Good seafood and very affordable food. The soup broth is very delicious. Also the Michelada's are excellent.

When I received the food it was initially bland didn't really have flavor to it, and halfway through eating my fish I notice this stringy texture not in the rest of the food, when I pulled it out it had a worm like texture very stringy, and it wasn't moving but would move strangely as I tried to examine it. I called over my server and they tried to tell me it was part of the fish vein but after researching it I found that this is a worm that can make you sick if ingested alive, they were very insistent of proving to me it wasn't a worm the managers were very passive aggressive after I told them what I had found and they even brought out a raw fish and tried to prove it to me by showing a white part that was obviously not the same, will not be returning here and would not recommend. read more

I order the fish platter with rice instead of fries only because I don't like the texture on their fries. Fish has a good fresh taste to it and the pupusas they have are good too. Service is always good and if they get real busy just wave them down and they will respond. The place usually has their TVs on to play any sports going on. I am going to post the most recent menu for prices and food selection read more

Not a bad little place to stop for lunch. Fried fish two shrimp fries for 11 bucks not too bad. The papoose is a pretty decent however the waitress does not speak English and does not pay attention to detail. You have to ask about four times to get a refill of water, no napkins or utensils when you ask she just waves and walks on by. I had to get my own stuff. Some of the platters look pretty good however the fact the service is horrible doesn't mean much if you can't get your food read more

Pretty good food. The name implies seafood which they do have in spades. They also have straight up Mexican food as well. We had the lunch specials of fried fish fillets and the combo. The combo is two shrimp fried and two fried filets. The lunch specials are $10.49 from 11am - 2pm. Closed on Tuesdays. You have a choice of two sides. The usual: slaw, fries, salad, up charge for baked or onion rings. The plates are served with tartar sauce, a tasty cocktail sauce and lemon wedges. Our server was in training and doing a pretty good job. Go there. read more

Pupusas and the salvi tamales weren't good at all. It tasted like it's been frozen for a long time then they reheat it. I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

I have been going to this restaurant since they first opened and it was always good. But now things have changed. The fish is so thin, and it almost seems they get one filet and slice it in half. Unfortunately, I stopped going to this restaurant because it seems they're cutting corners and raising prices read more

Great service and Great food, the food is always hot and fresh the service is fast and very nice

The service was mediocre and they would forget what we had gotten when there wasn't a LOT of customers. The food was okay until I ordered the Fajitas Nachos which in my opinion were terrible, the meat tasted like I was eating straight up flavorless plastic and way too chewy. read more

I don't know how they do it. Making delicious fried fish without it being greasy and heavy. I crave this stuff. The sides could use some work. Example-the coleslaw is just shredded cabbage with no dressing. The rice is good, though. read more

I have been going to La Playa Sea Food Restaurant for years. I was paying for two plates was around 32.00 and change but it has gone up to almost to 50.00 for two plates. When you ask why the price hike, the answer like in every restaurant is always the same..."BECAUSE OF COVID!" Covid is over and done with and surely the fish did not catch covid. All businesses got a taste of what price gouging brought them and now they do not want to go back to the old prices. All I can say is that restaurants that charge exuberant amounts for each plate will soon go the way of Red Lobster and others that have had to close their doors. No one like to have their eyes poked, and money does not grow on trees. I will no longer patronize La Playa Sea Food Restaurant. read more

Pupusas 10 out of 10! Tamal de Elote 10 out of 10! Cocktail de Camaron 10 out of 10 just kidding eight out of 10!

Definitely do not recommend. We got a plate that was 21 bucks. We added three shrimp and it came out to 40 bucks. Lady said the charge almost 4 bucks for each shrimp. (She couldn't find the proof on the menu. We also ordered chips and salsa and did not receive it. I go to nice places. I do not mind paying good money for good food. The food was just not that good. read more

I hadn't found a place in San Antonio that makes decent El Salvadorian food until today. I'll have to come back for more of La Playa's offerings, but today I sampled their platanos fritos (fried plantains) and although I would've preferred that they be a bit crispier they definitely are worth coming back for. I opted for the fish tacos, and was surprised that the fish was fried not grilled. I may have just overlooked the description in the menu, but decided to just go with the flow and was pleasantly surprised. They topped the fried fish with a little lettuce, diced tomatoes, and a whopping slice of avocado. The dish comes with a side of rice and a cilantro sauce. All of the above were delicious, and filling! The prices are reasonable, all four meals plus the platanos came out to just over $30, so no complaints there. I'll be back to try more of this restaurant's menu, but for now I'll leave it at a 3-star review and hope for a 5-star experience next time. read more

Awesome place. If you're here for great food in a simple environment, this is your place. If you are here to see and be seen and pay high dollar for your meal, this is not your place. Some of the other reviews indicated the service was slow and we did experience the same thing, however not being in a hurry to eat and run it was fine with us. Every dish we had was delicious and we will definitely be returning to continue to work our way through the end massive menu. There were 8 of us and each ordered different items and everyone loved their meal. Can't wait to go back! read more

La Playa on west avenue is not worth it anymore. We ordered a family order to go we got sick from the fish & shrimp dinner. Their fish is very thin & small in size compared to what you used to get before, price is higher & less fish plus quality has gone down. We do not recommend this restaurant. Went inside during busy time of the day & there was only 2tables being served. The place was empty compared to last year. read more

This place is authentic and has great seafood with great portions. I personally love their caldo de pescado (fish stew) with a filet of fish. I prefer the actual fish to their frozen one, yes there is a taste difference. I would like to try their oysters but last time I was there there was no oysters. Anywho...great food and good service at a decent price. read more

I hate eating there but I always order the family catfish meal Togo and it's the best and fresh and fries are so good so is the coleslaw

Was in the mood for some pupusas so I went here. At first, since I'm in a wheelchair it was very convenient and had 2 spots I can park in, the only down side was the hill but not complaining! When we go in we seat ourselves and within 5 minutes we had chips and salsa! I tried the camarón y queso pupusas and I can tell you I will definitely be coming back! They were less than $3 each and they have specials from 11am-3pm for a meal and 2 sides! The best part was definitely the beer I had it was smooth and not too bitter and it's from El Salvador. An amazing meal for less than 20$!! read more

I want to give this place a great review for cleaniness, service, and fresh chopped vegetables but not sure I can for flavor of food. They had a large menu with daily specials. My mom wanted to eat some fish so I looked on Yelp for some recomendations in the area we were in and not to familiar with, this came up. The place was very clean. There were patrons inside as we arrived but as we were leaving, there was a line and the place was filling up! Our server was terrific, she checked on us regularly and our food was served in a timely manner. They offer chips and salsa for the table, salsa was passable. My mom ordered Sopa de Marisco (with out bone) and there were no bones in it so that was good but she said it lacked the full flavor of seafood. She also had grilled fish and shrimp, which were ok, but also lacking in flavor. The side salad was made of super fresh romaine lettuce and freshly chopped carrots. The slaw was good, it was made of fresh chopped cabbage that still had a crunch to it and not all over soggy. Their tarter sauce was really good, I even dipped my chips in it! The server said they make it fresh in the resturant. I had a fish taco with fresh chopped lettuce, tomatoe, and avocado. It came with a side of cilantro sauce which was watery and tasteless. However, there was missing from the overall taste of the taco. Couldn't put my finger on it but my mom said it just didn't taste like fish, and I'm not sure what it was but I didn't finish it. read more

I ordered A large Ceviche, they came back with a shrimp cocktail instead. When I told the waitress it's the wrong food item she even got stunned herself and said "you're right". When she turned to return my food to have it corrected one of the kitchen staff members you can tell wasn't having it. So he bullied her into saying "no that's how the ceviche is that's how we make it here" So she turns around and gives me the same food. She knew it was wrong , but rather than face the kitchen crew and have them make me ceviche. She gives me back the food and says that's how we make ceviche here. Sorry about that. I explained to her, never in my entire life have I seen ceviche that looks identical to a shrimp cocktail. She kept saying she was sorry but that it was ceviche. I didn't feel like arguing so I ate the food. Problem is they charge you first before you even get your food. So once you pay there's no way to return the food. read more

I was excited to read from reviews that this place has pupusas. I couldn't find a decent place in San Antonio that makes them. I'm from Maryland and they have tons of Pupuserias, so I was upset I couldn't find any in San Antonio. Anyways, I ordered the pupusas (revueltas and shrimp w/ith cheese) and they were pretty good. Thick and melty goodness inside. I also had the fried plantains with creme and enjoyed that very much. FYI the pupusas take about 10-15 minutes to make. I'll be back mainly for the El Salvadoranean dishes and try a typical dish next time with the pupusas! read more

FOOD POISONING!!! Do not even plan on dining here I went to eat here about a couple days back and I received food poisoning from their oysters. When I asked the cashier where their oysters came from she had no idea where they were being exported from. I then told her to ask the kitchen staff to find out the origin of the oysters and absolutely no one knows where they come from. I had to be hospitalized and experienced every food poisoning symptom "abdominal cramps" "diarrhea" intense vomiting" and dehydration I had to be given electrolytes intravenously because I would throw up anything that I would eat FIRST AND LAST TIME I EAT HERE read more

The fish was pretty good, though it needed a touch of salt, in my opinion, and the shrimp was a very large size. The stuffed crab was good, but I would have liked a touch more breading in it.
