Pizza was delicious! Yes, they do have a gluten free pizza crust and I believe they have some gluten free pasta options. I believe it was the owner who was checking on tables at the end of our meal. Very friendly and interested how our meal was and what we ordered. They only complaint I have is the waiter didn't check on us after he brought our food. We had to ask another waitress to refill our water and she did quickly and happily. He could have just been having a bad day. We will be back! read more

From the food to the service we were very pleased! We had been told by several people to check this place out and finally did on Saturday. Amazing! There was a man, not sure if he was the owner or not, but he greeted us as we walked in and checked on us a few times, even striking up conversation with us about what brought us in. Driving around the country and stopped to see the sights of Springfield, Illinois and stumbled across this place. If you have a favorite Italian restaurant in your hometown and miss it while you are away then this place is for you ( if you don't have a great place for Italian where you live then move here ). Friendly service and a great selection. Lunch for us was calamari, a pizza with toppings of our choice, and a glass of chianti ( ok, two glasses - don't judge ). We stopped by last Thursday for an early dinner. We had the cheese balls, I believe my wife had the Trapanese and I had a small pizza. Food was amazing and every single employee in the restaurant made sure we had everything we needed. We were even treated to a tour of their new party room by an incredibly kind young man. Came here with my partner yesterday and the food was absolutely fantastic! Ambience is extremely nice and chill, it is a bit confusing when you enter for the first time because you order at the register and then get a number and then sit down at a table, other than that the appetizers we got (The meatballs with ricotta and the fresh baked bread were absolutely the best meatballs we have ever eaten!) Our entrees were good as well! We ordered the rotini with pesto and the chicken Alfredo, the pesto was a thousand times better than the Alfredo, but we will definitely be back! read more

It was actually past their closing time by a few minutes when we walked up. We arrived from the west coast so we were on a different time zone. The graciously offered to make us a pizza to go. It morphed into having us sit and serving drinks. Fortuitously- they had someone back out of a pizza order - perfect for us! It was really good- freshly baked pizza. A win- win all around! Besides the food being delicious, the thing that stood out was the customer service. The whole staff was professional and engaging, but not to the point of being annoying. We went there for lunch after visiting the Lincoln museum based on a local recommendations. The lunch menu is great! And my son loved his pasta and ice cream, he already asked to go back. I visited here with my wife Sunday night as we were passing through Springfield. We shared a pizza along with some pasta and salad and they provided us with some bread to go along with it and while I'm not particularly crazy about Italian food we both greatly enjoyed everything we had ordered. The inside was clean and we were warmly greeted at the door. Staff was friendly and pleasant to chat with. The sauces are made in-house and the bread was served warm and was an instant hit for us. Of particular note was their pesto- one of the dishes we ordered was the Fusilli Al Pesto and myself, again not a huge fan of Italian, would rate this as one of if not my favorite basil pestos. The wife mentioned that it was probably due to it being a milder pesto than most and I'm inclined to agree. She's a pesto lover and enjoyed it as well though I could see some people being disappointed with the pesto instead. Other reviews here mentioned confusion and frustration with seating and ordering and we had noted this and it all made sense when we visited- the place is set up to order at the counter but they'll gladly seat you at a table as they did with us. That being our only real complaint our visit was a great experience and we will likely visit again if we're ever passing through the area. read more

Had a really good meal at La Piazza last night. It was my first time to this unassuming spot just north of Maldaner's and I would definitely go back. Had the calamari appetizer and enjoyed the fact that the breading was light and you could taste the squid. Spilt a pizza with eggplant and garlic and the crust was nice and the flavor was excellent. Was not in the mood for meat, but it looked like they had some interesting pizzas on the menu. My father had the linguini Alfredo and it was excellent. That's always a risky order but his dish was well-prepared. The only miss was the cannoli. Not terrible, but the shell was a little tough. They had a rainbow cake that looked great and will be my dessert order next time. Service was friendly. I recommend La Piazza if you're in the mood for casual Italian in downtown Springfield. read more

So we've heard about this place and drove by more times than I can count. Finally decided to give it a try. Had to get curbside pickup since we're going through the Covid19 shutdown.
