    pan francés
    Gina L.

Swung by on a Saturday around 6:30am, and it was bustling with construction workers getting tortas and dulces for the day. Grab a pair of tongs + cafeteria tray, and go crazy at the packed cabinets! $0.35/telera (pan francés aka french bread) $0.80 for any pastry $1/barquillos - concha was good, but there are varying amounts of sweet topping so choose your concha from the cabinets wisely - telera was pillowy and soft, although the edges were a teeny bit dry - perhaps it was the one I got, but the center was fantastic; they're not in the cabinets, but in an ice cream cooler-like contraption - sweet empanada had a creme filling (similar to those of Boston creme donuts) that was crunchy on the edges and soft in the middle, nicely coated in sugar - I think this counted as my barquillos (?) also known as a coyota (??) ... ?????? There's a decent amount of fat/shortening in the flaky pastries, and the ones that survived the parking lot and drive home, I popped in my toaster oven so they could crisp up. The ones with a sugar dusting were particularly awesome, because they formed a sweet, caramelized crust. I didn't get a torta, but they looked damn good. I saw a huge row of them being assembled, and they were being maxed out with toppings. This was my first pan dulce trip (but definitely not my last), so I unfortunately don't have anything to compare this too. However, they had so many things (torta and filled pastries) I didn't try, so La Flor de Puebla, I will be back! I feel like this bakery doesn't check their reviews on here because they know their worth and have a solid customer base that keeps coming back, which has to count for something. Also, they have a window on the side of the building where you can see them prepare the breads (at least in the morning), which I thought was cool! Over $5 for a credit card purchases

From the long line of construction workers waiting to pay to the lady over the counter taking torta requests, this place felt a lot like home in Los Angeles. I've just started my search for the best conchas in the DMV and La Flor de Puebla has shown a strong start. The conchas are decently delicious and fresh. I ordered over thirty for an event and the taste and freshness was consistent. I did venture into other pan dulces and I could not say the same, hence 4 stars. But also because the concha itself, although good, was not perfect. You know, a perfect concha with dough that's well seasoned with canela and a cookie/sugar crust that just melts in your mouth in every bite. Nevertheless, the selection of bread in this locál has a good balanced (although I did not see any elotes, which is a must for any Latinx bakery in my opinion). I'll definitely return to try one of those tortas and maybe another concha, too.

I was sad because my churro broke. :-(

I am not the biggest fan of dulces but I stopped by and wasn't disappointed. Tried their quesadilla and it was pretty good. In fact everything was pretty good and not expensive either. They also have imported drinks and chips along with their The minimum order for a card payment is 5 bucks.

La Flor de Puebla is a Mexican bakery that has several locations in the DC metro area. They offer various cakes, breads, pastries, and even an option to do custom-order cakes. There are also balloons, some snacks (chips up at the front), as well as some drinks (like smoothies and fruit drinks). The hubs and I stopped by, as we were in the area, and decided to check them out to grab some desserts to-go. When you walk in, you grab a tray from the pile by the cashier with a pair of tongs - I suggest in you requesting a piece of parchment paper to lay your selections on (as I don't like the idea of just laying the pastries on the tray itself!). There is a glass case with trays of a variety of pastries, as well as baker's racks of freshly-prepared breads set in the middle of the bakery. The place is small, so maneuvering around the racks and the patrons is an art :P We tried out some of their sugar cookies, a pastry pan filled with custard cream, and a layered dessert with some jam filling within. They tasted pretty okay, not too sweet, and fresh. Once you're done with your selections, you just stand in line and the cashier will wrap these up for you (they do take card as well). Just note that this bakery is a to-go only, as there are no seats. +fresh, Mexican cakes, breads, and pastries +individual tray-and-tong service +friendly staff +takes CC

This bakery is one of the reasons I moved to Riverdale.. well not really but it's great that it's only only 5 minutes from my house. They bake the best authentic mexican sweet bread in the area hands down! There are many imitators creeping up in the area but they don't compare. La Flor bakes their bread fresh each morning and evening, it's inexpensive (between 35cents to $1.00 depending on the type) rule of thumb is that any sweet bread which contains a filling of some sort (cheese, fruit, sweet cream) will cost more. Before I forget my favorite breads there are the empanadas which are filled with a pineapple fruity-not-too-sweet filling, and the cuernos (croissant)! My boyfriend likes the sweeter cookies and anything powdered or drizzled in sugar. As others have said this place is self serve, and you shop with your eyes.. in other words if it looks good.. get it! But don't leave this place without trying the plain "bolillo" bread which is usually in the bins to the right of the front door..(usually 4 for 1 dollar) they are great for sandwiches or as dinner rolls. La Flor also serves up freshly made "Mexican Tortas" milanesa (breaded beef), chicken, and ham sandwiches that have oaxaca cheese, jalapenos, tomato, lettuce, and avocado for only about $4. You order them at the counter and they will toast them in their panini grill to order. They also sell tres leches cake by the slice which you order at the counter or you can order a full cake for any special event. I have purchased their tres leches cake several times (they have small, medium, and large) I purchased the medium and it ran me about $35-40 it had the most delicious fruit (strawberries, bananas, peaches, pineapple) and was gone in no time! They have a small refrigerated section where they sell some mexican staples like queso fresco, crema, flan, mixed Jarrito drinks flavored sodas like tamarind, tangerine, apple cider. They do accept credit cards and from what I can see they don't require a limit to charge which is awesome since you can usually walk away with a full bag of sweet bread to last you a week for under $10.

I normally love this panadería. It is extremely clean & has a variety of pan to buy. However, the customer service lately has been terrible. I came in today to make an order for a $130 cake and J***** was the worker assisting me and she had such a pompous and arrogant attitude. While explaining to her what I wanted she kept telling me "well hopefully this comes out well" since she wasn't the baker or decorater. Mind you, I came last year with the same amount of ideas for decoration and the young lady, whose name i forget, was extremely helpful that she even drew a picture so the bakers could understand my vision. I cancelled my order after being there for about 25 minutes and left highly disappointed. I attempted to call the customer service number posted at the cash register, and was unable to talk to a representative or leave a message. I would also like to add that this is not my first times leaving La Flor de Puebla after an interaction with J***** . The last time was while there was still a number of people who could enter due to the pandemic so figured her nasty attitude was due to that. Today , it was confirmed that her attitude is just extremely ugly and had discouraged a loyal customer from returning.

I always prefer coming to this bakery for my pan frances (French bread) because 99% of the time the bread is sooo fresh and soft. Most of the pan Frances in other bakeries are too hard or stale, but not here. They also have variety of cakes, sweet bread, and even Mexican sandwiches (tortas). My fav place to come for fresh bread!

I decided to try this bakery on a whim to pick up some items for breakfast. When I walked in, no one greeted me but a few customers looked at me curiously. I was the only non-Spanish speaking person in there. Anyway, I looked around and noticed various breads and pastries in a glass case. I didn't know the process until a guy walked in, grabbed a tray and tongs and started grabbing items out of the cases. I followed suit. I selected three items and went up to the register to pay. It came to $2.97. I couldn't believe it. When I got home, I tried the two sweet treats. The pineapple one was my favorite. The other one was a bit dry in places. My mother said the croissant was kind of dry as well. But she made up for it by making a sandwich with egg and salmon with a little mustard. Overall, it wasn't a bad place. Customer service could be better. It appears as if they only cater to Hispanic people. The food is ok but not excellent. I probably wouldn't return.

Tres (3) leches cake. Top and bottom same flavor, moist cake. It supposed to feed 80 people but this one you can easily feed 100.

I cant believe that this was only my third visit. Ever since I read about Manifest Bread opening…read moreshop in Riverdale, I've meant to visit but kept forgetting to until a couple months ago and now I will make a more concerted effort to stop by on my day off. Manifest Bread not only has a neat variety of menu options but, the ambiance!!! It's a cool interior, clean bathrooms, and AMAZING STAFF! I've come twice for breakfast and once for their jambon beurre sandwich. My first breakfast included: - sweet potato bialy: interesting-in-a-good way grouping of ingredients and the crust was crisp - biscuit with butter & jam: biscuit was flaky, crisp, and yet doughy; the right amount of butter, and jam provided tartiness/refreshing bite - olive oil cake: no complaints! My second breakfast included: - biscuit with butter & jam: a must have! - basque cheesecake: I have to be in the mood for cheesecake and I'd aay it was "light and airy" but may not be the best judge here - cardamom bun: last 2 times I came here, the cardamom bun was coated in a thick white frosting, but this time, it was different, so i HAD to go for it and for a fan of cardamom, this was superbub! ABUNDANT amountof cardamom and right amount of moistness! I would have ordered a bialy again but new I was going to have a big lunch so will get it next time. The jambon beurre sandwich was not what I had expected as it was more...flavourful and salty than I would have preferred as I like a plain butter and ham on a baguette sandwich...however, you can taste the quality of the meats used. UPDATE: Went back for breakfast and this time got the mulled apple cider and: - onion poppyseed bialy: I did not need creamcheese with this and it was fine, but if you eat the crust with butter and the apple butter - yum. Crust was on the tough-chew side, but flavor profile was good. Now that I've had it again, will stick to the biscuit. - morning bun: very flaky, crisp, snd the sugar just got all over and me being a messy eater, I felt like I got the sugar all over me and sticky, too. Flavour was great, buuuut... - buttermilk biscuit with butter and apple butter: yum!!!!

Parking is challenging at peak times. The selection of baked goods is varied and fresh. The line to buy items can get long. There's a decent-sized space to "eat-in", should you want. The sweet potato/chili/pistachio bialy is quite a creation, really like it, zings big time. I've never seen that flavor combo in a bialy before and hope they keep making it. The gingerbread with meyer lemon glaze has a very deep ginger flavor that's quite memorable. Not as keen about the breads. The community sandwich loaf is too plain for me and the sourdough breads are tame.

The Graham cracker crust was too sweet and a bit too thick. Very nice to look at. Cobbler pieces were delicious and made well. Brown butter Cinnamon Roll Plenty of pecans on top, which was appreciated. I also loved that they weren't skimpy on the frosting. There wasn't enough brown butter or something went awry because you couldn't even taste the nutty earthiness that comes from browning butter. While the roll was soft, it had a strong yeasty taste. Good amount of cinnamon inside. Out of all of the items this was the best. Maple Red Velvet Cupcake Overly sweet. The combination of the alcohol and the maple syrup resulted in a way too sweet to consume cupcake. The red velvet just okay. This was the opinion of 3 different people that tasted the cupcake. Buttercunch Mini Cheesecake I liked the Biscoff cookies on top. The cheesecake was overly dense. The cream cheese was not blended well enough. The caramel on top was nice. I'm a cheesecake snob so I have high expectations. Service was excellent. Store is only setup for Carryout. Menu rotates each week, check their website the night before for the menu. I love a rotating menu. Only open on the weekends, again check their social for hours of operation. All in all I spent over $100 and it wasn't worth it to me.
