I have found my new favorite lunch spot in the South Bronx! I've honestly tried a number of other Mexican spots in this neighbor expecting quality food, only to be disappointed in the end. Thankfully I stumbled across La Perla while doing a desperate yelp search for somewhere nearby to get food. I've had tacos and also tostadas, both of which are delicious and affordable. The tostadas are my favorite. They are stacked with lettuce, tomatoes, beans, cheese, and sour cream, plus whatever meat topping you want. I've had steak, chicken, and shrimp, and they did not disappoint. They delivered to my job in 20minutes the last time I ordered! This is definitely my new go-to spot. read more

A big fat NEVER AGAIN for me. The person who took my order was friendly & professional. The delivery was fast, but the food was BLAH! Forget "where's the beef?" WHERE'S THE FLAVOR? The papaya shake was BLAH. The soup was a bowl of noodles, frozen mixed vegetables, broth and a huge piece of chicken back with a slab of fat and skin giggling on it... EEEW. The spicy pork burrito was BLAH. Even the salsa verdi was BLAH. How does one even make bland salsa? Ask this restaurant because they've got the recipe. Nice Mexican restaurant! I got chicken and steak tacos- I loved the chicken tacos they were amazing! I thought the steak was decent, but did not enjoy it as much as the chicken. Saturday 24th of june I went to eat with my family, we were 8 in total and as soon as the waitress saw us walk in she gave us an attituted. She took a long time to take our order and when she did she took it with an attituted. She took a very long time giving us our drinks so I asked if they would be any longer and she was extremly rude. She said we had to keep waiting, but I only asked for the drinks and after that and her behavior towards we left, mind you there were only 2 other tables each with only 2 people. read more

The only place I like to eat at in this neighborhood! Great mexican food! Which is saying a lot especially since I have high standards for my mexican food being from Los Angeles and all. I LOVE their carne asada tacos. Made to perfection with yummy salsa sauces- one spicey tomatillo sauce and another guacamole type sauce. So far the best mexican I have had in New York! Apparently they also have a great vegetarian burrito with avocado, rice and beans. The vegetarian I know swears by them. But beware the burritos are huge but cheap $5.25 each. Decor is very mexican with the typical mexican fabric as curtains and a juke box that plays mariachi music :p Small tables. Come for excellent, cheap, authentic mexican food! What a great place to eat for the price. Food is extremely fresh and delicious. I love going here for lunch. The tables are always packed (which should tell you something) so I try my best to do pickup vs delivery or dinning in. I ordered shrimp tacos, the shrimp tasted like they de-shelled and deveined it themselves. The pork taco was delicious and both had generous portions. Lastly I ordered guacamole. The person over the phone took my order asked me if I wanted it spicy or not spicy. I chose spicy, and they said "are you sure"... In tasting it, I realize why he asked. The heat was coming from real jalapeños! I tried 3 other Mexican restaurants in the area and none of them featured jalapeños as the kicker. It was a nice surprise, delicious, and insanely fresh. Just came out from this restaurant. After a long day at work I came to eat and hoping to have a grate time . I order my self a vegetarian burrito and I asked if the Horchata water was natural. My burrito was good but the Horchata water was artificial flavor. I got so mad so I had to order a fresh lemonade . Not only that the waiter was only focused on people around us and not on my table . I guess she got mad cause I told her the Horchata wasn't natural like I asked for . Wen I got my change back I was missing $10.00 . Although the staff can seem a bit uptight when you ask them a question, this restaurant serves authentic Mexican dishes like chilaquiles and gorditas. They do have some American options on the menu like steak and fries but I've found that they overcook the meat so best to go with straight Mexican food. VERY cheap. You can get a meal for less than $10 and be stuffed. Also quality of ingredients (for the Mexican food) is pretty good. They also have an old juke box with old Spanish music which my grandmother loved when I took her. Located near Lincoln hospital so gets pretty busy during lunch but highly recommend for a quick, cheap bite. read more

This is an excellent option within spitting distance of Lincoln. I was in the neighborhood for medical record abstraction, and I was excited to have some Mexican food for lunch! If one were to be a vegetarian, and find themselves in this neighborhood, this would be a good place to turn to. I strongly suggest ordering a vegetarian torta.the torta comes on thick bread, with mayaonaise, cheese, avocado, beans, jalapenos, and lettuce. Its delicious. And messy. my favorite sandwich in the neighborhood. the staff here are friendly, but service can be a little slow at times. on a side note, i have heard of people getting a little sick from the food here. watch out for the steak tacos. read more

Really, really good...but service really, really SUCKS! One girl should not be waiting tables and taking phone orders during the lunch rush...cmon! Get the girl help! As for the food, be prepared to wait a minimum of 20mins for you to get your order. Is it worth the wait? Yes, it is worth the damn wait. Food is scrumptious. Really, really good. La Perla's veggie tacos come with almost half an avocado on each taco, major plus. They're quick even when it's slammed, and it usually is around meal times. Owner is kind and helps out with food orders and delivery. This is my go to taco place in the south Bronx! read more

Some of the best burritos that I've ever had. The tortilla is crispy which makes it different from most burritos. I also love the sauces, the hot sauce is the right amount of spice without drowning out the flavor and the other sauce has a garlicky flavor that's fantastic, although it stays with you all day. The burrito is also large, it's a solid meal but not too huge to take away from the burrito. I prefer the steak (which is the same as the beef) but the chicken is good too. The price is right, the burrito is about 6.50 which is prefect for a meal. At another restaurant the same meal could be $10-$12 easily. The actual restaurant is very basic, but what do you want? It's essentially a take out place. The staff are very friendly and helpful despite being constantly busy. It's also open fairly late into the night closing at 11 I think. Would definitely recommend this for lunch or an informal dinner. Especially with the limited options in the area read more

Came here on two occasions - the first time I ordered steak tacos, which were good, today I ordered chicken tacos which were tasteless and lacked seasoning. Oh and if you want sour cream they charge an extra dollar. Would not recommend! read more

This is the go to spot for hungry residents on call at Lincoln. Great tacos, burritos and enchiladas. Only problem is that 80% of the staff does not speak English getting a delivery order right can be problematic. The food is great, great tacos and enchiladas rock. Appetizer wise, the chips with avocados, tomatoes, cheese and crema is the best. The meal is not complete until you get the Coca Cola from Mexico made with cane sugar. read more

This is good food cheap. Don't eat if you need to stay awake, because post-prandial naps may be in your future. Lots of options. I recommend the steak burrito. Excellent on its own, but the pepper sauce sends it through the roof. The burritos are BIG and messy. But completely worth it. Consider picking up a Jamaica - known to Jamaicans as Sorrel, and to botanists as hibiscus tea (small is usually sufficient). While the absence of ginger (and rum) is disappointing to the palate, it is refreshing and tangy. Negatives. Like most non-chain establishments in this part of the south Bronx, cash is king and plastic is a red-headed stepchild. There are ATMs nearby, but why risk it? They are slow. But then again, good food takes time, and it is worth the wait Most of the staff have trouble with English. Don't be surprised if you get handed off to the expert to complete your order, and try not to be in a rush. You will likely repeat your order slowly. Try this place. You won't regret it read more

This gets an extra star just because it's next to impossible to find decent food in this area, unless you're into mcdonalds. Really good guacamole - they will make it spicy if you ask for it. very cute, unpretentious place with a mom-and-pop feel to it. as other reviewers said already - service is super slow, so be prepared to wait. definitely recommended if you're in this neck of the woods. read more

Compared to Mexican restaurants in the UES, this place is heaven. La Perla is conveniently located across the street from Lincoln Hospital and the only lunch option that is not _insert any fast food store_. However, after eating here several times, I can't deny the icky feeling I get after eating 1/2 a burrito. I agree with the reviewer below that the veggies aren't too fresh and the burritos are not wrapped in a way that is conducive to eating by hand. On the other hand, their barbacoa is decent and I am a sucker for their banana shakes. Also, even though this place is a fast eats place, during busy hours they take a while to prepare the food. You must have more than 30 minutes of lunch break if you are planning on eating here. read more

I usually go for pernil /pork shoulder. Don't expect Taco Bell tacos, but what you can expect is fresh ingredients and well seasoned meat. Only negative is in the winter or if the weather is bad because you're outside and no seats. But overall the service is fast and the food is great if you want a quick bite

We walked in and was greeted vaguely and then was ushered to a seat near the door (even though there was open seating in the center of the restaurant). Then we realized the hostess wouldn't speak to us again for about 15mins. Turns out they "don't speak English" and bc we looked **foreign** (I'm being nice) they didn't know how/want to proceed. Wasn't until my Cuban friend started speaking Spanish that we were able to get service and was able to order. With all that said, the food was mid at best (fresh but lacking flavor) but the space was cute and cozy. Seems to be a hit amongst their friends and families so I will gladly leave their safe space to just them.
