There is a backstory on how I ended up here. My first time in Copenhagen and determined to eat…read morelocal, the breakfast dish that kept showing up in my search was Øllebrød (Danish beer/rye bread porridge). It pops up in many foodie searches but it turns out to be difficult to find. On the taxi ride in from the airport, the driver told me he had eaten it as a child but no one spends the time to make it anymore. He did not think I would be able to find it. Menu searches for it show that most of the restaurants that were reviewed for serving it have now gone out of business. By luck, I happened upon the Nimb Brasserie. This place serves as the Nimb Hotel restaurant and the hotel appears to be a very nice, boutique style place that I wished I was staying at instead of the big box chain behemoth hotel just down the road. The location is next door to Tivoli amusement park and the brasserie outdoor deck area overlooks the fun. Inside, it has a restored but historic feel. I was there at breakfast when a full breakfast buffet was on offer and is what typical hotel guests are offered. Øllebrød is not part of the buffet. Normally, Øllebrød is only on their room service menu. They made a couple of exceptions for me as I was not staying at the hotel ordering room service and I was not interested in the full buffet. The staff (particularly Abby and Destiny) made an exception for me when they found out that I was specifically there on a Øllebrød pilgrimage. That was exceptional, customer centered service and a job well done in showing me the best that Copenhagen has to offer. As for the Øllebrød, it was creamy, malty, nutty, and even hinted of chocolate like a good pint of Guinness! It was quite enjoyable on a cold morning and I don't usually like cereal based breakfast foods. I can't believe it is so hard to find this dish in Denmark. I do recommend it if you get the chance to stay here and order room service. This was a really enjoyable visit for me to the Nimb Brasserie, albeit singularly goal oriented. I was there for 1 room service menu item and nothing else. I was thankfully impressed at how the staff accommodated me for this and I found the setting to be such a nice place to take in some local people watching. Based on all of that, I would love to stay at The Nimb on my next visit and would definitely be happy to eat Øllebrød again even if I have to get it from room service!

Great combination of flavours, but again too little. There was only one jerusalem artichoke at the size of my thumbnail. 3) Créme brûlée - Pleasant, but not exciting... and again: quite small. If it wasn't for the bread, I'd probably grab a kebab afterwards. I understand that they should make the dishes cost efficient for this offer ... but come on! The decoration was "aristocratic"! Luxurious furniture... of a past century, hence not so comfortable anymore. Overall it was a very nice experience and I'm glad I went there. I will probably revisit some time in the future. (what?! is that possible in Copenhagen?!) After sorting out the confusion of the ordering process, we found that dinner is a pre-fixe menu of 3 courses meant to be shared between two people. Hold on. If you're thinking, we're supposed to SHARE dishes at a French restaurant where courses are traditionally small to begin with? (we were proven wrong, in fact, we had leftovers) The food is casual and uncomplicated. We had foie gras to start, simply salted and served with pickled plums and grilled bread. I can't get foie gras in California so it's always a priority when I travel! For our main course, a very hearty braised pork shank with carrots, leeks and root vegetables. This comes with mashed potato and French green beans. Dessert was a divine assortment of molten chocolate cake, creme brulee and ice cream. You'll be opening your belt a notch to accommadate your expanded waistline ;-) The street Værnedamsvej is lined with French cafes, small specialty stores and this restaurant seamlessly folds itself into the mix being a former butcher shop. Three or four stars? It's a tough question when it comes to this place but I end up giving it four…read morestars instead. Why did I even consider three? - It's a trendy place so there were lots and lots of people there when we tried our brunch there on a Sunday morning. Although we didn't have to wait long for our table, online table booking would have been more convenient. Seriously, what's up with these brunch places - you can be strict and say you would hold table for 15 minutes only and I am sure people would appreciate that. - Noise level was absolutely bad, see #1. It's a big open place inside and since there were lots of people and they were all talking, we could hardly have a conversation inside, let alone hygge, but fortunately the food was good enough of a distraction - Super greasy bacon. Seriously, if you claim to be a brunch place, do your bacon right. I like the smokey flavour but the shit was literally dripping with oil. Kinda disgusting to pick up from the plate and now for the positive sides: I love that there are more and more brunch places with this concept where you mix and match your own stuff. All the stuff they had in their menu (would like to try the asparagus but they didn't have that!) sounded so scrumptious that we felt like we had to try it all and we did (almost all). My personal favourites would be the soft-boiled egg and the waffle, although Mina K also swore by the sunny side up egg (spejlæg). The item that I was looking forward the most (avocado) turned out to be a big disappointment. More flavour please. Although there were so many people on that day, the service was very prompt and efficient, we got our table relatively fast considering that there were 6 names ahead of us and the food came quick too. My cortado was delicious although it was somewhat weak. All in all, service was quick and painless. I might want to try this place again on a not weekend morning, or maybe later in the afternoon when there's more relaxed atmosphere around this place. Sunday morning brunch gave us bad vibes since they were a lot of people waiting to get their brunch and the stressed out waiters and waitresses didn't help. You do not order to the waiter, but fill out the paper sheet by crossing off on the menu what you and your table desire, so in summary you actually design your own menu. The place offers a lot of different things, but mostly the place is for breakfast/ brunch and maybe lunch.. They offer different style eggs, sausages, youghurt, müsli, fruit etc., and each little dish cost between 20-50 kr.. The food is served in these little ceramic, stylish plates. I would recommend their poached egg, the avocado, grape fruit and their delicious coffee. I am very found of the place and it is worth a visit. One advice is to come early during the weekend, or make reservations, because the place is packed.

The almond croissant was average sized by CPH standards and cost 20-25kr. It won't get any cheaper outside, and it's surprisingly cheap for Torvehallerne. Quality: I've been to the cafe adjacent to the Copenhagen Library where they're famous for their almond croissant too. This one is just as good, if not better, and is cheaper. Also helps that it's in a prime location if you want to pregame or post-game the dessert!
