La Jawaab is consistently good, be it their CHAATS, CURRIES or HAKKA Chinese food. - MANGO LASSI- was refreshing and not overtly sweet. The drink was done before I could get a picture. - PAPRI Chaat- the sweet and tangy flavors reminded me of the chaats back home - PANI PURI- this is hands down my favorite kind of street food and La Jawaab does a great version. - HONEY GARLIC CAULIFLOWER- This is one of our favorite dishes from this restaurant. Crispy cauliflower in a hakka style sauce never disappoints - TAWA CHICKEN- Suggested by the manager, this chicken dish was delicious and went very well with the GARLIC NAAN and LACCHA PARATHA I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to have some good Indian food in the city. Price wise, I would say its average and excellent value for the buck. @rasahful

I've been able to travel all around the US and different parts of the world and let me tell you. If you are ever in the Calgary area you must try this food! It is flavorful, rich, and very delicious. If your just visiting Calgary check this place out. Atmosphere is nice and modern with the utensils having a very old world feel. Great place!

La Jawab also spelt, Lajawab, serves indian and Hakka Chinese cuisine. What impressed me about this place was the service. The owner or manager always made sure we had enough water and never made us wait when we needed more naan :) They have equal amounts of dishes for vegetarians and meat lovers :) Actually, if you include the appetizers, there's actually more vegetarian dishes. We came here with a group of friends and ordered two kinds of Daal (yellow and black lentils), plain naan, garlic naan and butter naan, vegetarian pakoras with chick peas, another appetizer I can't remember the name of, butter chicken lol, garlic chili prawns, and a couple of other dishes I can't remember either hahaha *sigh* :( But, I will tell you this; the food is good here and worth a visit. The thing is, I love indian food, pakistani food, punjabi food like anything from that part of the world and I've been to many "indian" restaurants and its never the same... like noway nohow; everyone has their own little twist on the same dishes, its so hard to benchmark anything. Its pretty much about the handful of dishes or maybe theres just 2 that you really like at one restaurant that will make you come back for more. Maybe its the service and maybe its just that they have amazing Chai :) So, from my experience and comparing it with the many, many, many indian restaurants I've dined at in my life, La Jawab deserves 4 stars. All I can say is that you can expect to have a consistent experience here, their naan was very good, and their dishes had the right amount of quantity. Great service and delicious food, even though we had to wait a while for the chai, it didnt matter too much to me; more talking and catching up with old friends. oh yeah! and their Gulab Jamin and Rasmalai were really good. If you get their gulab jamin, make sure you let it sit for a bit to cool down; mine was served really hot.

Great authentic Indian food! My husband and I came here Sunday afternoon as he was craving Indian food, one of his friends recommended this place. Glad we came in and tried it. The waiter was very helpful and we ordered a chicken curry dish that was not on the menu but he recommended with garlic naan. Everything was delicious. My husband cannot wait to return next time we are in Calgary!

Excellent service! The service makes the restaurant absolutely a pleasure to visit. The food is delicious and portion sizes are also good. Prices are fair. My only comment is that they charge for yogurt- this should be no different than the free chutney accompaniments and should be included especially since some guests may find the food spicy.

Bikaner sweets and restaurant is an unconventional restaurant, it has sweet shop on the front and restaurant inside. It has nice dining setup. I went in for dinner and the place turned out to have a dinner buffet. I was craving for good veggies and here they were laid in front of me along with chutneys, pickles and sauces. Aloo gobhi (potato and cauliflower), sitaphal (pumpkin), dal, were all so authentic and homelike that a morsel in the mouth and it could just melt your heart. Oh! The flavors, the spices, just right. The naans were nicely done and crisp. To top it the dessert, jalebis and gulab jamun were among the best I have had in North America. They can work on their entrance though.

The first time I drove by I was intrigued by the name; the next time I decided to stop in. As you enter the restaurant you pass through the sweet shop, where amazing Indian treats are sold by weight. I have no idea what I tried (one was a sweet, spongey, cake-like thing that was white on one end and light brown on the other; I also tried a more dense white square with pistachios on top) but they were incredible! I've also brought out-of-town guests to Bikaner Sweets House and Restaurant to sample the treats and they agree with me- it's all absolutely delicious! The staff there are always so nice to me and I never feel like they're judging me because I don't know the different sweets. I will definitely return in the future to try the restaurant- if the food is half as good as their sweets it will be worth it!

Across the way from La Jawab (a very good 4.25 star Tamil Indian restaurant also in the same large McKnight and 52nd Street plaza area), Punjaabi offers excellent pomfret fish (tandoori), very good vindaloo and garlic naan bread. They also serve an assortment of other veg and non-veg dishes. Returning there with my wife, together we dove into yet another tandoori pomfret, very fine chicken curry, and garlic naan/paratha with a good-tasting mango smoothie. Despite the restaurant name, it seems their chef can cook several styles, including Tamil from Chennai to Goa, up to Punjab and possibly other parts of the Indian sub-continent. Pretty cool, esp. as these styles all taste wonderfully different. Our waiters were forthcoming and easy to work with. Other customers were largely other Indians, a very good sign. With an attractive upbeat interior, cloth napkins and table cloth, and matching silverware, Punjaabi is distinctly a step up from most of the other Calgary Indian restaurants. But prices are still average per entree, hovering in the $13-15 range, with specialty dishes running up to $22. Leftovers provided 3 home meals this 2nd time, and as a test of the best chefs, the flavours and textures held up nicely. In a red/black art-deco interior likely inherited from the restaurant that recently closed before they took possession, it pipes through Bollywood-styled glitzy music on several flat screens. One slight downside is that there were no female serving crew: it's our opinion that women servers are far more attentively caring than the average man. For instance, to have our waiters play with their cell phones in plain view of customers is bad form: with water covering the handwashing sink area, washrooms need minor cleaning, and we had to call them over for payment and to arrange takeout. With my wife helping run a local pizza restaurant and 7.5 years of customer service and staff supervisory experience in the hospitality industry, it was plain to both of us that in general female servers are simply more with it than the average male. Hint ... hint? A closer alternative to the excellent Mehtab in Cochrane, Punjaabi is well worth it!
