I stumbled upon this place on accident trying to get out of the cold in Amsterdam and I'm glad that I did! The aesthetic was homey but with a modern twist-I felt like I was in a family members home eating dinner. The service could have been better which was odd because it wasn't really busy. This was my first time trying true Italian pasta outside of the States and now I can't look back. I would for sure recommend this place for a chill and familiar vibe for a drink or a bite to eat.

We did notice a slight price increase based on the way they've changed up the tasting menu offerings since our last visit, but we still had a special occasion meal with a €55 bottle of wine for €180 total for 2 people. To me, that is very affordable for such a nice meal. What we really love is that the menu is changed drastically each time we visit, so we get to try different items and have a new experience each time. The tasting menu options are very affordable as tasting menus go! Our favorites this time were the mussels as well as the tomatoes with dijon ice cream (yes!). For me, the beef cheek was not so nice. But that's what is great about the tasting menu... there are enough samplings to leave full, even if you skip one or two items or leave a bit of food behind (not that my hubby didn't finish everything I did not!). We are leaving the Netherlands this month back to NYC, and this is one of the restaurants we will miss the most! We know we can get a meal of this caliber, but not at this price, in New York!

The ambiance is really cozy and nice and eclectic, definitely not overdone like some Mexican places and they have a great selection of tapas, even for me as a vegetarian! Plus, the cat that lives behind the restaurant drops by every once in a while to keep you company when the restaurant is still quiet early in the evening; adorable! I love it when restaurants here in Utrecht have "house cats". Love the seasonal selections, for me in the summer it's Empanada de Espinacas (Filo stuffed with spinach, pine nuts, soft cheese and raisins) and in winter it's the Tumbet (Spanish egg, potato and vegetable casserole) both are super delish! However, the two dishes I can't live without are the Patatas Bravas with the lovely spicy dip and the Pan (bread with red butter, aïoli and olive tapenade) the red butter is especially amazing. The BF always loves the Champiñones Rellenos (stuffed mushrooms), Costillas (Lamb chops with aïoli) and Pollo El Mundo (marinated chicken legs) and orders at least one of these three every single time and of course also the Pan, everyone loves that! The desserts are all great, try the Banoffi or the Tarta de chocolate y nueces, big recommendation on those two! Now, with my love for the ambiance and food you're probably wondering, why not five stars? Well, that's the staffs fault. The olive tapenade can be a bit inconsistent in taste, the Pincho de Pollo is the tiniest portion of Chicken skewers in the world and the servers tend to have a bit of an "we're better than you and would rather talk to each other" attitude about them, they don't really act on it and stay polite, but a few smiles coming towards the customers instead of each other would be greatly appreciated! Overall a great restaurant and I wish they would deliver to my house!

Our group had the Pad Krapow, Truffled croissant and the Steak Sandwich. Pad Krapow was a 3/5. Not that it wasnt good, but it was also not phenomenal. It was filling and the spice level was great, a bit of crunch could really elevate the dish. It felt more like a comfort foot than a food you'd get at this place. The Steak Sandwich was good. One of the people that ordered it noted that they didn't ask him how done he'd like his steak. It was also a small portion and the steak was not warm enough. The bread was too thick for the proportions and those that got it couldn't agree if it should have been crispier or softer, but both agreed it could be improved. Our group of four easily found a table outside on a gorgeous summer evening. We ordered tapas and drinks right away, and some tapas came out even before our drinks! I am vegan, so I was more limited in my choices though there were many hot and cold vegetable dishes to choose. Others in our party got shrimp, which came out piping hot in butter, and lamb, as well as many other choices. Not the best tapas I have had, but the price was right and the location was also just right as we stayed nearby. Drinks were delicious too. I was nervous the bill would get too high as often happens with tapas, but in the end for many dishes and two drinks each, after splitting the bill we each paid 28 euro. So expensive but not awful. Also, they do take credit cards, so great for travelers.

At first we sat outside, but it was a slow time and we started to notice that people were starting inside and then making their way to an outside table. It's just a little confusing at first since many places you just find a seat and a server finds you. Whether inside or outside, there seems to be plenty of seating, and there's even a club upstairs! Once we found a spot inside we were quickly welcomed and given menus, then we were asked if we would like an English menu. Obviously this was so helpful! Between Spanish and Dutch we were a little lost. This is not cheap tapas, so don't kid yourself into thinking that. But we made it out of there with three plates, plus gratis bread, tap water, and one cappuccino for under 30 Euros. The fried cheese is just a guilty pleasure, but at least it's one that tastes better than mozzarella sticks in the U.S. and these are little cubes, so you feel like you are getting more too. The steak on bread with picco de gallo was a little spicy for me, but at least it had a bold flavor. Sean's octopus was nice and tender, and was not chewy at all. The woman who was working was quiet pleasant and the man serving us was very nice as well. The inside just had a nice feel to it. I'm pretty sure it's a locals joint, but there is a cool looking hotel across the street...which is probably why they even have an English menu. Go here for good tapas. Three plates was plenty for two hungry people, so don't order too much at once!
