We just had our sons Christening dinner last night. It was a very last minute ordeal and Sal the owner did everything in his power to make something happen. He had about 3 private party's that same day but still managed to set up 3 tables for us. The food is absolutely amazing and all the guests couldn't stop ranting about it. My friends and I had dinner there Saturday night. There were 8 of us. First we went to the bar. I bought a drink paid for it, left behind a generous tip ($4) for one drink. Later someone came to our table saying I needed to pay for my drink. I said I did I paid with a $20 bill and left behind 4 ones as a tip. He said okay. 5 min later TWO people come to the table, including bartender and another guy. Again I had to explain that I paid and the tip I left. The bartender recognized that she had received a tip of 4 ones and yes I must have paid. To have them come debate it at the table in front of all my friends a SECOND time is unforgivable and unprofessional. We all agreed we would probably not return even though we have been there several times and in fact the guy working there recognized us. To be accused TWICE of not paying? I regretted the 40% tip I had left at the bar. In addition there was a huge sweet 16 going on next to us which in turn cause the service to suffer. The shame is that the food was good but it was not worth everything we were put through. We will make another choice the next time. read more

Sal, the owner, was very kind and attentive from the start. He recommended some family style dishes and they were delicious. From the appetizers (fried calamari, baked clams, antipasto, and so much more) to the main dishes and different types of pastas ​(rigatoni broccoli rabe and sausage, penne a la vodka, veal francese, filet of sole oreganata, chicken and sausage), there were nothing but compliments from our family members and friends. Every dish was amazing and flavorful! My wife and I can't wait to come back for a date night and try out the other appetizing food choices from the menu. You have to check this restaurant out! We continue to be underwhelmed with the abundance of forgettable and over-priced eateries littering the central LI landscape. La Famiglia is no exception. Family-style portions traditionally feed a family, so how can a party of 3 leave feeling hungry after ordering 3 dishes? Mussels Marinara were truly tasteless and needed heavy seasoning. The bread basket was white, plain and boring. Pasta was okay but portioned very small for the money. Our server was flustered and sweating with just 2 tables to manage; water glasses were dirty and had to be exchanged. Add to this a ridiculously over-priced wine list, and a photo-style dessert menu that looked like a faded Polaroid from an old family album, and La Famiglia earns the "Dull Knife" award for lackluster. Also, having to valet park when the parking lot was virtually empty is just silly. As a side note: This is the first time we ever tasted mussels completely devoid of flavor. I mean completely. Remember the wax candy teeth you got on Halloween as a kid? Even they offered more flavor than this appetizer. Thank goodness for butter and salt. I came here with a party of 8 last week and had a great time! We have dined here in the past and is always a "go to" for larger tables. They have recently changed the menu so it is not just family style option, but also smaller plates which works out well if only one person in the group wants a certain dish. We were welcomed as soon as we came in and were given a nice round table which was perfect because it was roomy and we were all able to see each other. Diana was our server and she did a wonderful job explaining all of the specials to us. We took her recommendations on food selection and she helped us to order just the right amount of food. We started with the hot antipasto which has all of our favorite appetizers on it! It was huge LOL. We also ordered the bronzino which was presented to us and then freshly fileted in the kitchen and served with a yummy garlic and herb sauce, it was to die for. Had high hopes for this place but that went south when the food came. My wife and I ordered the steak for two along with a side of pasta with garlic and oil. Sad to say the steak had no flavor whatsoever and was so chewy (fat and muscle) that my wife couldn't fully eat one piece without spitting it out. The side of pasta was Small, bland and cold. When the bill arrived they charged $17 for the side of pasta even though the menu clearly states a side of pasta with a meal costs $8. We are a long time customer of the place but mostly in Smithtown location and we are never disappointed with service or quality of the food. Very good family style Italian food. Both their pasta and meat dishes are hearty and full of flavor. If you visit, make sure to come with plenty of people to give yourself an opportunity to sample as many dishes as possible. I came for a birthday party on a Sunday afternoon with a dozen or so people. We ordered a hot antipasto platter which had fried calamari, stuffed mushrooms, stuffed clams, steamed mussels and eggplant rolitini which really was very tasty. The waiter made enough for everyone and had it put on two large platters to serve on both ends of the table. We also tried a bunch of other meat and pasta dishes but a few of my favorites were a ravioli with bolagnase sauce and a chicken dish topped with prosciutto, spinich, mozzarella and roasted peppers in a marsala type of brown sauce with mushroons. I believe the chicken dish was a special but I'm sure that they can make it anytime. The place is a little on the pricier side but the food is very good and the service is excellent. read more

I must have driven by this place a thousand times. We were finally brought in by a gift certificate from a friend whose family frequents another location. So glad we finally made it in. We arrived around 915 and the place was packed. We were greeted by our waiter Ian who was awesome, even though we know the portions were huge we wanted to try a few things out. We started with the cold antipasti. Meats,cheeses, marinated and grilled veggies, this our go to at all Italian restaurants and this one was on point and enormous but we took the whole thing down. Next we orders a half portion Cesar and it was the perfect amount for 2 people. We both loved it but my wife thought it was slightly over dressed, she watches to much hells kitchen and said Gordon would have screamed at the chef...she's slightly delusional but I still love her, it was really good, made with good ingredients. We then ordered the calamari a la familia, if you like hot cherry peppers and ferried calamari this will be your jam. Basically fried calamari is sautéed in a hot marinara with hot peppers and is pretty epic. We love hot food and every other bite or so would remove a chunk of pepper to keep my mouth from burning over, but the flavor was great. We also did the rigatoni a la familia. My kind of dish. Rigatoni, broccoli rabe, sausage, lots of garlic and a buttery lemon type sauce. Best pasta I've had in a long time. Wife thought the pasta was to hard but she always does, everywhere, she thinks your supposed to boil pasta for an hour(still love her). House made cheesecake was amazing, perfectly moist and lemony without being a creamy mess. We also did a pistachio tartuffo and it was the best I've ever had, never had with pistachio before, usually just choc and vanilla. We. My husband and I were up from Florida visiting family. We wanted to give him a real New York experience so my brother chose La Famiglia for our big family dinner on Saturday night. We were a big group, 7 adults and a 2 1/2 year old. The waiter was on point. Warm, friendly and kept on top of our needs. Our food was served family style, not my favorite but my brother thought it was best because of the size of the group. So we just went with it. The food was amazing. Some of the best Italian food I've had in a very long time. My husband said the cannoli was the best he had ever had. If I had one complaint, it's that is was very loud. Since we will be going back to New York a few times a year, if my brother wants to go back, I will not say no. This place was that good. read more

How is this place still in business? Ive been here once and will never return. Food was average to below average. Drinks at the bar were overpriced and not even filled all the way. The sauce on the chicken parm was very acidic and sent me to the bathroom. While there, I saw a cook walk out without washing his hands. Then as I'm leaving, my wife nearly got hit by a speeding silver Jaguar pulling into the parking lot. As good as it gets. Crispy hot calamari in huge portions with a spicy marinara. Italian eggrolls (!) Not sure what was in them, spinach ricotta and more...delicious. Caesar salad was on point and the service was charming and attentive. For entrees we shared, shrimp oreganata (huge and too many to count on the dish), Salmon, and my new favorite dish, veal rosario. SO I had my daughter's baptism here in 2013. We paid a lot of money and paid cash. I was expecting the overflow of food that I was promised by Sal the manager. I was disappointed. I mean, food was great but looked very sparse on the tables. It was supposed to be family style. I was expecting the large portions I would get when I come here to eat- again which Sal promised. The plates were small and my guests had to ask for more. For the amount I paid per person? This wasn't worth it. I always loved this restaurant and this was a big disappointment. Long Island is jam packed with great Italian restaurants. And many of them are very good. This restaurant is good as well, but not competitive with the better italian restaurants in nassau. The service is always great when we go here. the waiters are attentive, hard working, kind, etc. That portion of the restaurant is never a problem. Its just the food itself is bland, and does not stand up to the rest of the great italian places in the area. However I would never say do not come here. Some people might like the bland taste! Seriously! Some people might prefer less seasoned Italian food. My uncle loves this place because he enjoys bland food! So then this place could be for you! Typical family style prices. I gave a month notice for cancelation there was no contract stating the deposit was non refundable so he refused to give me my deposit back and then stated if I wAnt I can order food from them with the deposit money otherwise he can not give me back my money because he said he was loosing money . I then had an occasion and called to order food with the deposit money which then said he never said I can get food from them and that there's nothing he can do it's either he looses money or I do and he said it's not right for him to loose money .. so he screwed me over big time I lost $300 for nothing will never go there again or recommend them read more

One of the best experiences I have had in years. The place has valet parking, so you know there is no parking issues. The establishment is very clean, with formal dining, and a bar area that you can sit at while you wait for a table. The staff is the most observant and pleasant. They removed plates right away, refilled drinks without asking, made excellent recommendations, and always came over with a smile. The food was exceptional. I really enjoyed their Chicken, Alfredo sauce, this milk cake, and this appetizer that was a potato with mozzarella in it. The dishes come served as individual portions or as family style platters. I also liked that they gradually brought the food out, and made it just a nice continuous flow. I would definitely come back and even book a party with them. read more

i was planning a party and considered la familia. i spoke to a gentlemen who gave me a price and all the details as sal was out of the office who apparently runs the party business(?). As sal called me back and i was ready to pull the trigger, we started talking because i want to verify all the things i was told. We came to a hault where i was confirming we had the entire room and he tried to add more money per person and up the price that was originally given to me. he tried to throw in an extra 300, when we were having a cash bar and the bar bill would've well exceeded $300 bucks. So, in the end he basically lost a $4k party for $300 bucks - Not a very good business move!!! Word of mouth is everything! Consider going elsewhere -they tell you one thing and then pull the trigger on another at the last second! read more

La Famiglia should be ashamed by how bad the service is. From the moment we walked in, with a party of 15, the staff was rude and inattentive, and the experience never improved. I arrived a bit early and ordered a glass of red zinfandel at the bar. I asked specifically if they had a red zin prior to ordering and the bartender unequivocally said "yes", then poured me a glass of white zin. She seemed appalled that I sent it back and ordered another glass of red wine, which she funneled back into the bottle in front of us before pouring my Cab into a soaking wet glass. Dinner service was sub-par, waiter seemed to guess when asked how many people each dish would serve (he was wrong), took forever to get refills on water, was never asked if we wanted refills on our alcoholic beverages, waiter announced meekly to a group of 15 that some of our desserts were out of stock and left without asking those who ordered them if they wanted to change their order. The food was just fine, standard mediocre family style fare... frankly the Mario's takeout next door makes a better chicken parm. The absolute piece de resistance of our night was the Valet. When we left the restaurant he was no where to be found. When we asked at the bar if they knew where the valet was we were practically ignored and brushed off as the servers and my old friend the bartender were busy eating and could not be bothered. Just got a call (24 hours) before, that the restaurant is booked for a private party so they can't honor my reservation. The manager actually had the audacity to say "I'm calling now to give you time to find something else". Is he kidding me! I attended a confirmation party at La Famiglia on Saturday and had an awesome time. We had a party of about 45 people and were in their private party room which had a separate bar and bathroom. Diana and Jose were our servers and they aimed to please!! Our food came out with great timing and the drinks were flowing!! Everything was delicious from the baked clams, to the crispy calamari, to the delicious main courses!! Will definitely be visiting again!! read more
