So it was Sunday night, quarter to nine and there were the 3 of us expats, desperately hungry and wandering around Woluwe Saint Lambert square, hoping that a restaurant would be open and have space.
My first choice and regular go to place Pinocchio was closed, but we spotted lights shining at La Piazza and so tried our luck. They could seat us immediately and so we were ushered into a huge dining space (the restaurant doesn't look so big from the outside). Our waitress didn't speak English that well, but we managed to work our way through, and she was very good at giving us separate checks, which my two dining companions needed for their business expense forms.
So all three of us decided to get the same thing (independent of each other) which was mushroom pizza (€11) and shared a 1L bottle of water (€8 -ouch!!!). The pizzas took like 45 mins in coming but luckily we got served some bread and butter and some excellent olives which made the wait bearable.
When the pizzas came, they were pretty good - nice crust, decent amount of mushrooms (but only button mushrooms - no mix of fungi which was what I was expecting) and great cheese. What I really loved was the spicy oil they served - it was a good level of hot!
So was pleasantly surprised and now need to find an excuse to go back and try some more varieties of pizza! read more
