Awesome lobby!

Perfect place to rest after driving all day on I-10. Close to Galveston if you're planning a beach trip. By far the nicest Hampton inn I've been to in the south, and friendliest. Dip, the guy at the front desk, let me check in 3 hours early, helped me with my luggage, and even put on the SAINTS FOOTBALL GAME on the lobby TV when I came back downstairs to wait for my friends. It's the little things. Give that dude a raise.

We rented a room Wednesday March 13th for the girls to swim because the hotel had an indoor swimming pool. The girls came out of the pool after about an hour screaming and crying that their bodies were burning. I brought them directly upstairs to the shower to wash them off. I then called the front desk to have them come look at the damage their pool did. I directly checked out and had my husband collect water samples from the pool. My daughter had to go to the emergency room 2 days straight. When I followed up with the owner of the hotel the next day he acted like it was nothing and brushed me off with I will comp your room!!! Not any concern of the danger his pool had caused!! Completely outraged how he could treat something so serious so mildly. The pool water was tested at levels that were off the charts and I have the report available. My daughter a week later still has burns that are being treated and cause her pain. She also had chemical inhalation burns in her throat.

Below standard of Hampton hotels. Check in: young clerk had to remove herself from her phone to help me. King bed in ad was NOT a King. Closet: very small, no room to hang clothes. Luggage cart had broken castor's an was very hard to push. No desk lamp. Cold coffee in the Lobby. Internet was useless, unless you bought an upgrade for $4.95 per night. Breakfast: good taco bar...food not hot. Tortillas gummy...needed to be heated. Bed was comfortable, or would be zero stars. Hilton needs to make a surprise visit.

This is a brand new property. As one would expect, the facility was clean and all of the furnishings were in excellent condition. The staff was well trained and we had no problems with either check-in or check-out. The rooms were well appointed and had all of the necessary amenities. The coffee was was always available in the lobby and the quality was very good. The breakfast buffet was better than most and the area was clean and well maintained. Since we travel this road several times during the year it will be interesting to see if this level of quality is maintained over the years. But for now, this is a good stop in the road when trying to get across the vast domain called Texas.

Room was fine but some appliances were shoddy. Breakfast is typical, not bad but adequate. Staff was just fine. My chief complaint is the lighting. The large sign is currently unlit at night, and as the hotel sits way back off the roadway, it doesn't have the visibility of the neighboring Hampton Inn. There is a lit sign near the driveway, but someone ran into it rendering it useless. So I drove back and forth a couple of times before I spied the building in the dark. Fix it!

All of the staff I interacted with were pleasant & positive every time I conversed with them. The room was very clean and well taken care of. Everything was well maintained, except the below. The bed was comfortable and I slept very well. The negatives kind of grated on me at times. But considering how cheap the place was, it wasn't like I was staying at a Five Star joint, so you have to give the place a bit of slack. First, the AC was definitely "played with". No matter how cold you set it, it would run for 15 minutes and then stop for 15. It would NEVER achieve any temperature for long if it were blow 70 degrees. I'm convinced that it was set to just say F' U to any customer. The door between rooms to adjoin them was secure but it didn't keep out noise for ANYTHING. If you get one of those rooms, hope you don't get a noisy neighbor. The toilet seat was replaced and whoever was the maintenance moron picked up a local version that was plenty of sizes too small and then didn't secure it very well. Using it feels like sliding on a small skateboard across a bowl.

I rarely give one-star reviews, but based on our 2-night experience in March 2026 this place…read moredeserves no better. While the public spaces of the hotel look good, the 2 guest rooms we saw had issues. Given the mix of glowing and bad reviews I saw on the hotel's own website I have to wonder if the place has some rooms that are much nicer than others. This LaQuinta looks nice on the outside and is located near several other hotels, including a Hampton where we've previously stayed. We may have booked this place because it has a guest laundry... but I don't recall. There are a couple of restaurants within easy walking distance but there are no sidewalks to get there. This hotel and others in the area seemed pretty empty on the weekend we stayed. This wasn't surprising given Winnie isn't a touristy area and spring break was ending. We could not get into the first room we were assigned. The key cards didn't work at all. After being reprogrammed, they still didn't work. The afternoon manager tried her universal key and couldn't get in. The second room we were assigned, on the 2nd floor, took several tries to get in. The key cards didn't operate smoothly. Once we got in, the room smelled very strongly of disinfectant. We could hear a crying baby across the hall. So this room was a no-go as well. At that point I asked for a refund and we were told the room was booked through a 3rd party. While I wasn't sure that was true, we decided to try another room. This time, the card keys both worked. The first floor room was quiet and seemed clean, but showed wear and tear to walls and the floor. There was an odor similar to the 2nd room, but a bit less prominent. We tolerated it, and the 2nd night seemed better. Fortunately, the king bed was comfortable. The nightstands in our room each had 2 110V outlets, and there were also outlets on the sconces above. There was an alarm clock on one nightstand. We neglected to check it, and it went off at 6 am on our first morning. The TV worked well, and the room furnishings looked relatively new. The bathroom had a tub shower. Liquid toiletries in the shower were older bottles of Dove brand, but there was no shower gel... just 2 shampoo bottles and 1 of conditioner. There was a small bar of soap for handwashing. There were no washcloths in the room. Flushing the toilet took several tries each time. Water pressure in the shower was poor, and the temperature varied. There were very few patrons in the hotel the 2nd night we stayed, so there's no excuse for this. The tub floor was slick, and the grab bar location wasn't optimal. Breakfast was included, but the hours were extremely limited, 6-9 am, even on the weekend. The selection was familiar: powdered eggs, potatoes, and a sausage patty... plus a waffle machine for hot items. Only regular coffee or tea (Bigelow) were available, plus orange juice. The breakfast area was bright and cheerful at first glance... with some obvious issues (see photos). It's been a long time since we've stayed at a LaQuinta, and it's likely we will not choose this brand in the future. This particular hotel is a victim of poor maintenance and should definitely be avoided.

My husband said the mattress was still comfy, I couldn't tell because I now have neck pain all the time. The breakfast was less, probably because they didn't have enough guests to make the sausage and gravy, the crock pot was empty. Coffee, tea, milk, OJ, hot chocolate, oatmeal, bread, butter, jelly, small danish, muffins, 2 kinds of cereal. The coffee was burned tasting. Still an excellent value, especially if you book a week in advance. I like that the Chambers Co sheriff makes rounds. Good concrete parking lot. No highway noise. Good AC. Nice pool with water 3-5 feet deep. Chairs and tables around the pool. Chair for people with impaired mobility, to get in the pool. Lift the knob up on top of the gate and push the gate to get I to the pool area. They have a washer and drier for guests. Vending and ice machines behind the office.

We came here several times every summer for the past few years and never had an experience like this one. 1st I was quoted one price over the phone and made reservations etc only to find that the mgr was going to argue with me upon arrival. She thought I should pay more. She also told a huge lie saying that the cable was out in the whole area. Wasn't true I decided to call and ask America's first value across the street and they said that it wasn't true. They always had cable and leads me to believe they just didn't pay their bill. AFV also said they heard the same story from someone the day before. Broken furniture. Just sickens me that tradition is now going to be changed.
