Let me…read morepreface this experience by saying that I have never had a good experience in my entire life with general doctors, especially at Kaiser, except for when I was living in Santa Barbara. So I found Dr. Annapoora on the Anthem website. She was close to where I lived, so it was convenient. I called and made an appointment. Easy so far. On the day of my appointment, I went in and ended up waiting for about 20 minutes. Not bad for a doctor's office. Then I got into a room and waited another 20 minutes. Again, expected. She finally came in. She wasn't very warm to start with, and her bedside manner just got worse as the appointment went on. I told her that I hadn't been to a general doctor in probably 10 years because I rarely get sick. Also, I told her about my cold and the reason for my visit, my crazy cough and the fact that I felt like someone was punching me in the ribs every time I coughed. Since it was my first visit with her, she said that we should run tests for all of the normal things, cholesterol, blood pressure, etc. I asked if this was included into my free initial health exam. She said yes. So she goes on checking things on her paper and she says I should go to two labs in the same building and that they'll take care of me there. Then she leaves the room. I'm bewildered at this point because she didn't address the reason for my visit. I go out my door and I can't find her anywhere. Alas, again, a terrible experience with a general doctor. Also, the entire time, she never looked directly at me, nor did she feel where I was having pain or anything. No antibiotics or anything else for my month long cold. So basically after all this, I receive a bill for $800 for lab fees for tests that she told me were part of my free health check-up. Also, I receive a second bill for $150 because she is some kind of special office that charges a fee to see her. I called UCLA Medical Center about this and they said that when I made an appointment, they were required to tell me about this additional fee. Luckily, I was able to contest the $150. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do anything about the $800. The doctor wouldn't return any of my calls, and her receptionist said that this was a bill from the labs that was separate from them and that I would need to deal with them. So again, I've been disappointed and scammed by the medical industry. It's crazy to me that people care this much more about money than doing the job that they took an oath for. No wonder out healthcare system is messed up. When are doctors going to start helping people the way they're supposed to?

Dr. Chirra is incredibly competent, serious, attentive to details in a comprehensive way. She always follows up on every lab result, she communicates adult-to-adult without any patronizing, and her judgement is top-notch. The reviewer from 2011 presented an impossible scenario to a primary care doctor: a highly skilled doc at a teaching university cannot -- in a single brief visit -- make up for ten years of health maintenance self-neglect on the part of the patient who wants to pop in and out rather than establish an ongoing health care relationship. And, yes, labs do bill separately, as do radiology groups. This reviewer might prefer an "all in one" HMO health insurance such as Kaiser Permanente, with all care centralized into one system. Or stick to commercial urgent care clinics that readily dispense antibiotics whether we need them or not.

She is the best, smartest most caring doctor ever…read more I have Hashimoto hypothyroidism and was "treated" by a doctor in San Diego for a year, who was supposed to be the best, but I could barely get out of bed, was in constant pain, gaining weight like crazy, loosing my hair, bad skin, brain fog etc = miserable! That doctor would spend 10 minutes at a time with me and didn't care about my quality of life, he actually told me right before Christmas that, this would be my life the rest of my days and nothing could be done for me. After crying for a few days, I started looking for a new doctor near and far and found dr. Mathur at Cedar Sinai (my old neighborhood in LA). She was so sweet and spent a lot of time with me, took new blood tests, adjusted medicine and asked lots of questions, a total 180 from my prior doctor, she gave me hope. My husband and I had also been trying to get pregnant for 3 years and had done IVF and was told the chances were slim and that I would never be able to conceive on my own. 1 month after seeing dr. Mathur the 1st time, I felt better, easier getting out of bed and I got pregnant! I unfortunately miscarried, but got pregnant again a year later and now have a beautiful 2 year old boy. I have enough energy to take care of him, I have lost the weight, my hair is back and an able to function. I credit all of that to dr. Mathur, she gave me my life back - and my biggest dream a baby. She is super responsive, when my father was dying in Europe and I needed a medicine refill over night before flying to say goodbye, her and her staff made it happen! I received a biopsy while insured under my HMO, but my primary care physician struggled to answer questions about my results and didn't see it fit to refer me to an Endo, despite a history of thyroid cancer in my family, diabetes, PCOS, and debilitating fatigue for over a year. I switched over to a PPO to ensure I received better care in the future, and then this office told me I couldn't have an appointment unless I have a referral, regardless of insurance coverage. So frustrating. Also, person on phone is less than friendly. If this woman were speaking to my patients, I would off board her. Unfortunate that red tape is creating barriers for getting good healthcare. I just want to see a doctor who cares. I'm a mom and a professional, I don't have time to waste finding a new primary to hopefully get a referral.
