel for our job for about half of the year, and we end up having to stay here about 8 days out of the year. I would recommend this hotel to anybody, and will continue to stay here for years to come. However, the service is HORRIBLE! The lady was on the phone gossiping with a friend the whole time I was checking in, didn't recognize me as a rewards member, and didn't tell me when breakfast was, etc. She literally whispered my room number to me and that was the extent of it. There is only one vending machine in the hotel that's on the first floor. I went to get a water, and it was sold out of everything! So I went to the front desk and asked if they had any water, and they didn't(big surprise). They also didn't have any toiletries that I forgot at home and needed. Frustrated!!! read more

I chose La Quinta as I have had really good experiences with this hotel chain. Overall, the hotel was as I expected, clean and quiet and our room was very nice and comfortable. However, all the vending machines were out of order, and the complimentary breakfast was sub standard at best. The tables were not wiped off, the coffee and hot water for the tea was luke warm. The milk pitchers were nearly empty. The hard boiled eggs were just left in the tray they came in and were placed on the counter without keeping them cool. The hot food items were really picked over without any effort from the kitchen staff to restock. No fruit, no bread for toast, the list goes on....it was totally unappealing. It appears the "kitchen staff" was also the guy manning the front desk and he was more interested in his phone than he was in keeping up with the breakfast area. So, we packed up our things, checked out early, and drove the half mile to the Denny's and had a lovely breakfast with piping hot coffee and tea. I stay at hotels like this because of the convenience of the complimentary breakfast. However, I will not stay at this particular hotel again. read more
