Long time customer of la hacienda, we used to love them, went there today for To-go dinner for my…read morewife and I. Ordered a chicken taco salad, cheese dip and 7 tacos al- la-cartart I thought. Looked at my receipt I was charged for a full meal on 3 of the taco's and and 2 half meals on 4 tacos and then charged a to-go fee on each of the so called meals. So because each, including the taco salad was a so called meal I was charged for rice and refried beans I did not get. All in all I paid $30 for 7 tacos and $23 for a chicken taco salad and a small tub of cheese dip. I understand they are basically charging .30 cents on each star foam tub for Togo. But all 7 tacos could have fit in one tub. And to be charge for full meals while buying individual tacos. I've been there many times and never disappointed but this makes me not want to go there. On top of that after getting home 4 miles away. The crispy tacos were soaked in water from the flavorless beaf meat leaving the shells floppy and soggy, the street taco's soft corn tortillas were steamed with a nasty soggy dry grainy texture, not flat top grilled at all. The chicken taco salad had hardly any meat, no beans, but had a ton of lettuce and sour cream. The only thing that tasted good was the salsa and cheese dip. Not worth the $53.00 spent at all!!!

Ordered the lunch chicken fajitas and had so much leftover I will have an another meal from it! Chicken tender and quality cut. Husband ordered a chicken enchilada with beef taco with white sauce for the enchilada. Excellent flavor - liked the cheese sauce for the cups too and even stole some to add to my fajita! Chips were delivered hot and fresh and all the salsa we could eat! Hot salsa does give a kick and mild is totally mild and sweet. No medium salsa! Would recommend! Fairly priced for the portions for lunch and not too much more expensive for dinner.

So plating in pictures needs to look appealing. And everything I have seen here does just that. Unfortunately, the pictures don't always match the flavor. In my surf and turf plate, the shrimp and chicken were good. But my steak lacked flavor and was tuff to cut and eat for such a thin piece of meat. This led me to believe that it lacked marinating and tenderizing. The ambience here is casual, but I do see people dressed up each time I was here. It does say "Modern Mexican grill" which also leads me to believe they played with the national drink of Cuba, "Mojito" for the title of this restaurant. For those of you who don't know, Mojito's history is traced to 16th-century Cuba. Which why it was a little confusing as a Mexican grill. Although 2 servers assured me that it was Mexican, not Cuban. The chips and salsa are always good. The drinks are always refreshing, and the service has always been great. Five stars for service

If that's not good, I probably won't look further into the menu. I'm being kind in giving 2 stars here, because the salsa is completely inedible. It's obvious they make it themselves, but along with onion, cilantro and a few tomatoes (no discernible heat from any type of pepper) use tomato sauce - the amount of sugar in the sauce makes it too sweet to be remotely appealing. Chips were fairly tasty and not greasy - but what are you going to eat with them? A jar of Pace picante would have been an improvement. The lunch plate #4 ($5.50) was a taco (your choice ground or shredded beef) and an enchilada (cheese, beef, or chicken with red sauce, green tomatillo sauce, or white queso) served with beans and rice. I stuck to the standards - ground beef taco and cheese enchilada with red sauce. The ground beef taco was fine - not as bland as some versions around here, but it needed some good salsa to liven it up. And I wasn't about to put that sweet stuff on it, so...boring. The enchilada was exactly what I've come to expect - the sauce wasn't straight from a can, but didn't have that zing from New Mexico chiles or chile powder either. Meh. I will gives props to a nice room, a nice hot plate with completely melted cheese, and menu with some nice sounding selections - shrimp, ceviche, etc. But I can't get past not having any salsa to eat it with. So I totally doubt I'll ever return. The quest for a simply GOOD Mexican plate continues.

In my humble opinion this is the best local tex-mex and should be tried if that is what you're craving. Three reasons... 1) Yes the food is similar to your typical place around here BUT there's an extra effort to include homemade recipes, fresh (and I mean fresh) meats and veggies and some seriously yummy salsa. These are steps rarely taken. 2) This place is clean. Look, we've all been to the local tex-mex shop and pondered whether or not we may have stumbled into an auto garage by mistake. Los Cantaritos leaves you without concern. 3)Lunch $5.50. Free Chips and Salsa. Quality food. Friendly staff. Local management. Did I mention all this for $5.50? Stop your complaining.
