They may look different on the outside, But they're really just variations of the same place. Like mushrooms, they pop up overnight. And like mushrooms, they can be nourishing Or hallucinogenic Or fatal. Especially in Lakeside, where it could be all three. This one, however, was nourishing, on this particular trip. The size is twice as big as most others in town, and the food was above the average. Not great, but better than many others. The service was outstanding. San Diego County is a Mecca for taco shops which could be the downfall of some otherwise rather good ones. La Posta could very well be one of those. We had just beaten the dinner crowd, which was good because it took awhile to get the food. We had originally stopped elsewhere, but the line was too long. The young man that took our order was very pleasant and polite. La Posta offers a nice salsa bar with hot carrots and cold water free of charge for those dining in or waiting on a to go order. Although it took awhile, the order was served hot and fresh and just as ordered. The Carne Asada fries were loaded and came with a mammoth helping of sour cream. The rolled tacos were good amid a generous portion of guacamole and cheese. La Posta is sort of off the beaten path unless you live in the immediate area, but worth a trip if your regular joint is just too crowded. No fountain drinks, only cans. They do offer an assortment of beers too. read more

I got hooked on La Posta when I lived in Hillcrest and used go to the one there. When I moved I was happy to find they had one nearby. I've been to this location many times. It's no Lolita's, but it's good. They have an all you can eat salsa and hot carrot bar, but not all you can drink Horchata. They do bring your food to the table for you. Classy! They have a large dinning area for a Taco Shop. The decor has been redone. The kids like it. They've got a few gumball machines, but none of them are "Lil' Homies". My wife and I moved from years in Barrio Logan SD. We are now in east county,funny because there's much better MX food out here. This place is one of them,our go too. Great food great price,free chips and salsa. Big clean dining area,nice clean bathrooms and,yes AC. If you're eating MX food in SD city you're probably getting hustled. We've been here a few times for take out; mostly carne asada burritos. Today we ordered the carne asada fries. The kids really enjoyed it. I'd give them 5 stars if they offered a Senior or Military discount like other places do. As far as taste, it was pretty good and portion size was about average. Not a very good Mexican restaurant if you actually want real Mexican food.. it seems a little more Tex Mex than Mexican. The salsa there is horrible, tasted like it was canned or made to please a certain crowd that isn't used to REAL Mexican food. The portions are decent in size though and it is good for on the go snacking, but the servers should wear a head garment of some kind because we also found some hair in the food. Why is it that so many places neglect these little things? The place is a little run down and could use some upgrading to the floor and walls. La Posta is my favorite Mexican food place in the Lakeside/Santee/El Cajon area. Robertos/Albertos/Somberos have nothing on La Posta. Though, I do enjoy Cazadores... Anyway, they use the cojita cheese which is amazing, and is probably one of the only things that would make me consider giving up veganism. They also have guacamole tacos - and I tend to order these every time. As the other reviews mentioned, there is a really big dining area, and the place can be packed. Also, if you have anyone with you that isn't a big fan of Mexican food, they have burgers and fries. read more

For 5 years I listened to a friend (and old coworker) tell me how La Posta was the best ever. since he grew up in El Cajon So, now that I live in SD and he is down visiting his parents we decide to meet up before he leaves town again. So, he suggests La Posta and I of course order a cali burrito. They bring out chips and have a salsa bar. Its a simple looking place but who cares the place was clean and the service was good too. They bring out the food to your table and this burrito was like 2 freakin pounds of burrito. And, it was delish!! The meat was tender, lightly seasoned and the burrito as a whole was so good that I almost demolished the whole thing! I'm pretty sure I would have been a little too full on just half and been able to eat the rest for lunch the next day but it was so hard to stop eating. I dont even think I have been that full after Thanksgiving dinner! I will be going back the next time I happen to be that far east or the next time my buddy comes in to town. Oh heck, I may just get a really strong craving for cheap delicious Mexican food and drive out there anyway.. for only 5 bucks and to get 2 whole yummy meals out of it, it's totally worth the drive :) read more

I am new to Lakeside and was looking for a an excellent authentic soup not is a cup size but enough to feed at least 3. So I called up this place and the gentleman said " yes we have fresh meat soup really really good just made" well I'm thinking what kind of meat ? What the heck I went to check it out myself. They have good authentic Mexican food at reasonable prices. I prefer to go here than the other taco shop nearby as La Posta is consistent with the quality of food and prices are cheaper. Tonight I was disappointed in the service. My family and I came in around 9:45pm and the restaurant closes at 10:30pm and the young man told us that they were only taking to go orders. I found this gem through Yelp & the reviews were accurate. I had the chicken salad bowl. I should've split it with someone; it was generous - especially with chicken. The meat was tender & moist, lettuce crisp & a good size cup of guacamole on the side included. They gave me a basket of chips while I waited. We ate here 6yrs ago and came back recently on a family vacation. The food was as good as it ever was. The prices aren't bad to for the amount of food you get. I really wish a place like this would open in North Carolina. Their enchiladas are so good I couldn't talk while eating them. I was sad while taking the last bite. Really enjoy this place with friends that live in El Cajon. We have visited on a few occasions and all have been pleased and satisfied. I have had their excellent fish tacos combo, menudo and most recently their carne asada tortilla bowl. Order at the counter and help yourself to the salsa bar for great "warm" carrots (not too hot). They bring you chips and for your salsa bar and then bring your food. I have found the food reasonably priced, prompt service with a smile and in a small strip mall. Good food and good service. I eat a lot of mexican food and this is near the top. I got a carne asada burrito and the meat was good quality and the other ingredients tasted fresh. It was good size. Reading the other reviews led me here expecting something better than my Alberts from across the street. Unfortunately for me, they were nothing compared to Alberts and I would say they have the worst food that I have ever had in San Diego. My wife ordered the shredded beef tostada and I picked the two fish taco plate with rice and beans. The beef on the tostada was so dry that I would have preferred beef jerky. The fish tacos should have been golden brown, but were simply just brown. They were so overcooked that even the fish inside of the fried batter had dried out.
