We stopped here looking to have a bite before exploring the Ruby Ghost Town. We were looking for a fun, laid back experience and we found it here. The food was decent, nothing gourmet but that's not what we were after. I had a quesadilla and a beer and my friend said her cheese burger was fantastic. We put some George Strait on the jukebox and enjoyed the heck out of ourselves. The waitress was so nice, too.

Current hours. The other photo is old an no longer accurate.

If you're coming to Arivaca this is about the only choice besides a sonoran dog truck. I wanna try that place too. Place is busy and only a bartender to take orders. So she's very busy too. We beat the big group so time to food was not bad. Waitress aka bartender was pleasant considering all the customers. Food was okay. Beer was cold. Patio is nice. It's a nice place to stop.

The cantina is as tried and true as it gets. It's open every day and every night but if you miss even a moment, something will have happened while you're away. Something is always happening here. There's a big jukebox which stands proudly in the corner of the bar by the pool table and you will hear everything from Linkin Park to Alan Jackson to Pat Benatar to Al Green. And you will more than likely be surprised at who chooses these tracks as you see 60 year-old hippies playing air guitar to Guns'N'Roses. This place keeps you on your toes. There's a pool table and on Thursday nights, there are tournaments. Hop on in, don't be shy, but beware of the sharks (they are a plenty). There's also free internet (the only place in town with wifi except for the Arivaca Library). If you're hungry this is going to be your best bet to grab something to eat in Arivaca, though know that the bartender is also the bouncer, cook, technical support, and counselor of the establishment so be patient. The burger will all the fixins is a good staple with cheese, bacon, veggies, and green chile. All your food will be microwaved but it's surprisingly good. The Cantina also doubles as a liquor store so if you need to buy a bottle or six-pack of something, you can do that here and leave with it. It also doubles as an ATM - if you're paying with a credit card, they will charge you a flat 20 dollars but then give you cash back. They don't get charged a fee and you get cash. Win win. Most everyone at the Cantina is going to be welcoming and down to earth. Note that there are some (mostly harmless but annoying) drunkards. Also, there's a pretty good mix of people which means that on any given night there will be a Rebel, a hippie, a butch lesbian, a cowboy, an african-american-german, a New York Lawyer, a No More Deaths activist, and an ex-military dude. I'm not sure how everyone gets along but they mostly do. If you disagree with someone you can talk to them and everyone is open to a conversation and will tone it down if they're offending you. (this town is pretty much free of Border Patrol and militia due to some rough history a ways back - the town did a good job of making them feel unwelcome). You really have to come here at least once. In the winter you can even build a fire outside and in the summer you can people-watch on the patio and catch some live bands. This place is absolutely nuts but if you're a little nuts (and I am) you'll feel right at home.

Great St. Paddy's Day at the bar. Sat on the patio and listened to Western swing band Way Out West. Good time.

La Gitana is "gypsy" in Spanish. Arivaca comes from the 9000 acre La Aribac ranch (a Pima Indian word for "small springs). 1850's. Charles Poston. Heintzelman Mining. History. Blah. Blah. What ev. It has nothing to do with La Gitana Cantina in Arivaca, Arizona- about 70 miles south and west of Tucson. Arivaca is a cool and strange little town, for sure, and a nice ride out of Tucson through some pretty unspoiled desert. I'm pretty sure Arivaca is a town filled with vampires, or skin walkers...all nice and friendly normal- ranchers, vaqueros, hunters, miners and marijuana growers by day, but then at night...You know, like that bar in "From Dusk til' Dawn." That's what I imagine anyways, as I drink my cold draft Pacifico and have a shot of Hornitos while soaking sun on the patio. It's nice. Real nice. Too nice. I like this place though. Always good service, cold beer and friendly regulars. I've never been here at night, but legend has it there is sometimes live music. There is one pool table inside and darts on the patio. Here is my old man caveat: there is a Homeland Security checkpoint on highway 286, which is kind of a popular corridor for smugglers of both humans and drugs. Eh, that's why I haven't traveled it at night. Not because I'm a gutless coward, but because I'm an OLD gutless coward who has used up almost all his get out of jail "free" cards. I'm sure it's fine, but I like my hassle free day drinking. And don't forget- vampires...scary, scary vampires.

    Nice place to kick back.

If you're exploring Arivaca, AZ area - this is a 'must stop'. Great homemade potato salad!! Friendly service. Burgers were tasty. Hot chips and cold salsa are the best in town.

One of the best bars in the West. Good burgers, cold beers, live music and the old rustic charm.

It turned out to be as totally amazing as it looks in the pictures! The space is something I could easily write about at length - it was gorgeous! The entire restraunt is decked out with melty column candles, sparkling colorful glass hanging from the ceiling and a lovely variety of colorful low lights that gives the entire place is very classy, mellow artistic Bohemian atmosphere. Our server Nestor was fantastic. He was incredibly attentive, helped answer a lot of questions that I had about the menu, and took excellent care of my mom even bringing her a special slice of cheesecake for her birthday. Their chips and salsa were amazing! The chips are huge, which was kind of cool. It helped me with portion control because it reminded me that a tortilla chip is literally made from A tortilla, so seeing them in such big slices actually caused me to think about how many chips I would normally stuff in my mouth. I guess that's my weird diet tip ha ha! We started with the Chicharrones and also ordered a side of Guacamole. The Chicharrones were huge, fluffy, perfectly crispy and delicious. The guacamole was unique and that it featured roasted Pepita's and dried cranberries. This gave it a sweet with a little extra crunch note that was cool and next time I make guac at home, I'm totally going to add those things in as it made it a cut above. The menu is robust and has a lot of great options for entrées at different price points. I had the Fillet Sosa, which was a ribeye topped with Asadero Menonita cheese and smothered in their Salsa Verde. The steak was perfectly medium, rare and incredibly flavorful. I enjoyed the salsa Verde, although I may would've went a little bit lighter on it.m - and ya'll, the cheese was just to die for! The dish was accompanied with rice and beans. Both were good. The beans were creamy and had a traditional flavor. For dessert, I had the Elvira's Flan Custard. I loved how unique the flavor was. It featured a touch of orange liquor, Napoleon Mandarin and vanilla bean. It was accompanied with a handful of honey roasted nuts, which added a cool texture to this otherwise incredibly creamy dish. Overall, the food is totally worth the trip from Tucson and if you're in the area and want to have a special place to celebrate an occasion with an amazing atmosphere check out a virus I know I'll for sure be back but my mom is very happy about!

What can I say that hasn't already been said by all the adoring fans of Elvira's?…read more In Tubac exploring and I'd always wanted to go to Elvira's so we made a reservation after stopping in during our art walk. Came back for dinner and ****CHEF'S KISS**** the most incredible, unique dinner I've had in forever. Started with drinks. I had the Labios Ardientes - a delightful mezcal drink and my guy had a boring rum & coke. I sipped and savored the drink throughout my evening - it was strong. We ordered chicharrones to start - very good. My guy is not that adventurous so he had the grilled ribeye and it truly was perfect. I selected the hazelnut mole and have NEVER had a mole like it; very rich and exquisite. Somehow I managed to finish it all because I knew it would not be as good reheated at home. Impeccable service, incredible atmosphere and we even had some entertainment - a duo that played guitar and sang. Very soft, very calming and enjoyable. Elvira's is definitely a treat and I highly recommend it.

I've been going there for about 10 years, and without fail, their seafood is always consistently delicious. Although most of the locals are probably very aware of this small yet mighty restaurant, it's tucked away in an unassuming location - it doesn't look like much from the outside, but as they say, "Don't judge a book by its cover." I always order the large ceviche, which comes with tostadas, and I also get a side of warm tortillas. When I get that large bowl in front of me, I just can't wait to dig in. But first, I absolutely must put a couple of drizzles of their out-of-this-world made-in-house tamarind hot sauce on top of each bite. I can't begin to describe how amazing this sauce is - just a little sweet, but hot enough to burn your face off. What makes it amazing is it's flavor is so unique and complex. One time I visited, and I saw that there wasn't any hot sauce on the table. I asked the server and he said that they were in the middle of making a new batch. After telling him that I came all the way from Florida for their sauce (and ceviche, of course), the owner came by and sold me a couple of jars of the deliciousness. We had a great conversation about their food, their hot sauce, and how much love they put into their 30 year plus establishment. Back to the food - the shrimp in the ceviche is perfectly bite-sized and always tender, in perfect proportion to all of the other ingredients. The liquid is delicious enough to slurp up at the end of the bowl. I also started ordering the fried shrimp tacos the last few times I went to La Ley. A small plate comes with a simple warm tortilla and perfectly breaded fried 2-3 pieces of shrimp. Their sauces and toppings bar has everything you need to complete the taco - pickled onions, cilantro, tomatoes, onion, etc. With some of their creamy sauce and more of the tamarind hot sauce, each bite is a moment in heaven. Like the ceviche, the shrimp is tender, the breading is fluffy, not oily, and when you put together spicy, creamy, salty, sweet, and sour, you've got one of the most satisfying dishes I can think of. Clearly, I love this place. As I sit here writing this over a thousand miles away (having just visited), I wish I was back in Nogales to visit La Ley.
