I've since become quite a couch potato in recent years, and wanted to get back into training in a safe and sustainable way. I've had too many false starts where I would hop back into a strenuous regime and skip gym days because of extreme soreness or disappointment. The owner, Geoff, convinced me this was the right place. The good: A training paradise. Tons of the best gear, including hard-to-find things like battle ropes and a sled. Never having to fight for space to train. Super knowledgable staff that are just fun to be around. Fun and varied routines that got me back on track and feeling confident by the end of the month. Everything is clean, tidy, odour free. The bad: I can see cost being an issue for some people. I'd suggest talking to the staff to see what works best for your fitness goals.

May the force (i.e. Protein) be with you.... Whether you're a budding star athlete or a joe schmoe looking to improve your body composition, Bang Fitness can help you with physical development needs. I've had the privilege of training with Geoff and his great staff at Bang during my time in Toronto and I've definitely noticed some changes in my physical form, energy and mentality. While it wasn't all roses all of the way, they made some great strides over the past year in their staff, facilities and programming. Seriously these guys are ready to rock. I'm happy with the changes I've seen in myself and I'm keen to continue my progress even though sadly I'll be leaving these good people behind. Whereas before I used to bellyache about lifting heavy weights or pushing massive objects I now find myself relishing round after round of sweaty punishment! What makes Bang awesome: 1. People come here to work. There's two main options for gym-goers here: semi-private training under the guidance of several coaches or regularly scheduled classes such as kettle bells or metabolic circuits. Each visit, I see gym goers of all ages strutting their stuff and pushing their limits. Vanity gym bunnies: check your egos at the door. 2. Old school programming. Prowlers, bumper plates, kettlebells...all the good stuff is here. You worried about form? They'll show you the basics and graduate you on to harder exercises along your journey. Long term success is not compromised for short term results. 3. Passionate and down to earth staff. They'll let you know if you can perform that set with a heavier weight. They're concerned about your movement but they also want to see you working to your fullest potential as well. Caveats? There are a couple. The shower and change rooms are small and merely ordinary. In fact, the whole space will come as a let down to anyone used to training in a boutique gym environment. Substance and functionality before style. And yes, it's expensive. Bang is by no means cheap but the prices are reasonable for what you get in return. You could bang it out (no pun intended) on the machines at your local Goodlife but you would not get nearly the amount of personalized attention and advice at this independent outfit. If you're serious about making some gains in your physical fitness, check these guys out!

***REPOSTING THIS REVIEW***…read more AS THE BUSINESS OWNER HAS REMOVED IT! THIS IS THE EXACT SAME REVIEW THAT WAS INITIALLY POSTED - SEEMS THE OWNER DOESN'T WANT PEOPLE KNOWING HOW HE TREATS OTHERS. DEFINITELY WORTH A READ! On January 31st, 2019 I had parked my vehicle in the back plaza of Emre Canatan's business "Quest Health & Performance" located at 231 Wallace Avenue, Toronto. All the businesses in the plaza share a rear parking lot and I was going to a business in the plaza. Toronto had just had a snow storm a few days ago and there were large piles of plowed snow everywhere. After coming out from my appointment, I witnessed a meter of fresh snow on top of my vehicle's roof, front windshield and hood. While I was brushing off the snow from my vehicles roof, a balding and vertically challenged man, baring a thick accent, came outside through the back door of a business called "Quest Health and Performance" and asked me " Is this your car?". I responded confirming that the vehicle under the mound of snow was indeed my car. The man then answers with "You cannot park here, it belongs to Quest!". I advised the man that I did not know that the spot "belonged" to Quest prior to parking there and then asked him if he had done this to my vehicle to which he then cowardly stated that he did not know who had done this but that I am not to park in "his spot" in the future. I asked the man his name to which he identified as "Emre". I advised Emre that I would be getting in touch with his boss in regards to what he had done. The business I was in, confirmed that "Emre" had entered the business aggressively in anger attempting to locate the individual that had parked in "his spot" to which the business advised it was likely an honest mistake and that he is not to interact with their clients however he is more than welcome to park in any of their spots in the back. Emre caused damage to my passenger-side windshield wiper which was bent due to the amount of snow that was placed on top of the vehicle's wipers. I had to buy new a new set of wipers. Surprisingly, it turns out that Emre Canatan is the owner of the business Quest Health & Performance. Instead of going to Toronto Police in regards to the mischief that occurred to my property, I figure it would be more useful to advise potential future customer's of the business' lack of professionalism when representing their business. In 2019, a hand written note expressing that you may not park in this spot is sufficient enough to get a message across. It is distasteful and concerning that the owner, while representing his own business would choose to deal with such a small misunderstanding by damaging someones property. Id' hate to see what else he is capable of. To those that are considering giving this business their money and time, I would strongly discourage it. As someone who is in the health field themselves, there are several other great facilities that do conduct their businesses honestly and professionally, treating members of the public with respect. I'm giving this business and it's owner a 1 star due to it's strongly distasteful "professionalism" or lack there of. I also gave it 1 star as there is no option to give it "no stars".

I got kicked out of a gym today. 40 minutes into my new membership with this gym…read more Discrimination is part of my lived black experience. I hate to say it but I'm unphased by being followed around the local convenience store, being ignored by taxi's when I'm trying to get home (thank goodness for uber), being refused service from various businesses for trivial made up reasons, getting shit service at the bank until they see my bank account. Overt prejudice is just a drop in the bucket at this point. What I'm not used to is discrimination at the gym. The gym has always been my personal escape and where I feel the most comfortable. My physical fitness has paid the price between our new home purchase, work hours and the last 2.5 years of chaos. I had a serious discussion with my partner about this and we both decided that prioritizing fitness would be the top of our mental health plan. The only way to do this would be to: a. Train away from work b At a studio where we could finally just be civilians and not business owners. Thursday I walked into Resistance Fitness . This gym is local and only a 12 minute walk from home . I went into the gym got a tour and I also got a run-down of the rules. I made a point to ask about the gym rules because as a fellow fitness professional I want to be sure I am respectful at all times. When I left I was giddy. FINALLY a place that was within walking distance of home. I could just be a civilian, not a coach, not a business owner. I could come in with my partner and just catch a workout and go home. This morning I went in. I signed up and put down all my details including that I am a fitness professional. I have no reason to hide that I chose fitness as my profession. I love what I do. 40 minutes into the workout I am aggressively approached by the owner and asked to step to the side. I am told that I'm personal training and that I have to leave right away. Confused I remind him that I own a personal training studio. If I wanted to personal train I would do it AT MY GYM. I'm here on a workout date with my partner. I looked around and there were 2 other couples working out as well. 15 minutes into our conversation my partner is now visibly upset I feel badly because I feel responsible for exposing her to this discrimination and the owner is in full gaslighting mode We are walked to the front. Refunded by cheque and gaslighted for another 10 minutes. What is amazing is Mikayla Flikweert the front desk person who earned her $15.50 by "outing us" for doing a couples workout doesn't even have the ability to look us in the eyes. Guilty much? End of story. Can there be a learning moment here? Perhaps? To the owner Michael Arabia (I know you'll be reading this): You own a private business. Create a policy that if you want to support your partner by working out with them you aren't allowed. Or perhaps create a policy that if you were unlucky enough to choose fitness as a profession you are not allowed to train there. Your approach was wrong and unfortunate. Anyway. It's a nice day, life is short and I'm not dwelling over this. If you are considering this gym please take a good long read of this review. Do a google search and read other reviews which sound very similar to mind.

I have to confess... I AM ADDICTED TO ORANGETHEORY FITNESS!!…read more I first heard of OTF when I was living in the US, it was advertised as "the best one-hour workout." I have to admit, I was pretty skeptical... how could a one-hour workout be that amazing? After moving to Canada, I finally gave OTF a try earlier this year and I must admit, IT IS the best one-hour workout I've ever had. The name Orangetheory comes from their fitness philosophy that focuses solely on your heart rate. There are five heart rate zones: grey, blue, green, orange, and red. Grey is like your resting heart rate, blue is like a light walk from the bedroom to the kitchen, green is like a relaxing walk around a park, orange is like a jog, and red is like a sprint. At OTF, the goal is for you to spend 12 of the 60-minutes workout in the orange (and/or red) zone. For each minute you spend in the orange and red zone, you will get one "splat point." Their theory is if you have at least 12 splat points, you will experience the "afterburn," where your body will continue to burn calories up to 36-hours after the workout. Since OTF is all about the heart rate, it puts everyone--from professional athletes to your average mom--at an equal playing field, because it is not about how many miles you run, how much power is behind your row, or how many pounds you could lift but purely on how many splat points you're able to get at the end of class. The heart rate monitor shows you how much you need to push yourself (or hold back if you're in the red zone). It is hard to describe the workouts as it differs each day based on its focus: either on power, strength, or endurance; and of course, there are days with special themes like "Everest" and "3-Group." The anticipation of not knowing what your workout will be is actually quite exhilarating. If I knew ahead of time, I may avoid going. ;) Essentially, the workout comprises of three components: 1) treadmill, 2) rower, and 3) floor. You will need to purchase a OTF heart rate monitor to wear while you workout so it could track your progress. You could use the heart rate monitor to track your out of studio workouts too--which I absolutely looooovvveeee!! As much as OTF is great for helping you lose weight, I joined because I thought OTF can help me condition for my runs (I am training for a half-marathon next year). In just a few weeks, I noticed my speed per kilometre has increased. This is amazing and the reason why I am addicted to OTF--BECAUSE IT WORKS! Now onto the cost... I agree with other Yelpers that OTF is EXPENSIVE. A basic membership is $89 and you only have 4 classes per month, Elite membership gives you 8 classes per month at $129, and Premier gives you unlimited for $179 (by the way, these prices are BEFORE tax). So yes... it is on the pricier side but here's my question: how much are you willing to pay for better health? Something to consider but I will honestly say: OTF is YOUR best one-hour workout! :)

First off I would like to start off by saying that this review is not a reflection of the trainers…read moreat the gym. I think they are fantastic and enthusiastic and find that they really care. However, my problem is with management. Paul seems great at first when he is trying to sign you up for a membership, but in the end it's all about the $$$ for him and this studio. I pay $90 a month including taxes for 4 classes a month as I currently have memberships to 2 other dedicated sport fitness facilities and can not justify spending another $200+ on the premium plan. $22.50 for an hour of class is not cheap, but I do it because the trainers are great and I enjoy being there. Today I showed up 6 minutes late (this is my first time ever coming late for the past 7 months since they opened) due to major construction on my street and both sides of the road being blocked by construction vehicles, and I was denied entry into the class. And I was not given the opportunity to come at a different time and just lost hat class, so in other words I just lost $22.50. I understand that policy is policy, however, policy needs to be consistent amongst all members. I have seen other members who (spend more money than me at the gym) be allowed to enter the class 10 minutes late. This is not good business practice. I don't care that they don't try to get to know my name even though I'm there once a week, what I do care about is knowing that I am not getting the same membership experience than those who willing shell out more money. No where in the membership comparisons does is say Basic members get less customer service than a Premium member. If it weren't for the trainers, this review would be a 1 Star. Don't go to this gym unless you're ready to pay $200+ a month, otherwise, you will be shafted.

The Good: Classes are really great. Instructors are helpful, attentive, they really pay attention…read moreto how you work out and advise you on your posture and push you to work harder if they think you can. It's never crowded, I think the max is 12 people but its normally less than that (6-10 I'd say), people who come are in all shapes and sizes and represent different fitness levels and atmosphere is nice and non competitive (nothing like your standard downtown fitness studio full of Bay street crowd dressed in Lululemon). Work outs aren't grueling but they are tough enough to break a good sweat and have some soreness the next day. They also change constantly and my biggest appreciation came from the fact they don't make you work in pairs like many other bootcamps do. There is an app where you can book/cancel classes/track your progress etc. The Not So Good: 24 hour cancellation policy seems a bit much as other reviewers have mentioned ($20 fine if you cancel without adequate notice). The amount of marketing emails and text messages is over the top. Package prices are a bit steep: Unlimited classes run at $240 per month. Package of 4 classes a month will set you back $107. Here's what put me off in the end: I got a Groupon deal for 2 months to try it out, I'm moving to the Junction soon so was trying out few places with the intention of signing up permanently and I kinda wanted to sign with The Motion Room 2 weeks after my Groupon deal expires (I'd be out of the country during that time) but they got pushy. First I got a text message asking me to schedule a call with them which I didn't want to do since I tend to be busy enough after work and I attend teleconferences in the office, so no I dont wanna schedule a call and have another thing to remember about. Few days later I was asked to stay after class and one of the trainers did sales pitch, showed me packages and prices, great, no problem at all, its expected they want me to sign up and pay full price after my promo expires. I thanked him and said I'd sign up shortly. Then again few days later a female trainer asked me to stay after class for the same thing, I said I already spoke to someone, she said lets talk again, I repeated the same thing, she started asking when will I know for sure I'll be joining and if I pay now they can apply the membership to the start date of my choice. I also mentioned I was concerned about 24 hr cancellation notice and she said if I get unlimited package I can just chose to lose a credit rather than $20, even though now after double checking I can see their website states the opposite so I assume I was bullshitted to lure me into signing up, then she pulled a notebook asking me when can they schedule a call, I said not necessary, she kept insisting on scheduling a call which in the end just pissed me off, too much freaking headache. What am I gonna find out during the call that you already haven't told me? I said I didn't have time for calls and she looked like she took it as an insult. That pushy interaction, her not listening to me put me off and I won't be coming back now. Do I recommend the place? Yes. If you live in the area or don't mind commuting a bit, if you have steady schedule, if you're looking for good work outs in smaller size classes then definitely go for it. It's evident Joseph, the owner, is very passionate about the business, I'd just make changes to how upselling is done and cancellation fee/notice.
