We LOVE this restraunt! I ALWAYS have to get the beets, no matter what try. My husband is glued to the chicken salad sandwich, but I went for the salmon today. It's AMAZING! Emma has helped me almost every time I've been here, and you can't ask for a more welcoming environment. I love it here
I've been wanting to come here for awhile and brought some out of town friends here for a Saturday morning brunch. I found parking in the front, but there's also lots in the back. It was busy and had a decent line, but it moved quick. You come along a walk of pastries first and wow did they all look amazing and well stocked. Moving through the line you see all their loafs, pizzas, and take-home dishes. At the counter you can order breakfast and lunch options and coffee. We got several pastries, 2 BEC croissants, and 2 iced coffees. The food was spectacular. Service was quick and efficient but I feel like they were trying to hurry us out of our table by clearing our plates immediately. Decent amount of tables inside and out on the patio. Will definitely be back!
Food and pastries were exceptional. 5 stars. Regular brewed coffee was good. Espresso based drinks were poor at best. Zero stars. If you are looking for A craft latte- this is not the option. Lunch? Cant miss. Sandwich's are amazing.
What a cute and amazing spot! I stopped here for lunch and a little treat (the sticky bun with pecans was unreal) and was not disappointed. Their bread is amazing and the place was clean and open and inviting! Good indoor seating options too.
First timer! Visiting from out of town and found this gem here on Yelp. SO GLAD I DID. Beautiful, clean, lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Incredible service from start to finish. Delicious pastries, coffee, sandwiches. Loved the selection of all the grab-and-go goodies. Will definitely be back! :)
Delicious foods - amazing experience and the pasties were divine. I highly recommend to give yourself extra time to park and extra time to stand in line. This places reputation is amazing and you should know that you'll be waiting for a minute to check out.
3.5* (out of 5) Food: 4* Atmosphere: 3* Value: 4* Service: 3* 03/15/2023 This place has been on my Want to Go list for a while and got the chance this week while my brother and sister-in-law were visiting. While it was admittedly a little difficult to find buried in the middle of a strip mall - overall, it is a solid stop with a good selection of what you'd expect to find in a bakery (see pictures). We entered through the back and while the large deck was empty in March, the posted summer pictures look like it would be a great place to have breakfast and a coffee. For my meal, I ordered the Southwest Omelet (see picture) and my wife ordered the Sausage & Mushroom Omelet (see picture). My Sister-in-law ordered the Quinoa Black Bean Salad (see picture) and my brother ordered the Ham and Swiss Sandwich (see picture). We all enjoyed our orders, with the only negative being that the toast included with the omelets was toasted too long and ended up very hard. The bread itself was good though, as my brother commented that he really liked the bread on his Ham and Swiss Sandwich. The interior atmosphere was clean and modern and the presentation of the prepared foods was great. The things that held me back on a 5* were the strip mall exterior, plastic eating utensils and the venting / duct work on the ceiling above the kitchen area. From our table in the dining area, the kitchen ceiling showed an accumulation you might expect in a kitchen area that would look much better with a good cleaning. Lastly on the service, I marked it down a bit due to the time it took for someone to help us at the front counter (several workers there, but seemed pre-occupied with other tasks and didn't initially even acknowledge we were there or ask if we would like help). Similarly, after our order at the counter, the food was dropped off at our table with very little interaction of any kind and no follow up during or after our meal. The breads are first class of course but today I ate their Italian Sandwich. I'm from Chicago and I thought Dijon Mustard didn't belong on this sandwich but wow it was great. The bread was crunchy yet so soft. The meats were high quality and the cheese exquisite. Loved everything . My partner had the bacon egg cheddar croissant and it was nothing less than amazing. Don't skip on this gem!

La Mie is a Des Moines staple. Everyone who visits knows to come here and grab a famous pastry. Regulars are always here and returning customers always rave about their breakfast of the day. I love coming here for the atmosphere. Delicious brunch or breakfast with all the sounds and smells of an authentic French pastry shop. Come here to see people Or to be seen. I used to be able to eat all the pastries. My favorites were any of the croissants. Now I stick with plant based items like the tofu scramble, chickpea scramble, side of fruit, side of potatoes, oatmeal, and the breads. The French presses coffee is nice. Really. That's pretty much for the plant based/vegan options. I hope they will make plant based pastries one day. read more

Oh man, La Mie is one of my absolute favorite places in Des Moines. They have some of the best pastries, my favorite scrambles, and great coffee! This is a great spot to meet a friend or to enjoy some outdoor seating with your dog. They also have a downtown Des Moines skywalk location, La Mie Elevate. Definitely check it out and try the vegetable scramble and any of their pastries! read more

If you're looking for freshly made macarons that are tasty and and the best price in town! La Mie is where to go! I got 3 sets of their Macarons for Bachelorette Tea Party and it was perfect. Each flavor was yummy, soft crunchy outside, with a sweet and/or tart filling! Each set came with all 7 flavors. I forgot some of the names but the ones i do remember is: pistachio, cherry, cherry/berry, blackberry, coffee, and vanilla. read more

Excellent pastries and breakfast food. I love that you can get healthier breakfast options here. I also love the chaos of it all... just the way you can grab your food and pay for it and so grab your own drinks. I got the quiche with bacon and it was excellent. Tried the peach pastry and it was delicious, crisp, and fruity. It wasn't overly sweet. I tried the cheese danish and it wasn't my favorite. The cheese danish is sweet, not savory. Overall, this place has really good food and I can't wait to visit again once I'm in Iowa again. read more

This place has really yummy pastries and lots of lunch options. HOWEVER, I am completely dumbfounded by the Sweet & Spicy tofu bowl. It came with only 4 (really 3) pieces of RAW tofu. How are you gonna just throw raw tofu in there and charge $11 when the salmon bowl costs the same amount?! Tofu is wayyyyyy cheaper than salmon. I appreciate a tofu option but you have to take the extra few minutes to bake/fry/sautee it like you do with everything else. Come on now... read more
La Mie has become my favorite brunch spot in Des Moines. Every time I pass through or stay for the weekend, I always make a stop at this fantastic bakery. La Mie has the most delicious, authentic, French pastries. The pastry options are endless, especially if you arrive early. The menu ranges from egg scrambles, omelets, French Toast, and pastries to salads, soups, and sandwiches. This is a fantastic spot for a breakfast/lunch date, or simply your morning coffee and pastry. Not only is the food amazing, but the staff is great as well. The staff is very friendly and consistently gives great service. The cafe is always clean, the tables are cleared fast, and I've never had to wait for a seat, no matter how busy they are. Definitely check out La Mie!!! read more
Stopped for a quick relaxing breakfast on the patio out back. It's self serve/order at the counter. They do bring you your cooked items. Food came quickly and no wait in line on a Monday morning. Ice tea is complimentary if you eat there. Was actually luke warm because of no ice--freshly made. Only complaint is that they don't label pastries. There is a small chalkboard with info and prices on it but no way to tell what's what for sure. Fresh food and good quality. It was hard to resist taking home a loaf of bread! read more

Pastries and pizza tasted amazing, but I feel disrespected because they refused to give me a plate to eat off of. No, I did not order to go. read more

Wow! There was a bit of a line, even on a weekday, but SO worth the wait (which really wasn't super long). While here, I tried a variety of drinks and good items. For drinks I tried some cold brew and an americano and both had great flavor. You can tell it was high quality coffee/espresso. The food we got (avocado tatting) was amazing too! Good portion of avocado and super hot and freshly cooked eggs. Lastly, the pastries were incredible. So soft, fresh, not too sweet, and just perfect! I can't wait to come back and try even more types of pastries. read more
Have passed this place many times but finally had a chance to try it yesterday. The smell of fresh baguettes greets your olfactory nerves as you enter and you'll want to get one of everything! The cookies looked amazing but willpower prevailed (it was 10 am). Order at the counter and when your food is ready, staff will bring it to your table. I ordered French toast and when it arrived, it looked like the most beautiful French toast I'd ever seen. BUT - it was just a bit too dry - normally I like my French toast dipped not soaked but this needed a bit more egg batter. Was still good but three pieces was way too filling. The Detox Chai Latte was heavenly - I would go back just for that! Daughter had the salmon tartine and liked it. She also had a blueberry pastry that had lots of flaky buttery pastry surrounding a nest of blueberries- yum! Don't bring your laptop and plan on spending hours as there is a 45 minute limit posted at tables. read more

Best bakery in town. I can't count the number of visits, breakfasts, lunches and fly by's for pastries. The owner is always working hard with his staff, and I love that he supports young people in the industry, it's people like him that will grow the next great restaurant owners/chefs/ and just balanced people. If you haven't been here, then get here now, it is a Des Moines staple. read more

FRESHEST BESTEST MOST INCREDIBLE place to eat breakfast in Des Moines. Been here a handful of time and it's always busy but incredibly quick to bring out food. Pastries line the counter and they are absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the blueberry danish Today's order: Decaf americano Ham spinach scramble Blueberry danish - ~15$ read more

As I sit here knee deep in a beautiful cherry croissant filled with a light and fluffy cream, I cant help but think, "Damn, I wish Indy had a café of this nature -the eats, the vibe, the constant flow of people purchasing croissants like its nobody's business, etc." My only addition from last time: -no wifi -fresh squeezed juice -try the cherry croissant (large juice and croissant only cost me $5!) read more
This place is BUSY and there's a good reason why! I met a friend here for breakfast on a Wednesday morning around 8:45 and the place was packed! I entered through the back door so unfortunately, I had to wait to get the moment of awe when seeing the tables of pastries/danishes. If you like breakfast baked goods, this is your heaven! Every single pastry/danish looked so amazing that it was hard to pick one out. I went for the cheese danish because they are some of my favorites. I chose to put it on a plate rather than take a sack or a box. Next I went to the counter and felt a bit overwhelmed by the menu. I literally just looked at the eggs section, saw the words "chickpea" and "avocado" and ordered the Chickpea Scramble because I love chickpeas and avocados. They give you a number and you head to your table. The amount of food is rather generous and appropriate for the price. My egg scramble was delicious! It had the right amount of seasoning and was loaded with veggies that were cooked perfectly. The cheese danish was awesome too! Thick cheese in the middle like it should be! The quiche that my friend had looked delicious too! I literally want to go back and raid the pastry/danish table again soon! read more
Finally made it for brunch. I didn't realize you needed to order at the counter, so I felt a little flustered when I had to decide what I wanted right away. I could have waited but the place was packed. The staff we very helpful. The food came out very fast. Next time I would eat outside as it was so busy . read more

Awesome breakfast, even better pastries. The pastry spread sitting in the middle of the room is gorgeous enough to make even the most strong-willed person cave in and help themselves to one of each delicious, delicate pastry in sight. Show up during off-peak hours or be prepared to wait in line and fight for a table after you've ordered. Portions are pretty good, so if you order breakfast AND a pastry (required, if you ask me) be prepared to loosen your belt or take some leftovers home. read more

New Coffee Review: la mie has long been my coffee shop away from Zanzibar's, especially since they stopped providing pastries for zanzi's. I knew I could stop by and snag a croissant or two and a cup of very tasty french roast and be quite satisfied. that has changed. it is never a good sign when the coffee has a name - rather that just a geographic location - attached to it. what are you hiding by not identifying the source and educating your customers? what exactly does "eighty35" tell you about what I'm about to drink? for starters, that it is going to disappoint me. for another, it is probably some anonymous blend of cheap blends. i don't want to know that it has a caramel taste with hints of bullsh*t. marketing specialists more often than not don't know beans about good coffee, just more about profit margins. la mie has just plummeted in this reviewer's opinion. fortunately, the pastries are still 5. read more
