She doesn't blink an eye and goes with the flow. Robert is a great physical therapist as well. He knows how to push without seeming to push. Emily is lovely. We had other therapists, and everyone was professional, but this was my father's key team. The nursing is better than most. Are they all rock stars? No, but all were above average. The food was decent for a hospital, and they actually want you to get items you like. The place is clean and has no bad smells. The cleaning crew cleans your room daily. Parking is simple and free for visitors. No crazy visitation hours. Everyone on the staff listens and makes you feel heard. No one wants to be at a rehab hospital, but this will be the only one I will go to moving forward.

I was blessed with a scholarship to Second Chances Sober Living. Jeff Lewis was informed prior to me moving in I had no food and would potentially need help before I could get to a place of some income. I was greeted by the house with open arms and some people offered me food. Late at night I made a mistake I take responsibility for. I began eating a small amount of food which I planned on talking about in the house meeting. I was definitely going to replace more than I eat. I was awakened the next morning by David who runs the house. Very nice man but a little pissy giving me the news I had to move out. Not even 24 hours I was there!! I attempted to call Jeff Lewis he not only was aggressive but stated I need to get out as quickly as possible because the house is pissed. I stated no one was going to do anything to me. He insured me I need to get out very quickly because his words "if I was you I would get the fu_k out of there as quickly as possible before housemates get home. I have been sober for over 3 1/2 years before with the guidance of the 12 steps. What I learned was love, tolerance, integrity, forgiveness amongst many other quality traits. Jeff practiced non of the qualities of AA. I know what Jeff is. He is that guy that is a smooth talker and loved in meetings but inside is unmanageable. He bullied me, shamed me while I am already full of it. I was literally shaking with fear. I haven't shook in decades. I knew what was in store for me countless nights of homelessness and hopelessness. This was my one shot to get my life together. Again it is my error although it is not as I used or put anyone else in danger. He sent a group text at 7:40 in the morning stating I was eating peoples food right now, which wasn't true. I was sleeping. He did this to get the house hyped up to potentially attack me with physical violence. I later learned that his wife is on the board which oversees this home. What a conflict of interest as well as convenient. I will continue to review Jeff Lewis for the phony he is.

My brother also went here 2 years before me, he was there for 6 months. He was sober 15 years and I was in AA for 10 years consecutively. I know exactly what goes on at this place, regardless of how you guys want to dress it up over time, or slap on a new coat of paint, or LLC. I am sad to see it, but I do find it very fitting, that you all still have Steel on Steel listed on the current website, in 2025. Mark Houston was really proud of that, which I think is a fact that is worth considering, if you guys who work there now were also subjected to it. For others I will explain what Steel on Steel was. Let's say today, right now, there are 30 clients in treatment. All of those people are in a treatment cetner, because something has happened for them to be so down and out, or otherwise confused, that they have now ended up in a treatment center. Many are broken, shunned by their family, and quite simply embarrassed and unsure of how to proceed or even what is going on. Steel on Steel is picking out one of those desparate, broken clients, and forcing them to sit in the center of the room, where everyone else sits around them in a circle. So 40 people sitting in a circle, with 1 person forced out alone at the center. You need a pretty big room for this, and by the way I have photos of the room this took place in. And, I use the word forced, because many of the clients were court ordered to this treatment center, and if staff reported them as being out of line or unfit for release, they could be sent to prison. Bottom line is, no one could refuse anything. You were forced to particiate in any activity, and that most definitely included Steel on Steel. Someone says it's time for Steel on Steel, and once the stage is set - lights and all that as you guys like to say - the next step of the ritual is for the other 29 clients, and any staff members present, to come up with the most cutting remark that they can, about the person sitting in the middle of the circle, in order to completely break that person down, because that person is entitled and delusional - so say the staff. The idea of Steel on Steel is for 30 patients, who have just come off the street, to somehow fix each other with "constructive" criticism, in this way. So: the one client is forced into the center of the room, is not allowed to speak, may not cross their arms, must sit upright, and may not respond for 24 hours afterwards - this client will sit in silence, and they will make eye contact with every client, and every staff member, as they are read these shaming remarks, one by one. And that's Steel on Steel. Mark Houston's proud legacy - a group attack on someone at rock bottom. The idea is to break you, as Mark said. AA people like quotes: "Give a small boy a hammer, and he will find that everything he encounters needs pounding." And who did Mark love swinging that hammer with. But you still have it on the website, like it's some sort of refined art, to gang up and bully and shame people, who have functionally become your prisoners, are completely at your mercy. Really interesting stuff. That was the carrot Mark Houston and others loved to hold over every starving person's head: "Don't like what I say? You are here because you did XYZ, but you have the nerve to question my methods? I'm Big Time Sobriety. Better start taking notes, or you can have fun in prison when we give you a bad report" - and he used the same tactic, to convince families to keep their loved ones locked away for more time. "They aren't ready. Need a 4th month." Here's another interesting thought: every single client is initially recommended 3 months in treatment. For these 3 months, staff plays like they are thinking about each individual the whole time - but then somehow, by some miracle, every. single. client. Is recommended a 4th month, and it's the same price as the others; EXCEPT, the clients who they already know will not be able to afford a 4th month, never seem to need one. Every. Time. It's just amazing. And as any reasonable person would imagine: no one will believe a client's word over Staff, especially a client who was court ordered, which very many are. There will never be any winning for you, while in treatment, over the wise words, circular arguments, and many years of 'Sobriety' claimed by staff. I started drinking as a child at 10, then as often as possible through 12 and 13, substances later, I spent 15 years around AA, eventually staying sober for 10. I also went here. How many of you people, who leave 5 star reviews for this place, because "you've been referring people a long time", can say any of that. Where are all the 20-year sobers. In a 90-year old program. Don't kid yourselves. I will not stand to be disrespected by anyone from this place again.

If you do not use the 12 steps given how do you expect the staff to treat you how you want to be treated and respect your boundaries. Actions & more actions! Faith without works is dead. 2 weeks after I graduated I was asked to be multiple peoples sponsor. I thank my boss eternally for the biggest act of self love gift of being in this intensive healing program at Makana.

i was a patient at St David's Rehabilitation Hospital on 32nd Street after a 13 hour spine surgery…read morewith spinal fluid leakage and paralysis on my right side. I spent five days in the ICU. After several days inpatient at Ascension Seton during which I had large amounts of spinal fluid leaking through my bandages I was eager to get to St David's to begin my recovery. I had been to St David's Rehabilitation Hospital in 2022 with excellent recovery after cervical spine surgery and two weeks of physical therapy and delicious meals three times a day. I spent four to five hours a day in physical and occupational therapy. I wanted to recover with them after my difficult procedure. I was once again very happy with my rehabilitation. My doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and other staff couldn't have been more skillful, caring, and kind. Go here, if you want great care and excellent rehabilitation. You'll be very happy during and after your rehabilitation.

The food here is pretty good too, and they offer free parking for visitors of folks staying -- ask the nurses at the charge desk and they'll point you to the QR codes to scan and validate. Do note that the elevators/front door lock after 7p so you have to call your contact there to get help from the nursing staff if you try to visit later than that, but otherwise it's easy to navigate.

You could maybe benefit if you happen to be paired with one of the tiny percentage of therapists who have any discernible degree of competence (they do exist--my Friday group therapist was a blessing), but you'll be paying an absurd amount for treatment compared to others in the area, and their billing department will make you want to bash your head through a window. Don't trust the estimate they give you/double check with your insurance yourself before committing. if you have bipolar disorder--run. Literally no one I spoke to had any real understanding of the diagnosis and I was even given treatment recommendations that are known to cause mania. One of my individual therapy sessions consisted of the therapist ranting about how confused she was that I wasn't improving (which made me feel so great and hopeful!) My group therapist repeatedly taught concepts inaccurately. She also snapped at me for not participating in an activity that had caused me to go into a panicked/dissassociative state. Spoiler alert: no one checked in to see if I was ok or gave me any support to actually complete an activity that I found to be incredibly difficult emotionally. Just one of soooo many missed opportunities to actually work through problems. Process groups were consistently utter chaos, and when I brought up my concerns about it, I was asked why *I* hadn't spoken up and redirected the conversation. I showed up to Pathlight to be treated, not to facilitate my and my group's treatment. Every concern I had was met with "you need to advocate for yourself better," then when I did speak up, I was made to look like a crazy irate maniac. You'll have to ask for things multiple times to (possibly) get them. Asked my individual therapist for a referral 3 times before just giving up. At the end of my horrendous time there, I had a meeting with the clinical manager to address some issues. I was told I'd get to talk to my individual therapist about the issues the next day and my group therapist the next week. Never got pulled by my individual therapist the next day, and my email to the clinical manager asking if she had spoken to them never got a response. The only insightful conversation I had with my therapist was about how to define happiness/fulfillment while depressed, and I was promised an activity that explored that idea. I was later handed a printout of a children's picture book about a little girl searching for happiness and learning it was inside of her all along. I mean, come on. In my last session, my therapist even said "you can't really learn and use new skills if you're in the state you're in" -- as if I hadn't just spent 2 months of my life and thousands of dollars to learn how to use coping skills even when I'm not well. She didn't have a response when I asked her why I was in the treatment program if that's the case. It was just let down after let down, and I was always to blame. I would never go back, and never would've shown up in the first place if they had accurately estimated my total bill. So many more problems I could bring up, but all in all I was utterly disappointed by the program and had to deal with more issues than I've ever experienced in a treatment setting. Complete negligence & incompetence all around.
