    Enchiladas verdes with chicken.
    Emily C.

My mom, son and I gave this a try after passing it 1000 times. It was fairly empty when we arrived but I'm so glad we came. The food was amazing! They have an impressive menu full of seafood, Mexican dishes, and the Mexican food you'd expect at most Americanized Mexican restaurants. My mom said the mole sauce was the best she'd ever tasted and truthfully it was good and I usually hate mole'. I ha d enchiladas verdes and they were perfect. My son loves his burrito. Sorry pics are half eaten but we couldn't wait to dive in. The salsa trio was fun, the chips were perfectly cooked/salted and I must say their ( somewhat massive) dishes were beautiful.

I ordered a seafood mix on a mocajete. And it was horrible. They only gave me two shrimps. One side of a crab. And a lot of sea food mix!!! it was horrible. Don't come unless it's a desperate thing.

Firmly in the "more is better" camp of Mexican restaurants, La Press is nonetheless a good place to grab a decently quick lunch (or brunch) at a very good value. I was recommended here by my financial advisor of all people, and while he has his standard order of a steak burrito, I couldn't help but notice that the burrito was a single line item in an enormous, wildly colorful menu (#52, in case you wanted to know) and I figured I would get a better idea of their fare with something else. I found this with huevos con chorizo, jamon o tocino, or for the English speakers around here, eggs with Mexican sausage, ham and Mexican bacon. It was served with refried beans and a smattering of Mexican rice. Also a slice of tomato, cucumber and lemon, for some reason. This tastes, as far as I was concerned, authentic. The dish wasn't jacked up with spices, but came with excellent yellow corn tortillas, and enough leftover salsa from the starter (thick, crispy corn tortilla chips) to make wonderful tacos. For $11 plus tip I was well fed through dinner, and had a nice, sweet horchata to boot. If you go the burrito route, $10 gets you the horchata and 2.5 meals on top of it. For a quick Mexican lunch, La Presa is the way to go. And I haven't even gotten a chance to sample any of the dozen-plus seafood entrées yet!

We've been to a few of the 'authentic' Mexican restaurants in the Palatine area -- Tacos El Norte, Los Arcos and El Toreo. They aren't big on decor or ambiance, but if you want a delicious Mexican meal at a reasonable price, they fit the bill. Well of all the authentic Mexican restaurants in the area, La Presa (technically Taqueria La Presa) is one of the best you'll find. The food is very tasty, the meals are big enough to split, and they have a wide selection of bottled beers. I ordered a Corona, (normally I get Modelo Especial), and it came with a frosted glass, salt on the rim and a slice of lime. Nice touch! I also ordered the ground beef burrito (I know, not too adventurous) but it was HUGE, literally as long as my forearm. I had to take half of it home. If I was more adventurous, and liked seafood, this would be the place to come often! They have an incredible selection of seafood dishes. In general this is a well kept secret just west of the Arlington Race Track / Highway 53 and just a block north of Northwest Highway on Rohlwing Road in a little strip mall.

The restaurant is small, with limited seating, but brightly decorated and immersive on the surf decor. I ordered the fish n chips, and they let me know it would be about 12 minutes, because they make everything fresh. No problema, dude. Beach Boys, surf music and other mellow tunes play overhead while you wait. It wasn't long at all, and I was presented with three (3!!!) crisply battered fish filets on a mound of seasoned shoestring fries. It was hot (prepared to order, remember), and delicious. The fries were awesome as well. I thought it was a little pricey, but the portions were large and I had plenty to take away. My fish was delish -- and I'd be glad to come back and try some of the other combos. The people who worked here were chill and friendly. Good vibrations!

This is a cute little restaurant with a few tables, window seats and seating along the wall. With the weather being nice there are tables outside too. Hubby and I wanted some seafood and we passed by Surf's Up a few times so it's long overdue for us to stop and try the food today. The owner, Lisa, was working behind the counter. She is so sweet and certainly very proud of her restaurant! We asked her for recommendations and she was happy to share some of the top preferred items of guests. She gave us time to look over the menu. I settled on the fried catfish dinner with a side of grits, greens & a roll. Hubby wanted fish and chips with a roll. Lisa told us that everything is made fresh to order so it would be about 15-20 mins. We weren't in any hurry, but we appreciated the heads up and the fact that it was all freshly made. The food arrived crispy and hot and oh so delicious! My catfish was so flakey. The grits and greens were the perfect sides to go with it. Hubs really enjoyed his fish and chips. The fries were so good, we couldn't stop eating them. Lisa also sold us on the fresh bread pudding, but we so full so we had to take it go. Just finished it tonight and it was even more delicious than she described! We will certainly be returning to try the shrimp po' boy and other items on her menu! Plus more bread pudding. Don't pass up this cute little place with delicious fresh seafood and desserts plus friendly service.

When we arrived, we didn't have a reservation, and it was before dinner time. So we got seated right away. While the menu didn't have indication of allergen, we asked about gluten free for the BBQ option - as long as there's no marination. They gave a good number of banchan but not all are gluten free. The presentation of the raw meat was theatrical in a way - they came in a platter with dry ice. The amount was also generous. Our wait staff was very attentive. She kept coming by to check on us, and half way through, she changed our grill plate. We also ordered a dessert to share. It's a great place for a date night, and special gathering over good foods

We were a little hesitant ordering the Hanjeongsik since it was our first time and the mains (buttered abalone and short rib patties) were unfamiliar to us. Our server described it as a type of meal that was served for the royal family and comes with several dishes. Theirs included kimchi pancakes, freshwater eel, smoked salmon, and more. I think the shrimp tempura could be more flavorful, but aside from that, the dishes were thoughtful and so good. The prices are also very reasonable for the quality, and the menu has great variety as well, from KBBQ to bento boxes. The restaurant itself is modern, while the food is cooked traditionally and packed with flavor. I would gladly drive from the city just to eat here again.
