Checked out the restaurant and decided to dine in. Only had one waitress and the place was empty. A ton of take out orders at this place. The sweet and sour shrimps were succulent, the lamb vindaloo was delicious. Mango chicken and papri chaat were ok. Sadly they had no dessert or ice for the water or soft drinks. I've been enjoying JPs many flavourful dishes for a few years now ,even though there have been several occasions when I was disappointed by too much spice or dry meat or a tough and burnt naan.Post pandemic and inflation I've noticed a reduced amount of all ingredients in their dishes,like their chicken biryani had little meat in it and no bell peppers like they used to but still states on the menu,which is a shame because it tastes lovely.I would rather an increase in price then a decrease in the ingredients and won't be giving them my business anymore read more

I did like the place I ordered take out last week and all I saw was dead insects all over . The up keep has dwindled . Once we ordered butter chicken and there was a staple in it. All they could offer was a free order . We decided to give them another chance months later. We found the portions had also been subpar. They started off ok but I think they going down hill on a steep decline . It could be the economy but that's when you should shine to attract customers. read more

I am not sure how this place getting five stars. My experience at this place was horrible, from service to food to timing. Lets start with positives: Got seated right away as there were no one else but us at the time we went. Our order was taken right away. I liked their unique simple decor and cleanliness of the place. We wanted to try their butter chicken as we heard good things about it. We ordered one laccha paratha, one naan, butter chicken and chaat papri (appetizer). So now the waiting part began... Our glasses are empty, couldn't get any attention from the server was busy , i am not sure with what, she was just not in our sight. Because at that time only one other table had customer. we waited for good 30 minutes before we got out appetizer, chaat papri. Which was not bad, good portion for two people. We got our water after asking for it. Thank god. Now more waiting time began for our main dish which was just simple naan, paratha and butter chicken. it took 40 minutes to come to our table. no apology from the server, no acknowledgement. I was just wowed at their service. so I just thought maybe food will recover for the time we have waited. Chicken from butter chicken was dry and no taste, with so much color. Laccha paratha was soaked in oil and burnt at the back ( you can see in my picture ) . I am still confused how can these two dishes take more than 40 minutes to come to table and still not edible. The server came twice at our table, once to take order and give water and give us the bill in all those time. Really not sure how this place had a 5-star score; either folks have low expectations for Indian in this part of town or we ordered on a bad night. We ordered the three usual dishes we get at any Indian Restaurant: Palak Paneer - The actual paneer was good but the sauce was just not good. Butter Chicken - The sauce for this dish was actually excellent but the chicken terribly dry. Lamb Korma - Relatively dry meat yet again; Korma sauce was ok Saffron rice was exceedingly floral (might just be personal preference) and the Garlic Naan lacked any real garlic flavor. I would suggest Tamarind if your in the Evanston area or Moti Mahal if your closer to the downtown core. read more

I came to Canada for a 7 day hike and wanted to try some Indian food. This has to be one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to. The food was freshly made. Typically, I have seen cream sauce added to most dishes for flavor. This place is all fresh. The naan was freshly made also. We will be back!!!!! read more

My husband and I ate in. The food is your typical mall Indian type buffet food. Nothing stood out, no fresh flavours. We felt the staff were trying to push us to order their alcoholic drinks and they lacked a true warmth. There are much better Indian restaurants in the vicinity and I urge you to try them. The only plus would be the location if you live in Evanston. It's really too bad they don't live up to the expectations based on the reviews on Yelp. read more

Delicious food. The bhel puri was perfect. The chicken tikka masala was excellent. Raita had some tasty cultures in it. The malai kofta had the best sauce. Not a huge fan of the malai balls though. That sauce would be good with anything however. Service was excellent too. read more

Bought a Groupon for this placed, based on Yelp reviews available at the time. Well, I guess that brought in too much business for them, as when I tried to use my Groupon they refused to honor it. As a matter of fact, they stopped accepting them a week before they expired. I can't imagine they will be successful with this business model. Would obviously give them no stars. read more

WARNING! Our daughter bit down on something so hard in the naan I heard it sitting 3 feet away from her. I told the server and asked her what it could be and she shooed away my concern with her hand and said it was no big deal! She's fine! It's probably just clay because they bake it in a clay oven and clay breaks off and gets stuck to the naan "all the time" (ummm new oven?). Still haven't heard back from the owner after the pain lasted for days, I left a message with the staff, and we are waiting for her dental appointment. I grew up with my best friend's mom cooking for us all the time (East Indian) and this restaurant is below average at best if you are used to good East Indian food. The furniture is broken down - we had to move tables so our drinks didn't spill from a really wobbly table. And both benches we sat on were so broken down you could barely sit in them, sinking into them as if you might fall through and sliding to the middle against the person next to you. And as some of the other reviews said, yes, it's filthy. An unoccupied table next to us sat with flies buzzing around all the food almost our entire meal even though we were the only ones there with two servers on until another couple came in later. But, if you want to risk a couple thousand dollars on a dentist bill for sub standard food, sitting on broken furniture with flies buzzing around, try this place. read more

I always feel conflicted when ordering from this restaurant. The quality of the food is usually great, though sometimes a bit inconsistent from order to order. Portion size is large and we always end up with leftovers for the next day. Love the saffron rice and palak paneer. We usually take out so can't comment much on service other than we usually get our food in an acceptable amount of time. Where I struggle is that I feel the owner (or manager?) handles situations inappropriately on social media, and some of the posts on their Facebook page are quite unprofessional. I like supporting businesses close to where I live however am often turned off by how the business represents itself. read more
