But when you continuously get outdated boxed food or sour grape grapes or fruit that is rotten the money starts to add up that you spend here. I love this grocery store because the people are all very kind to you and you get used to seeing them. But they need someone to do quality control when they bring in the fruit and vegetables. One out of three times the fruit is rotten or un edible. Please people check dates on boxes and check the fruit before you buy it.

Modesto does it without hesitation . So I got that's my go to now . Also they're much more polite and they don't ever close the deli early like Turlock has done several times .

On two separate occasions, I was looking for items that were not on the counter. One lady found me blue cheese in the back. The other guy looked around for okra, but they didn't have it. He didn't mention that they had it at one time. I love the giant avocados and mangoes. If you're a Stan state student or employee with an ID, you also get 10% off on Wednesdays. I like this little store. I always find something new. And I am treated like a valued customer.

They were also having their 2nd annual ribs competition so I needed to pick-up ribs & stuff to participate. O_o Luckily, I have an easy go-to brine that doesn't require much. I'm not too familiar with Turlock & there were a couple of grocery stores near her place, & choose Raley's (also recommended by my cousin). It was a pretty large market with a sizable parking lot. There were plenty of shopping carts lined up by the entrance but no sanitizing wipes, then I found some inside the market. :-) Either the customers are conscientious about returning the shopping carts to their collection points or the Raley's staff are on the ball for gathering the carts...because there were no stray carts, which means I don't have to worry about my car getting dented. :-O It was a huge relief being inside because it was hot, hot, hot in Turlock. Whew! The market is pretty well-stocked & organized, but I'm not used to it so it took me awhile to find the ingredients that I needed. Spareribs were on sale (yippee!!) as well as corn on a cob (5 for $1.00), & a few more ingredients for the brine: apple cider vinegar & bay leaves; my cousin had the rest of the spices so I didn't have to break the bank. The prices are mostly comparable to my local markets with some of our usual staples fared higher here. I liked that their produce looks fresh & are unbruised, & I don't see flies hovering over them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Our cashier was friendly & welcoming... she asked if we were going to watch the fireworks or if my kids will play with them (nope, they're still too little). I replied that I'm visiting so wasn't aware of any fireworks (it's banned in our area). I packed up everything, checked the receipt (got all the sale discounts but still a small chunk of my wallet), & was off. My ribs grilled without a hitch, though I didn't have enough time to brine it (only 12 hours instead of 24), & managed to tie for 2nd. It wasn't until I got home that I looked at my receipt and realized I didn't receive the sales price for the shrimp. Upon returning to the store, the cashier who checked me out was herself getting ready to buy some groceries (I assume her shift had just ended). She saw me asking if I was in need of any help. I explained my issue, and she left her place in line and proceeded to help me. This cashiers name was Peanut, and she is why I'm taking the time to leave a 5 star rating! Customer service that goes above and beyond what is necessary is super rare these days. Peanut is a SUPERSTAR employee!
