La Cocina is one of the restaurants at the Grand Hyatt in Playa del Carmen. Indoor and Outdoor seating. The hostess gave us sanitizer on our palms each time we arrived. As part of Grand Club benefits, free breakfast buffet and dinner drinks and food were served in La Cocina. I was told Grand Club members usually go somewhere else but due to renovations-- it was in a dedicated area of La Cocina during certain hours. There were always some type of vegan option but not much.. and actually I'm not quite sure if the food and service that Grand Club members received is separate or can be reviewed for La Cocina but that's where it was and the place was always clean and service was very good. Memorable and consistent excellent service was provided by Miriam and Christian. I'd rate lower for the lack of vegan options but the service-- keeps it at 5 stars.

Well if you want an over priced breakfast this is the place to go. The buffet was $30/ person usd. We ordered off the regular menu and everything was very good 3 people it was a bit pricy for breakfast at $60 . I guess you can expect the higher prices in the Hyatt. but for breakfast it's rediculous in my eyes. The views are amazing from this place

This place is the bomb for breakfast buffet. We came here almost every morning for this amazing endless spread of pastries, salty lunch fare, perfect omelet station, and desserts/fruits, wit combination of European/American flavors and traditional Mexican dishes. We are super lucky to stay at the grand Hyatt with such amazing breakfast every day. The things to have/try, depending on availability of those things on that day - pozole (soup with pork and grain). Love this soup. Had this when I was in New Mexico and it's excellent here - Mexican coffee (a bit sweet but worth trying). Skip the churro. - the sausage and honey ham table always have good meats there. If they have grilled sweet peppers next to them, take them. - red prickly pear (fresh fruit section) - red prickly pear jam (next to the coffee and Oatmeal section) Other things are great - these are just the ones that are Mexican specialties or especially delicious. Sit outside and enjoy the breakfast. Come here earlier if you can (before 10am so you could have some calm times at the restaurant before the crowd arrives. Also the staff is exceptional. The chef is awesome. When I was disappointed that they didn't have Pozole that day, he brought out another soup for me. The danger of this place is that my eyes are bigger than my stomach - have to eat breakfast elsewhere 1-2 times just to not blow up completely during my holiday. The juices here are a bit too sweet for my taste. Get a Chaya/pineapple smoothie from the smoothie shop close to the lobby instead.

We came here for a fancy dinner on our last night at playa del Carmen. Hyatt never disappoints. Thought it was definitely on the pricier side, the food was fantastic and the service was top notch. The cuisine is more like Mexican inspired than Mexican, but I was really impressed with the twists the chef made on different dishes. I really enjoyed the whole dining experience along with live music performance. The view was spectacular next to the ocean. This definitely has more exclusive feeling since the property was designed as the resort for many who wants to have all at one place.

Came here as wanted Place with good food but also tv at the bar so could watch NCAA basketball. Got added benefit of view of the ocean. Food was great as changed menu item to make it not diabla i.e. Spicy. Ribs were meaty and international mix of German slaw with spicier Mexican sauce. Service was great as Alejandro spoke French perfectly having lived in Montreal. Pricier than many places in Area but worth it. If not staying here they will validate the valet parking.

I am always skeptical about the restaurants in hotels with ocean view but this one bit my expectations by far. We had various tacos here and they were all really good. Service was outstanding and the view is just remarkable. Super delicious, clean and relaxing place.

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt, and ate at this restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Their 'Luna Azul' specialty drink is sweet, bubbly with a hint of lime, definitely worth a try! The dishes we ordered 'salmon tacos' and 'fish salad' are tasty and tangy. The waiters are attentive. Oceanfront view is very romantic.

Fish Tacos. So good!

The first time it was just for some drinks and then we ate here on New Years Eve. Our bartender was Frank and our server was Esencia Vital. Both were friendly and helpful. We ordered 4 things and all of them were pretty good. We got the Tempura Oysters which were excellent and not greasy at all. The Tiradito Boticario was my favorite. Great texture and flavor without being overwhelmed with sauce. The Camarones Boticario were also quite good. My wife had the Ceviche Boticario and said it was on point. I drank mostly beer which was Corona and I had a glass of white wine. The wine list was limited but they really specialize in their drinks which looked fantastic. We would recommend this place to anyone.

We were very happy that is open now! I decided to start off with the "Mieles De Maria Sabina" A wonderful mix of 400 Conejos Mezcal, Ancho Reyes, cranberry juice and a "homemade punch". It was very refreshing, well balanced and came in a really cool glass! My second drink was the "Amarra Hombres Cascados". Gin, Aperol, grapefruit juice. It too hit the spot on a really hot day. Definitely a place we will hit when we need a good cocktail!

Great experience last Friday night at this Michinlin Bib restaurant. So glad I stopped by this…read moreplace is bomb and super not pretentious! Wish I got the tasting menu but I opted for 3 of the specialties instead and they were delicious... Tasting menu is best value tho! I got the raw trout sashimi thing and it was by far the best plate of the meal (first dish/appetizer) , then got the shrimp flautas (good not amazing) then I got the trout loin for the entree (good not amazing) Skinny marg was perfect and so was the waitress! Would recommend and go back but like I said I would for sure do with the 6 or 8 course tasting menu!

Okay, where do I start…read more I made a reservation about a month before our trip, they were already pretty booked so I made a 4:45pm. I somehow missed that the coursed meal doesn't start until 6...and we didn't realize until same day. They couldn't rebook us until 9PM but told us to swing by early to see if they could get us in AND THEY DID. It was a Christmas miracle. And I'm glad they did because the whole experience was about 2.5 hours from start to finish. The place isn't very big, but is beautiful inside. They have an awesome bar and and open kitchen so you can see everything. It's a really neat place. We were seated pretty quick once they got the table cleaned, and then were greeted by our waitress. When we told her we were there for the 8 course meal, they switched waiters on us, and then the upselling started. Right off the bat they tried to talk us into a cocktail...when we were doing a pairing with our meal. It took them a little time to get the meal going, and then between courses was a little hit or miss. Sometimes it was free flowing and sometimes it took 10-15 minutes to get our next dish. The food. We were a little nervous we would leave still a little hungry but I assure you, you will not. For ~$100USD each, you get so much food, and a drink with every course. It was fantastic and so worth it. Here were the courses and pairings (that I can remember lol): 1. We started with the dips - a bean dip with cheese sauce and guacamole with crickets. Very classic, very well done. The crickets added a nice, nutty flavor. I was a huge fan of the beans with their blue corn tostadas, so much flavor. They also had a third dip that was pumpkin seed based, it was good but not as memorable. Their hot sauces came out with this course. It was paired with a house mezcal (with salts, cucumber, and orange) that was incredible and smooth. 2. Shrimp ceviche which was super refreshing and flavorful. They paired this with sparkling wine. 3. Sea bass with a cream sauce and grapefruit. I'm not a huge fishy flavor person - my first bite had all three compnents and I thought it was delicious. My husband just had fish as his first bite and thought it a little fishy, but once we added everything else he agreed it was great. Three small pieces, so it was a nice course. Paired with a sauv blanc. 4. Roasted tomatoes in a mole sauce. A nice veggie course. I thought they were cooked well, nothing super fancy. Paired with a Chardonnay. 5. Cooked shrimp with potatoes. My husband called this a "filler" course - there wasn't much to it. The sauce had some greens in it but it was just something light and easy to serve. Can't remember the pairing here. 6. THE CARROTS. MY FAV THING. OMG. Literally so fresh, the perfect texture, and the sauces. I could have eated a whole bowl with this one. Paired it with a red blend. 7. Cow tongue. I forgot a photo. I was starting to get drunk, I'm sorry. Paired with a red wine. This was tender, the sauce was delicious. If you're not used to beef tongue, please don't let it scare you. It was amazing. 8. Dessert. Also amazing. I think it was paired with a sweet red but....a little drunk here...we got a cheesecake which was more on the savory side, super unique, and so delicious. I was a huge fan. We also got a passion fruit custard and I'm a SUCKER for passion fruit. This was phenomenal. The food was INCREDIBLE. And such an amazing experience. And now the loss of a star. I hit on the service a little, but there was also some upselling which we don't love, especially at what is supposed to be michelin recognized. We often try Michelin recognized when we travel and the upselling was unexpected, I undertsand the culture down here, but still. ALSO we LOVED the house mezcal so much we asked for another shot ($280 pesos/shot). When we got the bill, the waiter upcharged to one of the most expensive mezcals on their menu ($520 pesos/shot) and refused to change it. We spent $60 on two shots after paying for our 8-course meal. It honestly was SUCH a dissapointing end to our meal and felt so icky. Be very careful with the service here.

Location 5/5, Service 5/5, Food 4/5, Drinks 5/5, Clientele…read more2/5 *more on that below* This spot has one of the best beachside settings in Playa del Carmen. The entire restaurant, including the bar, is literally set in the sand, with tables right on the water just a few feet from the ocean. It's barefoot, toes in the sand dining done right, and the atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit. We did have one hiccup in the evening due to a rowdy group from a drone company that was extremely intoxicated and invasive of our space. Their belongings kept ending up on our table, and there were drunk men taking their shirts off and doing shots just a few feet away. Not sure if they didn't have enough tables or what, but we had made a reservation to celebrate a special event months in advanced, so it was a bit irritating. The servers eventually handled it and intervened multiple times, but at no point were they asked to move or relocate. Once that group settled down, the night became a much more enjoyable experience. We were a party of 12, and every single person raved about both their food and drinks. For drinks we had: Prickly Pear: Made with Orange Blossom Condesa Gin, St Germain, fresh lemon juice, rosemary syrup, mint, and strawberry. Bright and refreshing, though it came with more foam on top than expected. Coco Loco: A fresh whole coconut with Patrón Silver tequila, vodka, rum, gin, pineapple juice, and coconut cream. A true showstopper. Don't be intimidated by the mix of liquor, it is smooth, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. No hangovers were had. Espresso Martini: Simple and clean with a light foam. Well executed, but not a signature cocktail compared to the others. For food we had: We were surprised with an amuse bouche of huitlacoche, often called Mexican truffle. It's a corn fungus with a rich, earthy flavor and this small bite was outstanding and set the tone for the meal. Queso Fundido: Oaxaca cheese with chorizo and flour tortillas. Great flavor, but very thick, making it a bit messy and difficult to serve. Guacamole: Prepared with tomato, onion, cilantro, and cotija cheese. Perfectly seasoned, fresh, and especially enjoyable paired with the queso fundido. Brisket: Served in chileatole sauce with huitlacoche truffle, carrots, and cotija cheese. Comforting, rich, and deeply flavorful. Robalo Guayaba: Guava sea bass served in guava sauce with chiltepín chili. Beautifully cooked with just a little too much sweetness and citrus. It would have benefited from a little bit of heat, or a vegetable or side to pair it with, as it is not served with anything other than a cooked slices of lemon. Creme Brulee Mexicano: A rice pudding infused crème brûlée with caramel and vanilla ice cream. A thoughtful twist on the classic, with the rice pudding adding depth and warmth to the dessert. Knocked down to 4 stars due to the rowdiness of some surrounding guests. We were seated on the sand and needed to walk through the entirety of the restaurant, but people without tables or reservations were standing in the middle of walkways and sitting on the steps down to the beach, many too intoxicated to stand up. I'm hopeful this is not the usual clientele, and I would return for the quality of the food, drinks, and the gorgeous setting.
