La Paloma is a must see unique movie experience in San Diego! It will not be your classic luxury movie experience in any way. The whole place is quite run down, but that adds to the charm of it all. My family and I came on the Italian Movie Night which happens once a month and we had such a great time. We came with other friends who had been before, and brought seat covers which was a great tip for the future. They do have candy, snacks, popcorn and all the usual movie treats.

What a night!!! What a performance! We had the most amazing time at La Paloma. From the super welcoming cast out front, to the extravagant, artistic performances during the show of RHPS - I can gladly say my RHPS V card was WELL-stolen and WITH CONSENT! The actors and actresses were brilliant. Standing ovation! Whoever shouted "SUSAN SARANDONWRAP" during the show is my new hero, btw. The Theater is easy to access & parking was a breeze right in front. If you're a first-timer -- don't worry! You're in good hands (and spanks ;)!!!!!!) 18+ for RHPS recommended. This is WORTH THE $! Have yourself one heckuva evening! I couldn't believe it wasn't $50/ticket! I think we paid less than $15/pp and had a movie ANDDDD a show! Would suggest 15/10!

This place is falling apart, but that's why it's got its charm and character. Old movie theater built decades and decades ago, it's somewhat fell into a state of despair. Came here for a documentary movie on ice climbing and that was great. They definitely show a lot of Indy films related to outdoor sports not otherwise in big box theaters. They do sell popcorn and some drinks. Just very old school, nothing fancy. The chairs are not particularly comfortable so we only come here to see movies that are less than an hour long. Super cool place.

I haven't been to a local theater in San Diego before and I don't know why! I attended the Solento Surf Festival held here and had the best time. It's a very cute and quaint theater with a beautifully aged interior, complete with high ceilings and the all but recognizable dingy carpeting and theater seats (in the best way possible of course). But let me tell you, their popcorn oh my god was so GOOD! I don't know what they put in that stuff but it was magical and my friend and I ate the whole bag. I'll be on the lookout now for more events and showings at the theater because I'd love to come back.

This place is the perfect date night spot. The interior is beautiful and vintage and it takes you back to a diff time. The popcorn is delicious and the guy who made it did an excellent job on the butter:popcorn ratio . Also tons of restaurants nearby so you can do dinner first and just walk over.

The La Paloma is of a dying breed. It's been around for 96 years, and is one of the very last single screen theaters still in existence. You can feel its presence and soul when inside. I came to an 8pm showing of "Waterman," the Duke Kahanamoku documentary, and was the sole patron. There wasn't a single other person in the theater. This theater, that has hosted nearly a century of audiences, had nobody. Thank you to the La Paloma and the gentleman who showed the film even though it was only me. Please support this historic and incredible space. Places like this are sacred!

They should be a true independent theater. We need one in north county. We could use some culture.

Ask the Community - La Paloma Theatre

Does the theater have its own parking lot?

They do not but there is free parking right behind the theater that's part of the transit center. There is always free street parking around the area.

Where can one park?

There is street parking in the front or a free parking lot "around back." I know a lot of people worry about parking in SD, but honestly, there's ALWAYS a spot. One will open up!

(Author Andy Weir also wrote The Martian and Artemis, both of which I enjoyed.) There were a few theater options in the Carlsbad/Oceanside area, and Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas Paseo Real stood out for its fully reclining seats and in-theater dining. Reviews were decent, so we gave it a shot. Our party of four reserved seats for a weekday afternoon showing. If you can swing that timing, it's worth it. Tickets are cheaper and the theater is noticeably quieter. The seating was very comfortable, exactly what you'd hope for in a "luxury" theater. The venue itself felt a bit tired in spots, but still perfectly respectable. As for the movie, I enjoyed it. Ryan Gosling delivered a strong performance. Like most adaptations, it didn't quite live up to the book, but it was still very entertaining. Bottom line: Comfortable seating, a relaxed atmosphere, and a solid viewing experience. I'd be happy to come back.

I get my tickets via an application and then when I arrive I show it to the person in the box office/info area inside. They'll kindly tell you what auditorium it's in and where it's located. Easy peasy. I was slightly disappointed that I couldn't just order my popcorn in the concession area but rather had to use the order in your seat feature. On my last visit the previews weren't too long of a performance before the movie started just 13 minutes post the ticketed time. Even though I only wanted popcorn I curiously explored my options on the menu located on the rotating arm tables. Just push the glowing circle button for your attendant to take your order. I missed the very beginning of the movie because ordering in my seat slightly distracted me. I didn't even realize it wasn't another preview to another movie but rather the actual movie I came for. So for me it's a toss up between liking this feature and disliking it. The staffers were kind and had enjoyed my friends and my banter about it. We all had a good chuckle. Going on a Monday evening is nice since it's not as busy but also know that it's half the cost on a Tuesday evening. FYI. *It's also hit or miss on cleanliness but overall it seems better here than other venues by the same name. Also note: make sure you're heading to the right La Costa theater because there are two ~~ just in different centers. We didn't make a mistake this time so that was a "Whew!"

I like this location more than the other La Costa location since it's the newest. I am surprised they don't let you order your concessions at the counter anymore. It's quicker than the in-seat service. Half way through the movie we decided to get the cookie trio, which were delicious. The cookies were served warm and are massive. It did take a bit to get the cookies. I'd say maybe 30 minutes. But all in all a comfortable movie theater experience. The movie was amazing and loved all the nostalgic moments!

I purchased handicap seats because my mother is handicap and so is my grandmother. We were rudely, I mean RUDELY asked to move away from handicap because they were missing seats and claimed that the 3 seats we had were for 2 wheel chairs seats, yet there was chairs, no space for two wheel chairs, nothing that states "wheelchair only", nothing that specified only certain types of handicap. I purchased the only 3 handicap seats that were next to each other and available at this location. When we first arrived a couple were sitting in the seats we expected to have. The couple had no idea where they were supposed to sit because they didn't even have tickets!! We watched them move 4 times!! We watched them get kicked out of people seats 4 times!! I, the adult who PAID for tickets, paid for handicap tickets was told that the seats I bought were not for my type of handicap. So not only was I not given the handicap seats I paid for and that were absolutely necessary, I was pushed farther away from the exit to walk down steps with both handicap ladies in the dark while the movie was playing. THEN, the food we had ordered before getting kicked out of our seats showed up late, the server never came back to take our full order, never checked up on us, even the food was delivered with no "can we get you anything else". The only time the awful server came back was to drop the bill 45 mins before the movie was even finished! Outside that we ordered the endless popcorn which we clearly couldn't get more of, we were never asked before the bill was dropped off if we needed anything else or how it was. I think it's pretty clear that we were discriminated against, treated terribly and the staff intentionally stopped serving us. It too bad the unprofessional manager sent his employees to do the talking instead of coming out and dealing with the situation as he/she should have. For the prices we pay to go here, this is absolutely disgusting and unprofessional behavior by this staff. I will be writing to corporate to inform them about this awful situation.

The ticket price is ridiculous for essentially a one hour light show. The staff is friendly and provide instructions upon arrival. We arrived early and used the time to visit the gift shop. There were some good items, but they were mostly focused on Van Gogh. I was disappointed there was not more Monet merchandise. There is an "education area" before you go into the experience. Aside from reading the walls, there isn't much in the way of education. I thought the display was creative with the use of color and light and large sheer banners hanging from the ceiling. A few minutes before the show starts, you line up with a lot of other people. They tell you to walk around for the best experience. Unfortunately, the space is too small with people packed in so there is no way to walk around. Basically you are stuck in one place the entire time unless you want to push your way to a different spot. Floors are concrete, so standing for a while is uncomfortable. There were no seats other than a few benches scattered around. They should have been reserved as handicap. The Van Gogh experience is first and very slow to get started. There is no narration. Occasionally quotes appear in both French and English. Depending on the way you are facing, you may not see one or the other. There were some parts I really enjoyed, the flowers and starry night parts in particular. The Van Gogh part is about 30 minutes. We bought the combined tickets so we thought the Monet part would start immediately after. We were wrong! They replay the Van Gogh part and start Monet about 15 minutes in. I was extremely disappointed in the Monet experience and could have been so much better. We actually left after 10 minutes. There are so many missed opportunities for this experience. My recommendation would be to increase the size significantly so that people can walk as the show progresses. Being confined to a small space with a bunch of strangers is not fun. I think this experience would be okay for younger people or others who are not art enthusiasts. If you are really curious, go see the Van Gogh part. That's more than enough.

The movie was great. I highly recommend it. It was nice to go to opening night too because many of the stars came out along with the director. It's great to actually hear from the person who made the movie. After the screening we all headed over to Horton Plaza for the post-party. 944 magazine put on a great party along with other sponsors such as GQ, Smartwater, Tommy Bahama rum, Diesel and a few others.
