We've tried this location so many times in hope that it would be like the location off of Kingsley...tonight was the last try. Do NOT waste your money here. This place has went completely down hill. Decided to go in tonight and give it a chance. First we ordered a pitcher of lime margaritas, queso, pico and an order of rice and beans. That's it. (Keep in mind, there was MAYBE 6 other people in the restaurant) He dropped off the pitcher, which was strawberry, which we didn't order, and the dips then we didn't see him for a while. We didn't have napkins, and the chips tasted like they've been sitting open in a plastic bin all day. We asked for someone to grab him. He didn't come back and take our order, nothing. He didn't ever bring out the beans and rice either. Well we look over and our "server" is sitting at the bar, watching sports center, drinking a beer. I actually was sitting there with my jaw on the table, TURNS OUT, This is a MANAGER. Went today at opening for a chicken quesadilla and chips with queso. Food arrived suspiciously fast. My husband and I questioned it, but everything was hot so we figured it would be ok. I am now 100% confident that the food was left over and they just warmed it up. A few hours later and my husband and I both have nausea vomiting and GI upset. Full blown food poisoning. Stopped in for dinner. Walked in to find the hostess with her back to us on her cell phone. She looked at us and turned back around. The chip girl kept looking at us and motioned 1 min with an uneasy half smile and eyes darting at the girl on the cell phone. The table busier was also sitting up front on his phone. Finally someone from the back came and sat us, again not looking happily at the hostess still on the phone with her back to us. The chip girl brought us the chips she had been waiting to serve us. We looked over the menu and realized there were no prices. When the server finally came over, we asked why? She pointed to the napkin dispenser and said that we had to download the menu because the prices change daily. Then asked what we wanted to drink. We asked for a minute to look over the menu after we download it. 10 min later she had not returned. I left 2dollars for the chips and left. It was at 5:00pm and not at all busy. We have learned to just leave when we get the feeling this wasn't going to get better. As we left, the hostess had moved to another area still on the phone. No one even noticed we left. Whoever said this was authentic Mexican food, doesn't know what real Mexican food is. I had an enchilada platter the beef taco was unseasoned ground beef, the chicken tasted like canned chicken and it had piled on kraft cheese. My bf had carnitas,the carnitas again was unseasoned, the plate full of oil and the tortillas that were served with it were microwaved, they were all stuck together that's how you could tell they were microwaved, and then wrapped in aluminium foil to make you think they were just thrown in a comal. The waiter looked at me like I had 10 heads when I asked him if they served aguas frescas, because you know any authentic Mexican restaurant would have it. I wouldn't even call this Tex-mex because even Chuys and on the border, that are tex-mex try harder than this restaurant. And its very questionable when your plate comes out scorching hot that even the waiter has to wear arm length oven mitts. Like your food was nuked in the microwave before being served. Lets just say no leftover were taken home and we picked at our food. And my boyfriend mother had to push me out the door while the hostess asked my boyfriend if the food was good. That's another thing idk if the waiter got intimated when I asked if they had aguas frescas because he wouldnt speak up and didn't bother to tell us that we had to pay in front. This has become our go to Mexican place on Fleming Island. Food is consistent, drinks are well made and they have great specials. They are more than willing to accommodate requests, like burritos with red and green sauce, and they have killer tacos. Also really like their version of Pastor. I've been coming here for years now and service is always quick, prices are good, and food is great (be sure to ask for the green salsa). A recent experience I had made me come here and leave a review so people are aware of this experience. I tagged along on a family's annual trip to La Nopalera on Christmas Eve. This was their fifth or sixth year of doing this. We arrived about 4:40 and the sign on the door said they were closing at 5:00. Immediately, we said we would go somewhere else because we don't want to be a burden and come in with a party of 16 people ten minutes before they close. While we were waiting for the rest of the people to arrive, a worker (which we assume was the owner or manager) came out and talked with us and asked if we wanted a shot or any kind of drink while we were waiting. He insisted and even came back outside with an expensive bottle of liquor and offered us a shot on the house. We all declined but at least it was a nice gesture. The rest of the family arrived and they told the guy we didn't want to be a hassle to his workers and wanted them to be off on time so they could be with their families. The majority of the group wanted to leave, but the guy INSISTED we stay and eat. We finally decided we would go in and eat, and by now it's probably 5:00. Even though we were a table of 16 people that got seated as the place was closing (we were the only people in there), the experience was great. And to top it all off, the owner/manager wouldn't let anyone pay for their food. It was a very nice gesture and an excellent showing of customer service. A+ read more

Well this isn't my 1st time here but after sitting for 7 minutes with no drinks and no server even approaching me I had to give up. It's a shame that they have so much money they don't want more. Terrible take out experience during the in restaurant dining closure due to the corona virus. Called and placed an order and then went to pick it up after they said it would be twenty minutes. When I got there I said I was there to pick up an order for Daniel. I then went on to wait for 35 minutes without anyone saying anything to me and then randomly one guy came up to the front asking what I was waiting on. Up until the last two times I've been here it was my favorite Mexican restaurant in Jax. Not so much any more. Service at the Fleming Island location was horrible. Both times it was not overly crowded but food did not come for 52 minutes and only after I threatened to cancel my order if they didn't bring it soon boxed togo rather than dine-in. First time I tipped, second I didn't. My son went back a week later with friends and said he had the same experience. Sad. Food still OK, so I suggest take-out. read more

I've been coming here for years! I do have to say it's just not what it used to be. The salsa doesn't have any flavor anymore. It's like straight tomato sauce. It used to have loads of cilantro and such, which was so good, but no more. The beans are literally pure liquid. No exaggeration. So 'liquidy' (I'm sure that's not a word) you couldn't eat them with a fork. It's impossible. Like eating soup with a fork, if you know what I mean. It's a shame, because it used to be our go-to a couple times a week, but not anymore. Not sure if management has changed or what, but this location is no Bueno. Hopefully they will read these reviews and go back to how it is used to be. I can only hope. In the meantime, I'm going to have to try some other places out to find something better. Pretty good food, atmosphere and alcohol for cheap. Winning combination in my opinion. Be sure to get the queso for the chips.

This is the Fleming Island location for this local chain of "Mexican" restaurants, though the cuisine is much more Tex-Mex than authentic Mexican. It always seems to be packed, even at 2:00 or 3:00 PM. Expect a short wait, but everything on the menu is good. They serve some of the best tacos in the greater Jacksonville area. read more

The food is good but sad to say I don't think we will be returning because the service ruins the meal. Last night no one came to greet us after we were seated and we waited 10 minutes before I got up to tell the hostess no one has come over to us. Finally a man came and took our drink order and we also ordered our food because we had waited so long. He disappeared. We got the chips and salsa from someone else. No waters to have with the chips and salsa. Finally our margaritas came but still no waters. Our server finally reappeared with our waters and queso. We never saw him again after that only when he brought us our check literally as soon as the food came. Had to get up and ask the hostess for a box and told her he hasn't checked on us at all. I ran out of water but at that point I wanted to just leave. The server brought us our check in such a hurry but never came back to get the card. We paid at the front and left. It also seems like every time we go and there's a huge party eating there the employees just let the party take over everything. It's so loud which I understand they can't control a group of people but I think it allows the employees to think they can do whatever because there's a huge group and it's kind of chaotic. 4 servers were sitting at a booth on their cell phones and talking. Others were standing against the wall on their phones. This is the 4th time in a row we've had terrible service. Every time we just think it will get better and it doesn't. For years, dare I say at least two decades and maybe more, LaNop seems to be a cornerstone for the Jax restaurant scene. It's always busy yet it's very possible for better Mexican food to be found elsewhere at other restaurants. Over the years, I feel their prices have increased yet that increase does not correlate with the quality. Service is generally hit or miss - it's not something they seem to pride themselves on. We generally see our server to get our drink order, drinks delivered + food order, and around the time for the bill. Sometimes we see them an additional time or two, but don't count on it. Chips and salsa to every table and ordering queso is a must. Their Guac doesn't taste as though they make it, but like it's already smashed avocados in a bag (aka - avocado pulp; trust me, that exists). Their soft chicken taco is my daughter's favorite menu item. I've had their rellenos (they use poblano peppers) and it's not bad. They're just missing a "wow" factor and a reason for me to want to go there. We more so go there when we literally can't think of anywhere else and don't want to drive into Jax - but not because we're craving it and want to. read more

The food is horrible. A Storm came through and there was no power. Where was the back up generator? It got extremely Hot.. it was pitch black in our booth where we had to eat. They wouldn't comp the meal,or even give 10% for our inconvenience. Imagine eating and you can't even see your hand in front of you. Everyone was trying to use their cell phones. Bad. Just really bad. The drinks were good, the food was bad. The initial salsa for the chips lacked any taste, it was quite literally tomato sauce with very little seasoning. Next up we got the cheese dip and the guacamole. Cheese dip was just like the rest. The Guac was as if someone just squeezed it from a plastic tube. From the very beginning, our waiter gave us the look as if we were Trump supporters. We got the ugly eye right from the beginning. This place seems totally Mexican ghetto. Nasty. The food arrived and the enchilada sauce tasted like salty ketchup. So screwed up. We love Mexican restaurants and this place is the worst one we have ever been too. We just moved to this area and this is our local Mexican restaurant. After tonight, we are seriously depressed knowing this is our only option VS Tiajuana Flats.
