Taco Shop - Taco - Tacos Near Me - Palatine, Illinois

We've had Taco Shop before when it catered a graduation party we attended, and really liked it. Today we had carryout - steak and chicken tacos, and a chicken burrito platter. The meat is high quality and nicely cooked. Rice and beans were very good as well. The thing we missed was more flavor and heat!! I'd love to get a little heat from jalapenos or spices, but it was not there. The salsa was not too hot either. We're not heat freaks by any means, but we do love some spice in our Mexican food. The burrito also had rice in it so my side of rice was probably not needed. All in all the food is good and high quality. What I'd love to have is more flavor and heat!! read more

Very friendly staff. I just went there for the first time. I had the shrimp bowl, the Jamaica Agua Fresca and a horchata all of which were good. It's a nice little taco shop. read more

The staff were super friendly and welcoming, which made me feel right at home. Looking at the menu was tough so many delicious sounding things, I had a hard time choosing! I ended up grabbing an asada burrito to go, and let me tell you, it was ready in a flash! Seriously, I barely finished paying and it was already done. I also got an horchata, it was so refreshing! I wish they had a larger size, though, because I could have easily drunk twice as much. They keep them chilled in a fridge, which is a nice touch. That first bite of the burrito? Forget about it! Absolutely incredible. I sampled all their salsas, and they were all fantastic. My personal favorites were the red and green ones. The habanero salsa had a great kick, but the flavor wasn't quite my thing. read more

We ordered catering from Taco Shop for a staff event of about 30 people, and it was fantastic! The food was fresh, flavorful, and a huge hit with our team; everyone was raving about the tacos. The delivery and setup were right on time, and communication with Sanaa throughout the process was excellent. The team was easy to collaborate with, followed up to confirm details, and made everything effortless from start to finish. We'd love to hire them again for a future event -- highly recommend! read more

Absolutely amazing experience here! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. The service truly stood out--everyone was patient, helpful, and made sure everything was perfect throughout my visit. The food was beyond delicious. You can tell everything is made fresh and with quality ingredients. Every bite was full of flavor, and the portions were great for the price. What I appreciated most is how inclusive the menu is. As someone who follows a vegan lifestyle, it can sometimes be difficult to find places with good options--but this spot really delivered. They offer a variety of vegan choices that are not just an afterthought, but actually well-prepared and full of flavor. It's rare to find a place that gets both food and service this right. Whether you're vegan or not, there's something here for everyone to enjoy. I'll definitely be coming back and recommending this place to friends and family. If you're thinking about trying it, don't hesitate--you won't be disappointed! read more

Carnitas burrito was superb! Not from the neighborhood but would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We ordered here recently for the first time and loved it! We got a variety of tacos including a kids quesadilla. The beer battered fish tacos are our favorite! We also had some vegans we ordered for which they had a slew of options for! The vegan food was all placed in a separate bag in our order (those little things matter!) and food was hot and ready. Happy with our newfound go-to taco place and will be a repeat customer! read more

It's been over half a decade since I first reviewed Taco Shop and it still is the best! The employees are awesome, the food is delicious, fresh, and always ready when ordering ahead. I love that they have many vegetarian options, especially the avocado taco, which is eons better than any other avocado tacos I've ever eaten. Great chips too! read more

Great option in Palatine. Lots of vegetarian options that aren't lacking in flavor! Welcoming staff and great customer service.

I had high expectations for this place since they have great reviews and what seems to be a large following but I can't say I was too impressed. Small seating and the tacos were good but pretty basic, they also didn't have meals where it came with comp chips when you sit or rice and beans - you have to order it all ala carte. Although the tacos are alright - you can get so much more delicious Mexican food and more bang for your buck at other spots in the area. I'm not sure what the hype is about here. read more

Food and service are excellent at a good value. Only place where a taco by itself satisfied as a meal.

We loved that they had vegan options, but the toppings were sparse. We weren't a fan of the salsas, they were not very flavorful. So our meal was pretty much tortillas and meat. Looking at the pictures on here, they look great and full of toppings, but our tacos looked nothing like these pictures. read more

The tacos were absolutely mouthwatering and full of flavor! And let's talk about their horchata--it's an absolute game changer! Creamy, rich, and perfectly spiced, it's hands down the best I've ever had. Life Hack: Put the horchata in your coffee, you won't regret it. :) read more

This place is awesome. Last night we placed massive order at the last min. Admittedly this was bordering on catering size. They graciously took the order and got everything together really quick. As well I have Slowly been working my way through the menu and haven't found a bad item yet. Keep doing what you are doing!! read more

I used to write a food blog... maybe I will restart... i ate my first Taco Shop meal tonight... whoa! I ordered for pickup (as an aside if it says ASAP then believe it.) I thought I would wait almost 30 minutes to pick up and when I got my food it was warm... not hot... warm. My fault. If I had paid attention to the 10 minute ASAP window my food would been perfectly hot. Even though it was warm only it was absolutely delicious. The perfect fried tortilla bowl was only half filled and initially I was disappointed. But, the sides of the tortilla bowl were very tall and steep. In fact, the amount of perfectly layered salad was more than enough. At one point, I thought I it was bottomless and I would never get to the end of the salad. The layers of rice, beans, carnitas , lettuce and guacamole were filled with flavor and texture all the way to the end. I personally recommend the Taco Shop with my enthusiastic 5 star Yelp rating. You will not be disappointed and I intend to eat my way through the entire menu! I may need help but I think the Freud High School Football team and me can handle it if needed. read more

The food was wonderful. And it was such a good price. Lastly the food came out so fast.

Don't let the plain name confuse you. For such a simple restaurant title, Taco Shop, actually delivers good mexican food. The ambience and vibes of this cute little place is comforting. Didn't know any lyrics to songs but I was jamming and wiggling to each song The Food. Wonderful. The tacos were all well seasoned and flavorful. Only issue I had was with the carne asada and carnitas were a tad dry, but the flavor profile was still there. Maybe I got the end of the batch since we ordered about a hour or two till closing. However, the flavors of the tacos hit the Umami, Savor and just the right amount of heat came from the added salsas. By far the Al Pastor was the tastiest, so y'all have to give that one a go. Chips and Guac... can't say much. just flat out great guacamole and salty crispy tortillas chips . nothing beats it Overall, loved the vibes, food and the staff. All very genuine people and welcoming. Would come again the next time i'm in the mood for the mexican food ‍ read more

Wow.....is what went through my head when I sunk my teeth into my first bite. Carne Asada taco - hands down the best steak taco I have ever had. They marinate it for 24 hours and trim it nicely so you do not get any chewy parts. Makes me even happier that they locally source their meat. So many things to say but I noticed this was a draft from 2019 and I never got to express how delicious this food was! And no I have to make it appoint to come back so I can finish this read more

I'm not sure why this place got so many good reviews.... I guess I'm missing something. The place is located in a strip mall, and it is a somewhat small restaurant. I would estimate maybe 20 people can dine-in comfortably. The set up is, you order at the front, where there are menus hanging overhead. The menu consisted of tacos and burritos, chips, guac, sadly no elote. Tell them your order, pay, and sit down; they serve the food. Service was great, the food though wasn't. We ordered some chips and salsa and the chips appear to be store brought. The salsa I wish was pico de gallo, and I understand that salsa and pico de gallo it are two different things, but some places have chips and salsa, where the salsa is really pico de gallo. That was somewhat of a disappointment. The salsa, in a squeeze bottle at the front counter, was bland, even for this non-spicy guy. We got our tacos rather quickly. I ordered a chicken, shrimp, and beard battered fish taco. The beer battered fish taco was probably the best, followed by the shrimp taco. I feel like chicken tacos are hard, because finding a good one is mostly miss, than hits. The chicken was somewhat dry. BATHROOM REVIEW: Located right next to the cashier, the bathroom is a single-person bathroom. It was surprisingly clean, with a urinal and a toilet. Sit or squat? Squat. read more

The best tacos in the area with a cultural fusion of flavor! Amazing vegan and vegetarian options I usually get the soy chorizo tacos and agua de jamaica. The customer service is super friendly and warm. With it being a small shop, you get small shop vibes. The Taco Shop is a small family owned take out or eat in business for tacos and burritos. There are only three small tables for eating in more suited to a quick lunch. They have excellent street tacos. Some of the best I've ever had. I usually get three. The chicken, ground beef and battered fish tacos with the works which includes onion, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and cilantro. They come with two different sauces on the side. Red sauce and green tomatillo sauce. They have homemade cinnamon sugar churros for desert. They have several different kinds of Mexican sodas. All flavors are good. Great little place for a quick carry out dinner. read more

Small place filled with friendly employees who give excellent service. Delicious and plentiful food. Purchased to go 4 tacos, 2 chimichangas, and a cup of horchata to enjoy while I waited. Everyone at home really enjoyed the food. Will definitely become a regular. read more

Tacos are rather plain tasting. Dry tortillas. Al pastor didn't pack much flavor. Had the shrimp taco as well, very little shrimp with lots of filler. Other people had the steak and said same thing. One highlight was the guacamole. read more

Discovered this place nearby the Deer Grove Nature Preserves. We were starving after walking 6.5 miles and this Taco Shop did not disappoint! Due to COVID-19, they are only doing take out. They have an dining set, but that's open if the weather is nice. I ordered the steak tacos with cilantro and onions (if you have it any other way it's a sin ;) jk!). They were delicious and authentic! I did wish the green and red sauces were spicier or had a kick to it. I also received complimentary chips along with the tacos! Very inexpensive and absolutely delicious! read more

The son or whoever was working that day tossed my change on the floor instead of handing it to me. He was really rude to me, all I did was to order some tacos. I will not recommend this place. read more

Excellent service, delicious food, everything you could ask for in a very small, counter service, taco shop. It's family owned, too. Wonderful to give business to a locally owned store of any kind. They do not serve beer, wine, or liquor - just standard Taqueria food. Their guacamole is outstanding. Their salsa is spicy and fresh. But, their Al Pastor was amazing. It was not soupy like you get in some places - I don't know if they put it on a flattop after cutting it off the spirals or what, but that little bit added so much. The reviews for Los Takitos are spot on. For a small, not fancy restaurant, they earned five stars. read more

Quick, fresh and delicious! Happily it's near us but it'd be worth the trip if it wasn't.

Truly disappointing. A 2 taco platter and guacamole/ chips, was $31!!!! Carne asada taco meat was chewy, and not seasoned or seared well. Guacamole tasted similar to a package of Sabra Guacamole with several packets of true lime powder mixed in. Another unfortunate example that suburban food and tacos are NO BUENO. Next time Im heading to Pilsen, Little Village, and Lakeview for cheaper, better quality tacos. read more

I love the food here. The salsa bar is a wonderful idea. Service is great. Love coming here for lunch.

Who can resist Tacos??? I pulled up my Yelp App to see if I could find anything to where I was working, since my training partner had lunch plans with his wife. This spot popped up as a hot, new business and had 5 stars, so it was a must go. I'm not familiar with this area at all, so when I pulled up and saw this place was in a 60s looking runner down strip mall, I got a little worried I was not in the right place. However, as I got out of my car and started walking towards the store, I realized I wasn't the only one walking towards this joint. The store front is nothing impressive, and neither is the inside of the place. It's pretty cramped and small, and reminds me of a very old cafe. There was a line 6 people deep in front of me, and 7-8 people behind me. The smell of marinated steak was pleasant, and I could feel my hunger growing. It's one line and a big sign above their grill advertising all they have to offer. Burritos, tacos, quesadillas were the bulk of it. The ordering process went fast. I got the carne asada, al pastor and carnitas taco with onions and cilantro, plus a side of rice and drink. It's all cooked to order. There isn't much seating, maybe 10 tables. I grabbed an empty spot, and my food was ready in no time. They have two bottles of sauce to use where you pick up: a tomatillo sauce and a spicy tomato based sauce. Both were decent, but the tomatillo was the best. I did enjoy my tacos but wish I had some pico added to them. My only real complaint is that I didn't taste any roasted pineapples in my al pastor, which is the reason for my star bump. The steak and pork was nicely seasoned and juicy. Nothing exceptional about the rice but it was good. Service was excellent, and you could tell they were passionate about their business. I'd certainly recommend this place. You just need to get past how run down the area looks. read more

Best. Tacos. For. Real. I love this place so much. Female owned small business and the nicest people in the world. Ignore the guy who says they "changed owners;" they haven't. They recommended the perfect amount and combination of food to satisfy vegetarians and carnivores. read more

Yum, Yum, Yum. We have come to the taco shop several times since we discovered it. They are decently priced, fast, and tasty. I love the authentic tacos and availability of red and green sauce. My favorite tacos in order are: al pastor, chorizo, chicken carnitas in that order. I would say ordering right is important, as I wasn't as impressed with the chicken tacos. The other tacos are SPOT ON, though. The rice and beans are well prepared every time, and they are a great deal. As good as this spot is, the seating may be limited depending on the time of day, so definitely plan accordingly. **Open for takeout during the quarantine** read more
