Ordered take out and had a carne asada burrito. It came with rice and beans. It was really good. I also ordered a side of fries and they were better than I expected. We just so happened to be in the Eau Claire area running an errand, and before we drove back home, we were feeling a bit peckish. We decided to check this place out for lunch since it wasn't too far from our current location. The restaurant sits in the middle of a strip mall, so parking was very easy and convenient. Inside the restaurant, a mini market selling basic Mexican ingredients and pantry goods is connected to it. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted promptly and picked out a table to sit at. We came during lunch time on a weekday and there was quite a bit of people in the dining area (it wasn't packed, but for a weekday lunch rush it was fairly busy). We ordered the ground beef chimichanga and beef tongue tacos. The chimichanga was fried perfectly and the ground beef was very well seasoned. It was hands down one of the best chimichangas we've ever tasted. The tacos were also delicious. The beef tongue was very tender and the salsas that came with our meal paired excellently with the tacos. I also very much enjoyed the seasoned radish that came with the tacos as an extra condiment because it gave the tacos more crunch and texture. Overall, the food was excellent. Service was fast and very friendly. The dining atmosphere was casual and it reminded of the hole-in-the wall places I used to frequent during my childhood. As a California native, I approve. So far this has been the best Mexican restaurant (in the Midwest) that we've tried. Would highly recommend checking this place out if you are in the area. read more

No places in town serves sopes or tortes, except this place. Every single Mexican restaurant I've been to around here does not have those and I'm so happy to have found this place. I went to this place due to the great reviews and this place did not disappoint. The food was excellent! Not many restaurants have sopes so I was super excited to order them! I love how they conserved the salsa dips by only bringing out small portions (they bring out more when you run out) to help cut their waste! All three salsas were delicious! There was a traditional salsa, a green lime salsa and an avocado sauce salsa! The sopes were delicious!!! I got chicken as my meat preference. I loved how they used real Mexican crema cheese! I often go here for breakfast. I've eaten at most of the Mexican restaurants here in Eau Claire and I can say that this is the best place for huevos rancheros. Their street tacos are also very good. I like it here. It feels authentic . The dining room isn't cozy but it's clean and festive, I get enchiladas and sometime a shrimp burrito and am never disappointed. Around 5pm I ordered delivery for 6pm, but got my meals around 7:20pm, just awful. If I was in the restaurant and that happened, I would have walked out. Anyways, I ordered: Chicken Gorditas, Pork Rinds in Green Sauce Sopes, Tamatillo Salsa (8 oz), Extra of any Salsa (2 oz), Extra of any Salsa (2 oz), Extra of any Salsa (2 oz) As you can tell I got one of each of their salsa's, and I have to say they were all bad except for the red one. Unfortunately the tamatillo was the majority salsa and so I kept trying it but man was it unsatisfactory. I enjoyed the chicken gorditas but it was lukewarm when I ate it. My wife had the pork rinds and she liked them, though when I had it the texture wasn't my thing. Yelp, you failed me! 4.5 stars is not even close! The meal started off promising with decent margaritas. Have you EVER been to a Mexican restaurant that didn't serve chips and salsa? Well, T la P did not. When we asked for some they brought a basket of moderately fresh chips and three TINY bowls of salsa (literally, two spoonfuls in each tiny bowl). That was too bad because the salsa was pretty good. Chicken chimi came with high reviews from my teenage son (unreliable). The beef burrito got terrible reviews from my husband. My mix fajita was below average. The worst part of the experience was the service. Everyone at my table was half way through their meals when the waitress asked if I had ordered. What?!? She is in need of some retraining:: never delivered hot sauce my hubs ordered, never delivered the sour cream to my friend, never brought water to anyone, never checked in on us (we needed drinks, I needed my meal). Really great example of horrible service. Terrible meal. Terrible service. Do not go here. The reviews are not reliable. HOW HAS IT EARNED 4.5 stars? There are many places in EC for Mexican food, and I tried this one based on the reviews. I think it's a decent place, but there are certainly better in the area. Terms of the place it looked pretty dirty on the walls, but the floors and tables were fine. Queso dip was just melted American cheese thinned out with milk. If you are looking for the most authentic Mexican food in the city of Eau Claire, this is where it's at. They start you out by giving you chips and three different dipping sauces. One is this cool avocado stuff, one is red salsa, and the other is the BEST SALSA VERDE OF ALL TIME. I ordered the chicken chimichanga and I was very satisfied. Lilly's review got it right. After watching the restaurant open, redecorate something has changed. Last night, stopped in for a meal. Haven't been there for a while. The menu has gotten more "glam" with colors, categories. I feel like they went to a graphic designer who wanted to spruce up visuals of the menu. The choices are standard American version of Mexican/Central American food, but the restaurant has dumbed down the menu. My gut instinct is that the original owners are not involved any more. They either sold or remain as background owners. The core staff I remembered all all gone. What a shame. The volume of food has definitely been reduced. My dining companion had the the ground beef enchiladas. Two very small enchiladas with an unpleasant cheese sauce on them. Tasted canned. The ground beef was just plain old boring. There was no side of lettuce, tomato, salad stuff. Enchiladas are usually smothered in some delicious red sauce with cheese on top. These failed in so many ways. My carnitas enchiladas were only slightly better. They do carnitas well and I managed to realize that I had a choice of sauce (I chose salsa verde), but still not complex like the food used to be. I asked for all beans. Maybe 4T. of beans were on that plate. They used to serve caldo de pollo (chicken soup), mojarra frita (fried tilapia), caldo de res (beef soup). I inquired. Only on the weekend. The salsa and chips still excellent. But now they only bring out tiny bowls of the salsas. My tamarindo was good if a bit too much sugar and not enough tamarind pulp. Instead of staying true to their culinary roots, the owners have leaned towards catering to what they think are the basic tastes of the residents here. I vote for a much more hispanic menu with wonderful sauces, moles, soups and the like. Will I go back? I'm gonna think twice. read more

I'd heard from several friends that this was now the best Mexican food in town. I had checked it out a couple of years ago just after they opened. I was not all that impressed then. It was quite basic, no decor, food about what I expected. I didn't understand the enthusiasm of my friends. I went back today. What a difference! They've done remodeling and decorating, making the space much more inviting. I found a table, and the server was there immediately with a menu, tortilla chips, and three different dips - a mild, but fresh-tasting traditional tomato-based salsa; a salsa verde; and a creamy avocado-based sauce with a slight kick to it. I ordered enchiladas with carnitas filling, covered - on the advice of the server - with salsa verde. The enchiladas were delicious, and the salsa was amazing. It was fresh and complex, with a beautiful brightness to it. Perfect with the pork carnitas. I can never resist flan for dessert, so I ordered some. It was perfect - smooth, silky, lightly sweet. Straight forward, honest mexican food. Not your typical Amer Mex. If you want taco bell, go to taco bell. If you want great mexican street food, come here. 1) Taco's are meat, onion and cilantro on double corn tortillas. No lettuce, no cheese, no tomatoes. If you want that amer mex stuff, or flour tortillas, just ask. 2) They have straight forward Torta's - no real crazy tortas with hot dogs and such, but a great sandwich 3) Burritos, chimichangas and Taco salad are more typical amer-mex with lettuce, cheese and crema 4) Salsa's to die for - and not spicy - at most, medium. The light green sauce - super great - It is a boiled jalapeno and onion sauce, blended with corn oil. They make it so sometimes it is mild, sometimes closer to medium. No avocado. They do have a homemade hot sauce - you have to ask for it. 5) Great real mexican drinks including Horchata and Tamarindo. Mexican coke. Good selection of mexican beers. 6) Everyone speaks english...pretty well. Practice your spanish if you like - there english is better than your spanish, but hey, practice is good for you.. 7) They won't rush you out the door - when your done - walk up to the register - some one will meet you there (eventually) and you can pay. Here's the deal - great basic mexican food. Authentic. If your new to real mexican, start with the buritos, chimis or taco salad. If you like real mexican food - go for the taco's or tortas.
