Well we ended up choosing La Carbonaia and we were not left disappointed, or at least, not completely. The place is very small and characteristic, the grill is front and center with a display of costate fiorentine in front. I like the vibe. They bring a complimentary appetizer, mondeghili, typical Milanese fried meat balls, de-li-cious. I order a grigliata mista and the others order a fiorentina. The grigliata mista is kind of disappointing, especially the serving size. It's a very small plate with just three types of meats, I expected more quantity. It was very good, but not filling at all. The fiorentina was delicious, with some very tender pieces and other not so tender ones. Very rare, they don't even ask how you want it, that's the way you have to have it anyway, all in all a good experience.

After I got my seemingly simple query got solved, I sill wanted a quick hot bite before boarding my 4 hour ride to Zurich. I ate the tagliate Italian beef with potatoes. The quality of the meat wasn't too great but it arrived quickly and cheap so what can you expect? My biggest beef however (excuse the pun) was that it was served on a metal searing hot plate, which meant that regardless the kitchen cooked the beef exactly according my request, it quickly overcooked. The restaurant was filled to the brim but the service was quick and I managed to order and eat a main in 30 mins so I mission accomplished. I guess if you don't expect too much you can't be too disappointed either.

We had a cullatello and burrata dish ( all ingredients finely chosen and very tasty), accompanied by soft foccaccia, and an Angus tagliata - top quality meat, perfect cooking , I'm really choosy about eating raw / half raw meat but that was really exquisite. All sprinkled by a fantastic Barolo ( Rocche Costamagna) that wasn't at all overpriced ( I loved that wine so much that I checked the detail price and find it to be just several bucks lower than the restaurant's price). I would love to come back here. Warmly recommended.

We got the eggplant crispy and a side of spaghetti with marinara. The sauce was wonderful and the eggplant was huge and the cheese was excellent but the sauce was the star. The crème brûlée- this was the amazing part of the meal. Not a typical brulee. There was no sugar crust. It had a fruit reduction on the plate and fruit on top and was a wonderful custard. Our friends got the lasagna and said it was one of the best ever. They also got the salad with chicken breast and it was huge. They had the tiramisu for desert and it was excellent. This place is highly recommended.

Three stars for the food, but the service is five stars all the way…read more One of the only spots (if not the only, I didn't ask every restaurant) that can accommodate gluten-free at Milano centrale - the food is American - burgers, steaks, etc. but not quite fastfood if you're in a hurry (typically takes 15-20min for prep), I was grateful the staff was willing to accommodate me as I rushed off to the airport. My GF burger was like a pita burger, and while a bit on the dry side, the sauce they added an unique Italian touch to the flavor (not ketchup or mustard), I just wished there more of it. They also have some vegetable sides (I was dying for some greens after a week of eating out), which were only 1.50 euro to add a first side to the burger, then regular price for the next side. Thankful to find a GF spot for my next stop in Milano Centrale!

The ambiance is excellent and very "American", if my fellow countrymen will forgive me for saying so, in the sense that it's well organized, neat and and carefully refined in lighting and style. Outdoor seating available depending on the season. Only note, at 21 EUR (for the buffet) and 39 EUR (for the buffet and the rodizio), excluding 4 EUR of "coperto" (service) and excluding all drinks and water, it is a bit spendy. Also, if you're getting here by car, there's street parking but I would advise to park at some distance from the restaurant as there's a couple of very unpleasant guys asking for money to "guard" your car (meh...).

It's difficult to judge a Chinese buffet in Italy, because there are very little competitions and…read morefrankly, you're in Milan! But it's easy because I'm a former Chinese buffet expert so I can break it down to you: there are some good items here, many average ones, and some really horrific. Good ones to try: large shrimp, beef, or anything that is from the grill area. Their fried rice was above average (but don't fill up on that since you'll get full really quickly). Seafood salad (by the salad bar), pineapple (in season) and stir-fry shrimp were also good. Average: everything else, minus the horrific ones below. Horrific: sushi (not as fresh/cold as I'd like), any of the dim sum items, stir-fry section (not to be confused with the grilled section, which you don't choose sauce), teriyaki chicken (overcooked), spare ribs (overcooked) Having said that, $20 euro per person isn't that bad, considering the variety of things you can get. Pro tip: even if you put 6-7 large shrimp on your plate (from the grilling section), they will only bring you 3-4. So separate them into multiple plates with something random (example: if you want 7 shrimp, put 3 + slice of beef on 1 plate, and 4 + slice of chicken on another plate). Pro tip 2: gelato is $1 more

The burger, the surf and turf was good. Lots of crayfish bursting out. Overall, it was a decent burger but I'm not sure whether the beef or the fish was the star and thus the burger while tasted good didn't shine. What did shine were the chips/crisps. It's a large order to share and it tastes delicious. The beer though, was a good selection. One thing is I had to ask for the bar menu. Perhaps they just assumed I'd be happy with looking at the taps. The service, informative, polite, patient, though not overly friendly. I'd go again if not just for the beer and chips.
