We called for a reservation and they said 8:30.. perfect. We came in, they took our drink order.. it came out very quickly! We then ordered food. That took a but longer and maybe 5 of our people they forgot. BUT they asked again what the entree was and our people had it in front of them in a matter of minutes. I am very sorry to leave this review as I have been a customer of Cancun Mexican Grill since they opened in the old Hardee's building in Eau Claire. But unfortunately, I will not be going back and it's not because of the food nor the service which are absolutely phenomenal I am not going back because of their credit card fee. I strongly feel that when a restaurant post their prices that should be what a customer pays. I also feel if the restaurant wants to give a discount to people using cash that is totally understandable. But to up charge people who use credit cards is just not right. I feel most people likely pay when they're at a restaurant using their credit cards. Statistics show that when people use a credit card to pay for their meals they are likely to order more and tip more than when using cash. I know go to restaurants that post the cost of the meal on their menu and then when you get the bill, they show what the price is but then they also show the discount they pay w cash. read more

We came here for dinner and the free chips and salsa are great! Original red chunky (not spicy but there are multiple hot sauces and dishes to mix if you please) and a white creamy salsa I've never seen before. I couldn't put a finger on the taste - different but not bad. We got a pitcher of margaritas, classic on the rocks. It was a little too sweet for my preference, could have used more lime, but a great price for the amount we got. We got 2 orders of 3 meat fajitas for 4 people (they give you an insane amount of food) and ordered extra tortillas right away. I love that you can build your own with the beans, rice, lettuce, fresh tomatoes, sour cream, and meat. The shrimp was my favorite but the steak, chicken, and chorizo were very good too. We were all stuffed to the brim when dinner was over. Great classic Mexican place - nothing too fancy but great value and good food. read more

Favorite Mexican restaurant in town. Good food, excellent service and the interior is beautiful.

Overall a pretty good meal! The plate pictured was their "single" order which they also do "double" that. In my plate I was able to get 6 pretty packed Fajitas out of it which was super filling! The steak was pretty good as well and had a good amount of onions and peppers and everything mixed in as well. However, not much flavor unless you add sauce or something. They give you another side plate of rice, lettuce, beans, pick which all help as well! Overall, very good portions for what you order and would rate this a solid 7.8/10! read more

Stars are not reflective of food Beware the restaurant is on Hastings and not Highland The address needs updating. We went to pick up food and the building was dark so we thought it was maybe at the other location and it was not so we had to go back and then we navigated to it. We ordered two enchiladas de mesa to go. They were cold, like just from the refrig, cold, there were no tomatoes or sour cream. There was one container of sauce, and a container of a kind of ranch dressing, to be shared by two. I would not recommend this restaurant under any circumstance. read more

Great and very quick service here as usual, but you must try the Molcajete dish this month, with more than enough for two to share. I hope they add this to their regular menu--it's different enough from a fajita, to warrant its own special place on our dinner table next time we stop. I was with a group of friends and all of our stomachs were growling, and this place was recommended by some of them. With it being my 11am on a Saturday, my biggest concern was getting a bloody mary and boy did I get one. It was HUGE, plus it wasn't too spicy (because I'm a wimp). Just like a lot of Mexican restaurants you get complimentary chips with salsa. Well they also served queso dip with the chips. OMG, just a perfect blend of creamy cheese-ness. Honestly I could of just ate that with my bloody mary. The menu is pretty extensive that it's almost intimidating especially if you're not familiar with Mexican food. I was surprised to see a separate vegetarian section which super nice for those herbivores. What caught my eye was the seafood section and I ordered the Seafood Vallarata...two wraps with shrimp and crab drizzled in the same cheese sauce that we got with the chips. I was super happy with my choice. Definitely wished I could have got a third wrap with my meal. Our group was almost twenty people, and I can totally understand if the service would be a little slower. Not the case this time. They were pretty prompt with getting the drinks and the food. From what I could tell, no one had any big issues with the food or service. I would consider going there again if I was in Eau Claire. read more

Has anyone else noticed that the service has totally gone down hill since they've moved into the new location? It's super slow and the staff make tons of mistakes. The hosting staff are rude and I've witnessed them making snide remarks about customers. I used to love this restaurant so much. I'm not sure what happened? I wonder if the owners ever read these. For me: Cancun is very generic as far as taste goes. Everything seems relatively bland, but it is exactly what you should expect from a franchised Mexican restaurant. The prices are fair, there is more than enough food with each entree order, but it's nothing that will take your breath away, or make you crave more. If you want something authentic and are in the area: I'd just fly down to Casa Mexicana in Chippewa Falls. read more

This in my opinion is the BEST Mexican like diner you can find in the Eau Claire area. At first you'll find out that the queso and chips that they serve you right away is one of a kind. The service is outstanding, very, very friendly people that take pride in doing their job to satisfy you as the customer. The price range is perfect, not to expensive. I was in town visiting family and my brother and nephew wanted to take me out for dinner. Having a craving for Mexican my nephew suggested Cancun. Ok I live in San Francisco where there is a Mexican restaurant on every corner, almost. And for a Mexican restaurant in EC is also a strike against it. I ordered the seafood burrito which came with refried beans, and get this potatoes? Like potatoes? No rice and also no side salad. I also ordered a strawberry margarita turns out more like a slushy. I noticed that the margaritas are a premade slushy drink they just add the booze. Not good. Service was so-so. Dessert was ok. But as I mentioned it being EC added an extra star. If you have had real Mexican you will never touch this stuff again. Go to Taco Bell instead. Wasn't impressed with the service. Waitstaff kind of rude. read more

We recently visited the new Cancun location and ordered a meal. The meal wasn't the same as many other meals we have had. Our server was not friendly and helpful. I asked a male server why my food was missing part of my order he looked at me funny and walked away not even doing anything else. The server we had walked by once never asked how our meal was! Then she brought the check! We got our order boxed up and took it home and ate it, doctored up the next day. We probably will not visit that location again. Oh my... the Nachos de Mesa are *amazing*. I have never ordered anything else because I can't get over how good they are. However, if whatever you order doesn't come with a side of refried beans, make sure you order some! UNBELIEVABLY good. I mean, come on; they're just beans. But they make them amazing. Also- the queso blanco sauce is worth the additional cost to eat with your chips. One of my favorite parts? If you call ahead for take out, they're usually ready to pick up in 5-7 minutes. This place is hands down the best Mexican restaurant in Eau Claire. Their food is fast cheap but loaded with flavor. It's so different from anything else I have ever had at a Mexican restaurant. The servers are always very kind and entertaining, there is a sense of pride they have there. Their's lots of room the restaurant is beautiful, it has nice seating and space. The rice is hands down the best wild rice I've ever had and the cheese they put over everything is amazing. the appetizers are all very good and not tiny portions. They have bottomless chips and salsa along with some ranch sauce that is to die for. I've never seen desert like they have here anywhere else, it's very unique.
