The owner, Fred (Alfred) is a friendly swiss man who must be in his 80's. He has a thick swiss accent, but that only makes sense considering the name of the store! During my discussion with Fred, I found out that he started working with meat in the mid 60's. He started the Matterhorn Meat Shop in 1975 and has been doing it ever since. He told me that he got into the business because he enjoyed doing it, not because of the money! I was excited to try a get a feel for the quality here, so I decided to trying a little bit of several items: Jerky ($16/95/lb): Very good. He keeps it frozen, but it's been great once it's thawed. It's a bit on the thicker side, but I'd get some again. Jerky is always expensive, but this seemed pretty reasonable. Gothaer Zervelat - It's basically a german salami. It's an oblong shape and has a pretty good smoke flavor to it. If you're into salami, try some of this! Knockwurst - I haven't tried it yet, but I'm told that its the swiss version of a hot dog. It looks similar to a brat. Spicy Sausage - A bit milder than I would like, but delicious! Mild Sausage - Delightful! A fairly standard sausage, but worth trying. Landjaeger - Its quite a bit different that the other ones that I've had. Based on my experience here, I can't imagine that this is anything but 100% authentic. They are pretty big, but the flavor is mild and worth trying. Bring cash - I'm not sure if he accepts credit cards or not. I think that his register is the same one that he had in 1975, which is awesome! My only regret is that I didn't discover the Matterhorn Meat Shop earlier. This is undoubtedly on it's way to becoming one of my favorite shops around!

My family has been eating these very sausages for as long as I can remember and it's always been a treat. I can honestly say that I have been eating these same sausages my whole entire life. My family doesn't just shop for dinner here, we pack our freezers! My mom will order several pounds the smoked German sausage when she's in town and fly them back home to Texas. Are they the best in the world? Probably not, but being a classic dinner here and there throughout my 40 years on this earth and having grown up in the Yakima Valley makes them the best in my world. We were so glad after getting some of their wonderful pepperoni and other fine meats . This is a great little mom and paw type of store. We actually met the grandson. Who was there late on a Saturday and let us in to get our selections. The pepperoni is exceptionally moist compared to some of the others I have had and I'm a bit of a pepperoni connoisseur so I highly recommend this great little store.

All the meats and bones typical to a Mexican dinner table at good prices. The bakery (panaderias) here has all the classics like concha, empanadas, piggies, bolillos, etc. The hot food section has a variety of tasty looking meats stewing away, such as barbacoa, carnitas, chicken, nopales. They also serve hot tamales, sopes, enchiladas, burritos, Chile relleni, taquitos, soups, shrimp cebicbe, salsas, champurrado and more! Their plate and family meals are a crazy good deal. Admittedly, the hit food left something to be desired but for the price and service, can't really complain. (The tamale I got was a bit dry and needed a but more flavor, but it was toward evening and each tamale was hefty for $2 a piece. Rice and beans hit the spot.) Manuel later stated that the employee no longer worked there and they don't recall where it went after putting it behind the register? I asked if they can check the camera's and they stated you would not be able to tell from the footage? He kept switching up the story, this just goes to show the type of employees they have along with the management.
