The Good: Classes are really great. Instructors are helpful, attentive, they really pay attention to how you work out and advise you on your posture and push you to work harder if they think you can. It's never crowded, I think the max is 12 people but its normally less than that (6-10 I'd say), people who come are in all shapes and sizes and represent different fitness levels and atmosphere is nice and non competitive (nothing like your standard downtown fitness studio full of Bay street crowd dressed in Lululemon). Work outs aren't grueling but they are tough enough to break a good sweat and have some soreness the next day. They also change constantly and my biggest appreciation came from the fact they don't make you work in pairs like many other bootcamps do. There is an app where you can book/cancel classes/track your progress etc. The Not So Good: 24 hour cancellation policy seems a bit much as other reviewers have mentioned ($20 fine if you cancel without adequate notice). The amount of marketing emails and text messages is over the top. Package prices are a bit steep: Unlimited classes run at $240 per month. Package of 4 classes a month will set you back $107. Here's what put me off in the end: I got a Groupon deal for 2 months to try it out, I'm moving to the Junction soon so was trying out few places with the intention of signing up permanently and I kinda wanted to sign with The Motion Room 2 weeks after my Groupon deal expires (I'd be out of the country during that time) but they got pushy. First I got a text message asking me to schedule a call with them which I didn't want to do since I tend to be busy enough after work and I attend teleconferences in the office, so no I dont wanna schedule a call and have another thing to remember about. Few days later I was asked to stay after class and one of the trainers did sales pitch, showed me packages and prices, great, no problem at all, its expected they want me to sign up and pay full price after my promo expires. I thanked him and said I'd sign up shortly. Then again few days later a female trainer asked me to stay after class for the same thing, I said I already spoke to someone, she said lets talk again, I repeated the same thing, she started asking when will I know for sure I'll be joining and if I pay now they can apply the membership to the start date of my choice. I also mentioned I was concerned about 24 hr cancellation notice and she said if I get unlimited package I can just chose to lose a credit rather than $20, even though now after double checking I can see their website states the opposite so I assume I was bullshitted to lure me into signing up, then she pulled a notebook asking me when can they schedule a call, I said not necessary, she kept insisting on scheduling a call which in the end just pissed me off, too much freaking headache. What am I gonna find out during the call that you already haven't told me? I said I didn't have time for calls and she looked like she took it as an insult. That pushy interaction, her not listening to me put me off and I won't be coming back now. Do I recommend the place? Yes. If you live in the area or don't mind commuting a bit, if you have steady schedule, if you're looking for good work outs in smaller size classes then definitely go for it. It's evident Joseph, the owner, is very passionate about the business, I'd just make changes to how upselling is done and cancellation fee/notice. read more

Been trying several gyms across Toronto over the years as I moved from neighbourhood to neighbourhood. I bought a one month groupon for The Motion Room that I FULLY used this winter (which is to say a lot, since I usually lose my motivation after about 2 weeks when it's cold outside, hah), and this ended up being one my favorite gyms in Toronto. The reason I didn't keep going is partly the cost, expensive although not shocking compared to other places; and mostly because this was a good 30 min walk from my place. It's a bit out of the way so unless you live around Runnymede/St Clair, not the most convenient location. But the instructors, all of them, are top notch, the workouts are great, hard but not overwhelming, and they make the effort of remembering you by name after your first class. It's a very friendly gym with a great community feeling and awesome customer service and I really wish I had been able to make this work (out). read more

The classes are great! The instructors really motivate you and push you, and I like how every class is different than the last yet equally challenging. My favourite classes were Cardio-AB-Use and Core. I highly recommend taking Rob Nardecchia's classes as he was an exceptionally amazing instructor. He makes class super fun and constantly encourages you. His passion for fitness truly radiates. That being said, there are 2 things I don't like about this gym. First, you must book all your classes in advance and there is a $20 fee if you don't provide a 24 hour cancellation notice. That means if you worked out really hard the previous day and all your muscles are sore and aching, you've got to show up the next day anyways. Too tired? Too bad. Not feeling well? Too bad. I agree that members should provide notice of cancellation so that no one's time is wasted, but it would be much better if it was 12 hours notice. I found myself planning my life around the classes, instead of incorporating the classes conveniently into my life schedule. It was very annoying to say the least. Secondly, the prices are VERY STEEP in comparison to other clubs around the area that also offer Group Fitness classes. I think it's much more worth it to go to a regular gym that offers group fitness classes. That way you can do the classes without the stress of having to book them in advance (and plan your whole life around them) AND you can also work out on your own time using the facility's equipment. I originally joined the motion room off of Groupon and within 2 months I had dropped 15 pounds (!!!). I couldn't have been happier with the friendly and knowledgeable trainers who push me to do my best while also being super encouraging. And I love their online booking system! I love this gym because I do not feel intimated at all. Members at TMR are respectful of everyone's fitness levels and also help you through those last few seconds of your plank! You can absolutely reach your fitness goals here no matter how big or small. My favourite classes are Meltdown with the foam rolling at the end and personal co-training. Their memberships after your Groupon offer are not planet fitness rates, but that's because you are getting a whole other experience. I usually gain weight in the winter and have stuck to only a modest 5 lb weight gain this winter because of TMR. I'm not an athlete but feel better and happier with my health now and can maintain a healthy weight. For anyone on groupon who is on the fence I would definitely recommend taking the plunge! Side note: after your Groupon trial, the gym offers 30 day and 90 cancellation plans....so if you have commitment issues just do the 30 day plan!! Gyms like Wynn and GoodLife also charge you the extra 3 months without proper notice when you cancel, so I'm not shocked by this industry standard. read more

Great trainers. They really engage with people and encourage clients. You get a great work out. But not very flexible scheduling. To reschedule a class/cancel, needs 24 hour notice or you loose your credit. Life is unpredictable, you can call/email but even not always possible. Bootcamp classes are generally very early in the day or very late. This gym fits a person with a 9-5, mon-friday schedule, if you work shift work or any non 9-5'ers, the schedule may not work for you. Great workout place! You get customized workouts to suit your own goals and level. The trainers teach you proper posture and pushes you. The staff are all really friendly and helpful if you have any questions. There are check in sessions which shows how you are progressing through the program. The programs definitely gives you results. read more
