Our first visit to La Couscoussière d'Ali Bab was an interesting experience, mainly due to the unique ambiance. From the decor to the lighting, it truly felt like we were transported to Morocco. The cave-like setting was breathtaking, and I loved the overall aesthetic--it was the perfect atmosphere for a Moroccan dining experience.
However, the customer service was a letdown. Despite paying a tip, the service was lacking. We had to pour our own water, and the staff only came to clear our plates or bring out the next course. It left us feeling as though we were neglected during the meal.
As for the food, it was mediocre at best. We opted for the five-course menu, which included soup, salad, main course (with a choice of protein and either couscous or tajine), and dessert (baklava with Moroccan tea). At $39.95 plus tax, I was hoping for more. The protein portions were quite large, but the lamb and chicken lacked flavor, though the merguez sausage was more flavorful. The couscous was sparse, and I was disappointed by the small size of the baklava (just one per person) and the small serving of tea. On a positive note, the soup was delicious, and the salad was decent, while the tea was absolutely amazing.
The belly dancing show, which took place from 9:30 to 10, was also underwhelming. It wasn't really belly dancing but more of a general dance performance, and I've seen much better belly dancing at other lounges.
I discovered this place through TikTok and it was a bucket-list experience for the setting and ambiance alone. However, due to the lackluster food and service, I don't think I'll return. Still, I'm glad I had the chance to experience it. read more
