The menu is not marked as gluten free, so I took a gamble re: cross contamination. I ended up fine by the end of the meal, but ask your questions and proceed according to your own needs. We got the salsa flight (6 different salsas with house-made corn tortilla chips). Very good. I liked the pineapple and green salsa best. My husband liked the smoky adobo version. The kids shared the quesadilla from the adult appetizer menu and it was plenty for two. The adults had tacos. Lots of meat on the carne asada street tacos even though the shells are small. The other tacos are NOT small. Very generous portions for the quesabirria and the shrimp tacos. Everything tasted great and fresh. Make sure to squeeze the lime on the shrimp. *chef's kiss* Our server was friendly and quick. The decor in the place is colorful and cute. The margaritas looked great, but since we were driving, I had to pass this time. This place is a true gem.

The red sauce was okay, but not my favorite. It tasted a lot like the red sauce from Del Taco. The rice and beans were great. It was hard to judge the salsa or carne asada since there didn't seem to be much of either of those. The ambiance was super cute. I loved the huge patio with tons of outdoor seating. The server was polite, and even asked me if I needed a fork, which I did. The location is great, especially if you are visiting for river based activities. It's maybe about a mile away from the waterfront, and close to a lot of other Hood River businesses. Stopped by here recently for some carne asada nachos, and they were really good…read more El Cuate is located in the Rosauers shopping center, next to the laundromat. The ambiance is pretty typical for a hole in the wall taqueria. Customer service was great. My food took just long enough to come out to know that it was fresh. For $13, the portion was pretty big. The nachos were topped with carne asada, beans, cheese, cabbage slaw, Pico de Gallo, crema, avocado, and green sauce added by me. The carne asada was some of the best I've found around here so far. Actual little pieces of chopped skirt steak, not ground beef (like some other places). The rest of the toppings were all legit. I loved that the amount of toppings was perfect for each chip to be smothered. I loved the flavor of the cabbage slaw. I'm not normally a big fan of cabbage, and I don't think I've ever had slaw on nachos before, but this was delicious. The crema, Pico de Gallo, and avocado were all perfect. My only issue was that some of the cabbage slaw and avocado kind of tasted like fish, as if someone had plated fish just before putting my nachos together, with the same gloves. Still I thought these nachos were pretty bomb overall and would definitely want to come back to try their tacos and burritos.
